I recently bought a yamaha blaster and the wireing was all messed up so i bought an new harness and got it to run but it would not rev up at all so i put my buddys carb on and it ran decent but i rode 3 or 400 feet and it died well now it is not starting at all and it is back firing like crazy and loud what could it be the moter made a sound when it quit running thank you

Well i have had the same problem and it was a gear on the right side of the motor. the clip came off and the motor died. i did get it started to get it home but it backfired really bad the entire time. put the gear back on and has ran like a raped ape ever since. hope this helps.

The spark inside the chamber may not burn up all the fuel, allowing a little extra gasoline vapor to enter the exhaust, and lead to a backfire. This can be caused by a faulty mass airflow sensor or a clogged engine air filter “choking” the engine and not allowing enough oxygen to flow into it.
It could be the spark timing is off. The plug may be sparking too early or too late. If this is the case, the backfiring is caused when residual fuel is ignited at the wrong time. A simple two stroke uses a magneto or a curved iron bar in the flywheel that spins by a copper coil to generate the spark.
A weak fuel pump or insufficient fuel pressure are two reasons that prevent the combustion chamber from receiving fuel in the required amount, and as a result, your ATV backfiring. Letting the fuel sit in the fuel tank for a long period makes it thick and capable of clogging the jets of the carburetor.
Why do ATV`s Backfire? ATVs usually backfire because of a short, sudden moment where the engine is running too rich or too lean. That means that it`s either getting more fuel than it needs for the amount of air it takes in, or else not enough.
If too much fuel is added to the engine, it may not all burn up before the exhaust valves open — letting unburned gasoline into the red-hot exhaust headers, where it can combust and lead to a backfire. Too much fuel could be getting into your engine due to damaged and leaking fuel injectors or bad engine sensors.
Backfires and afterfires are worth paying attention to since they can cause engine damage, power loss, and decreased fuel efficiency.
This is a result of working equipment, and is unlikely to cause damage. A fuel-injected engine may backfire if an intake leak is present (causing the engine to run lean), or a fuel injection component such as an air-flow sensor is defective.
A rich fuel mixture can be caused by a malfunctioning oxygen sensor, mass air flow sensor, engine air Intake sensor, coolant temperature sensor, throttle position sensor, faulty fuel or ignition system, and any of these can cause the car to backfire.
On the other end of the spectrum, a bad fuel pump, vacuum leak, or clogged fuel injectors could cause an air-fuel ratio that`s too lean; that is, it has too much air and not enough fuel. Though this is the opposite problem, it can also cause a backfire as vapor escapes into the exhaust and combusts there.
To recap, decel pops are common and nothing to worry about, but unless you`re riding a bike that`s been modified and professionally tuned, backfires are a sign that all is not well with your bike`s setup.
If your ATV is backfiring, you should check a few of the common reasons: The fuel to air mixture is too lean or rich. There is an issue with the carburetor. The ignition could be faulty.
Another possible cause of your backfire is a spark plug refusing to “spark” when the exhaust valve opens. If the air/fuel mixture has become too rich, unburned fuel is left in the exhaust system. The misfired spark plug ignites the rich air/fuel mixture, causing a loud “bang” in the tail pipe.
This happens as a result of a dirty carburetor. The best way to deal with this is to clean your carburetor to prevent further popping sounds. Too Little Fuel: The opposite of having too much fuel can still result in the same problem.
Backfiring in internal combustion engines occurs outside of the combustion chamber, and is typically the result of an improper air to fuel ratio. An overly lean air-fuel mixture (i.e. an overabundance of air) can lead to a failure to ignite in the combustion chamber, also called a “misfire”.
If your engine is getting more fuel than it needs, a rich fuel to air ratio is the result. When your car has leftover fuel in the exhaust and the cylinders, that fuel explosively burns and creates a loud popping sound.
Neither is ideal, but in the long run, running lean is generally worse because it can do more damage. Running lean will cause the engine to run hotter. A rich condition means that the fuel/air mixture has too much gas. If the fuel mixture is too rich, you may experience: Dull and intermittent engine noise.
When we start our car, a series of reactions take place. The efficiency of these reactions dictates how “rich” your car runs; if your vehicle runs rich, it means there`s an issue in your engine. A car that runs rich causes a few problems: higher fuel costs, a poorer driving experience, and a worse environmental impact.
A rich fuel mixture can damage crucial engine parts. The excess carbon from the fuel can clog the honeycombs inside the catalytic converter and you`ll smell the sulfur odor discussed above. It will also deposit black soot on the spark plugs and deposit excess carbon in the combustion chamber.
Many race cars and high performance cars backfire either as a side effect of certain tunes or intentionally for specific benefits, e.g. turbo anti-lag systems and rev control systems. And like many car enthusiast things, its sounds cool, so people want it on their street car, because race car.
Motorcycle backfire is something that happens when a motorcycle engine gets too much fuel or air. Bikes comes setup so that the carburetor (or fuel injection system on modern bikes) provides the correct ratio of fuel and air, to allow the bike to run at its best.
The problem with the Holley power valve is that it is the most sensitive circuit in the carburetor. The little rubber diaphragm has a tendency to tear or just plain fail at usually the most inopportune times. It is especially vulnerable to engine backfires.

