Technically, most electric golf cart battery banks use series wiring. The 36-volts club car golf cart wiring requires a set of six batteries of 6 volts capacity each. You will also need five equal size connection cables.
They usually come in 6, 8, and 12-volt configurations that can be wired in series to provide the required voltage.
Step 1: Find Serial Number Tag

Like other golf carts, Cushman golf carts have a tag on their body that helps to find their age. You will find the serial number tag underneath the driver side on the shift lever console. The plate should be made of light metal material.

Remember that you only need the positive and negative leads within the wire, which are usually labeled black and white. The positive (black) wire fits snugly and conveniently inside the small hole in the bottom of your cartridge, and the red wire rests lightly on the outside metal threading.
Determining how many volts your golf cart uses is as easy as counting the water fill caps on all of your batteries. If you have six 6 volt batteries your golf cart is a 36 volt cart, if you have six 8 volt batteries or four 12 volt batteries your golf cart is a 48 volt cart.
Healthy batteries will indicate about 50 to 52 volts on the voltmeter. Most battery packs hold around 48 volts. Keep in mind that the high number doesn`t mean that the batteries are instantly good. This measured value doesn`t take the load or cart`s power consumption into consideration.
When scheduling service or ordering parts for your golf cart it is very important to know and locate the serial number (VIN). Each cart has its own unique serial number just like a car and by knowing what this number is you are able to determine what type, year, and power supply your cart has.
Regular golf carts do not have VIN numbers but have serial numbers instead. VIN numbers are not required for golf carts because they are not manufactured for street-legal use.
The serial number is a 6 or 7 digit number that does NOT indicate the model year. For these years the id sticker can be found behind the seat, under the black plastic access panel, on the cross member of the frame.
There are four terminals on a solenoid: usually two large and two small. The small terminals are connected to the battery, and the large terminals are connected to the motor. Disconnect all wires from the two large terminals. Be sure to keep the wires together, but not touching, for easy replacement.
The Blue wire on the bucket harness will hook to the 12 Volt output and the Black wire from the bucket harness will attach to the 12 volt ground (negative).
The black wire, which is hot and carries the electricity, goes to the golden brass screw. The white wire is neutral and hooks around the silver screw. The green wire goes to the ground screw.
The colours of your wires will depend on how old the wiring is: Brown (or Red if you have old wiring) – indicated by `L` on your socket (Live) Blue (or Black if you have old wiring) – indicated by `N` on your socket (Neutral) Yellow & Green striped – indicated by `E` or three vertical lines on your socket (Earth)
The answer is generally a resounding yes. By using four 12-volt batteries in series combination, you can easily gain the 48-volt power needed to successfully power a golf cart.

Controllers tend to have sensitive components like capacitors that will break very quickly when exposed to a higher voltage than they`re designed for. Plugging a 48v battery into your 36v controller and turning on your bike has a very high chance of blowing your capacitors and breaking your controller.
The peak charging voltage for Gel batteries is 2.3 to 2.36 volts per cell, and for a 48 volt charger this works out to 55.2 to 56.6 volts, which is lower than a wet or AGM type battery needs for a full charge.
48V LiFePO4 batteries are fully charged at 58.4 volts and fully discharged at 40 volts. They are made by connecting 16 3.2V LiFePO4 cells in series.
If you have a 48-volt cart, you will need either eight six-volt batteries, six eight-volt batteries, or four 12 volt batteries. Remember that the higher the voltage battery you use, the faster it will charge. They will need twelve six-volt batteries, six twelve-volt batteries, or nine eight-volt batteries.
Golf carts use eight 6-volt batteries wired together in series to provide power. This gives the cart a total voltage of 48 volts. If you used 12-volt batteries instead, the total voltage would be 96 volts. Unfortunately, the cart`s components are not designed to handle this high voltage.
The serial number is either six or seven numbers and does not indicate the model year. The manufacturer`s number does reflect the model year. This series will have one letter and three or four numbers which will include two numbers indicating the last two digits of the year it was manufactured.
You can either find the Club Car Golf Cart serial number on the side panel on the passenger floorboard or on the driver side on the side panel. Do keep in mind that if you have your golf cart rebuilt that your serial number tag may get moved around, painted over, or taken off.
The most common VIN format is the 17-digit VIN, which became standard for all vehicles manufactured since January 1981. Vehicles manufactured prior to 1981 may have as few as 5 digits to as many as 13 digits.
A VIN is composed of 17 characters (digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for the vehicle. A VIN displays the car`s unique features, specifications and manufacturer. The VIN can be used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts and insurance coverage.

Trying to install a new fluro light, pull out old light to find 3 reds and 3 blacks 1 copper earth. What do I do to connect it up the right way??? When I pulled the old Fluro light out the 3 Reds were joined together with a connector ,two blacks were joined to one end of light wire, the other to the other end of the light wire,earth wire to the light case,the third black wire was connected to the wire from the ballast? Does this all make sense
ANSWER : No, this does not make sense but I have seen strange wiring before. There is power going from the light someplace else. Just connect it back up exactly as the old light was connected. It worked before so it will work again. If it works it is wired correctly. Without being there to check which wire was the hot wire and which was neutral it is impossible for me to say what is what. Make sure you connect the ground wire to the light chassis.

I just bought new batteries for my Club Cart Golf cart. It worked fine before I changed batteries. I drew a diagram of the wires to ensure I reconnected them correctly. Now the cart will go backwards, but not forward.
ANSWER : You have the motor hooked up in reverse, you need to switch the two wires leading to the motor in order to fix it.

I just put a new battery on my 2000 Yamaha G16A gas golf cart and now it won’t do anything. We have headlights that are straight wired to the battery and they work fine. I found a blown 10 amp car type fuse that was blown and straight wired around it and that didn’t fix the problem. I know it is a wiring problem because the back-up buzzer won’t even work. Is there another fuse that I should be looking for?
ANSWER : Yes, check the main fuse trace up the main cable so that you can see it. Then don’t forget to check the wire in main sw. or key.

Spark plug wire boot grounding out on coil, 96 outback 2.5 automatic, just put new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, and new coil on. ran great for two weeks, now spark is jumping out of boot at coil on one wire, put old coil back on and still does it in the same spot. replaced wires again, and still does it in the same spot. seems to do it only under a load. Is my new spark plug on that cylinder bad? Does the coil need some insulation under it? It is the coil that sits right on top of the motor. Any ideas? thanks.
ANSWER : Sparks are high voltage, and will always follow the path of least resistance. If you can visibly see a spark (whether in a lighted area, or in the dark), that means either that a plug wire (or coil wire) is open (non conductive), or your have a carbon track on the surface where the spark can be seen, but most likely you have BOTH problems!

If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance of each wire involved, particularly spark plug wires … which means you must be able to connect to both ends of each wire at the same, and hopefully, FLEX those wires, to be sure they don’t have a break inside that is intermittent (comes and goes)!

Need the wire diagram to rewire my Ariens lawnmover to bypass the safety switch. It is Ariens GT-19 model # 931026 Serial # 001463.
Can you help? It is an old Ariens mower but still runs good but now I need to bypass the safety switch in order to run it any longer. The local Ariens dealer said I need to go through the internet and get the wire diagram as they cannot give it to me directly. They told me I needed the wire diagram and the part involved in bypassing the safety switch. Hope this is all the information you need to help me.

ANSWER : Here is owner manual:http://apache.ariens.com/manuals/030305C.pdfusually the switch is behind the ignition, sometimes at the N position of gearshift, just look for a switch with one wire coming in & one going out (usually the same color); disconnect the two wires & jumper them together to bypass the switch. Looks like yours has one under the seat.
