Remove front cover from the reel, thread line through the front cover and tie line to the spool. Replace front cover of the reel and start reeling on new line. The correct amount of line should fill the spool of the reel within 1/8” of the top lip of the spool.

However overfilling a reel is just as bad as not putting enough line on the reel. The lighter your chosen line class, the more chance you will get bites and ultimately, more fish! Lighter line will be thinner in diameter compared to a heavier line.
Sidecast reels don`t suffer from the same issues as threadline reels. The restricting factor on a sidecast reel is the spool diameter. During the cast, loops coming off a large diameter sidecast reel not only have to fit through the first runner, but also slap the rod slowing down the line speed.
The most common reel on the market has a 6.4:1 gear ratio. This will allow you to work both fast moving presentations as well as slow. However, for certain techniques and applications, a very high or low gear ratio will often work best. For instance, burning a spinnerbait or buzzbait is best done with a 7.1:1 reel.
Green. Green is a good color for blending into the water. The majority of water we anglers fish have some sort of green tint to it. Like camouflage, the green line blends into its surroundings and makes a good choice for anglers looking to keep their line invisible to fish.
As with any sports memorabilia, in some cases antique fishing reels can be worth a few thousand dollars. On average, most of these collectibles are worth between $300-$500.
Spinning Reels
The spinning reel takes time a bit of time to master. It`s easy to get line tangled, it`s more difficult to cast since it involves lifting the bale, holding down a loop of line with your index finger, then whipping the attached rod forward.
The earliest known graphical depiction of a fishing reel, according to Joseph Needham, comes from a Southern Song (1127–1279) painting done in 1195 by Ma Yuan (c. 1160–1225) called “Angler on a Wintry Lake”.
Many anglers look for a one-size-fits-all reel to be used for multiple species. For most freshwater fishing applications, a 2500-size reel with a gear ratio of 5:5:1 will be a great choice. Anglers who are looking to put together a technique-specific setup will have some additional factors to consider.

If the bottom portion of the metal disk inside is “curvy”the line is wound by the curves.Its kinda hard to explain.Try twisting the metal “disk and pressing down lightly while turning the handle,this should put the take up parts in the right alignment.That being said,I would go spend 15 bucks at wal-mart or similar store and buy a real reel.I am a semi-professional fisherman and I dont use real expensive gear,but zebco is probably the worst equipment available.I use Okuma or Diawa…they have some low end models that are very inexpensive and work just fine.

If you are trying to get something for nothing…Don’t waste my time! Remember if something sounds to good to be true that it usually is. Mercury 4 hp outboard engine wont go into gear
ANSWER : The lower gears arent hard to change, if your in there might as well get all of them there are only a few. the lshift lever does nothing but move the gears forward and back to engage forward and reverse, just pay extra attention to keep it water tight when done. A dealer should have the assembly chart for easy fix