Touching back on air to fuel ratios, a vacuum leak will likely make your engine run “lean” (too much air.) This means the engine cannot efficiently ignite fuel in the combustion chamber. When fuel builds up in the cylinders and combustion occurs, it will expel a backfire.

The injectors shoot a perfect mixture of fuel and air into the combustion chamber, but if there is too much fuel, the mixture becomes too rich. When this happens, not all of the fuel is burned by the spark, which may combust in the exhaust instead of the combustion chamber, causing an engine backfire.

ANSWER : No fuel or no spark. Quick test: spray some starter fluid into air intake and try to start it. If it runs and then dies, you’ve got spark but no fuel. If the bike quit with no prior symptoms, check spark plug wire not knocked loose, fuel filter clogged. (You do have gas, right?)

Smoking outboard 1998 mercury 6 hp 2 stroke. Fuel/oil mix is 100 to 1, the engine smokes bad in all throttle ranges. Is the fuel mix wrong or are the rings bad ? thanks

1995 Yamaha Wave Raider 700 Deluxe shuts down during operation at 30 miles per hour as if yoy had removed the lanyard, also noticed display goes out it will turn over all day long but won” restart unless I remove the lanyard and re insert it then it will fire right up. Bad lanyard switch?
ANSWER : Forelectrical, start with the CDI kill signal. Find the Black/Yellow wire in theelectrical box that goes directly from the CDI module to the terminal board.Unplug that wire. Now the lanyard and Stop switch will NOT stop the engine. Theonly way to stop the engine is to apply full choke and starve the engine forair.Now start the engine and see if it runs properly.
If youneed to run longer, either remove the jet pump and drive shaft, or take it tothe launch ramp and test it while backed down into the water, still strapped tothe trailer.IF the engine runs properly with Black/Yellow unplugged, next test is to bypassthe LR-505 Start/Stop module. Reconnect Black/Yellow, and refer to my signaturelinks for details on bypassing the LR-505 module.
Also checkfor pistons, cylinders or engine cooling if they are working.

I just purchased this Yamaha boat w/Twin MR-1 140hp motors, less than 100hrs (60 prox)and the starboard motor only reached 8000rpm on a 10000 redline spec (the port motor reaches 10000rpm. I have replaced the spark plugs immediatly and now the motor reaches 9500rpm. When the plugs were replaced the plug wire top of the plugs had a black powder residue (like graphite)and #1 & 4 plug electrode end were black minimal soot and #2 & #3 had a white color residue on the ceramic.

Any suggestions to attain the full 10000rpm?

A Yamaha dealer is 100 miles, so I would like to fix myself if possible. Thanks

My 2002 yamaha blaster will not start. ive tried cleaning spark plug, made sure gas is getting to carbarator but still it wont start. any idea why?
ANSWER : Check that you are actually getting spark to the plug first. If you’re getting spark, check your timing. I would say these would be the easiest 2 areas to start with. If both of these are good, it could be anything in your wiring, or your CDI box. Good luck!
