Winchester model 100 semi-auto 308 cal. I need a disassembly procedure for this rifle. I don’ have a manual with any procedures in it.
When I shoot, it won’t group. Does the barrel have to be free-floating from the stock? Or how is this rifle bedded?

Any info or ideas on this rifle would be much appreciated.

“PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING AND REPLACEMENT NOTICE. Attention owners of Winchester model 100
rifles and carbines please read this notice. In July of 1990 the following product safety
warning was issued by Winchester. It has come to our attention that the firing pin in the
Winchester Model 100 Rifle or Carbine may break due to use and metal fatigue and become
lodged in the breech bolt face. If this occurs, the firearm may fire before the action is
locked causing severe damage to the firearm and possibly injury or death to the shooter
and bystander.
A new firing pin has been designed to replace the firing pin originally made for the
Winchester Model 100 Rifle and Carbine. The new firing pins will be available in April
1991. If you own a Winchester Model 100 Rifle or Carbine, please send your firearm to one
of the authorized Winchester Model 100 Firing Pin Replacement Centers indicated below.

The following is Wisner’s rendition & info on the subject.
The difference in the old firing pin and the new one is as follows. The old replaced
style, was totally lathe tuned (round). While the new recall style is similar in lathe
turning on the front and back, but in the front midsection it has two flats milled, one
on each side. This makes the center section stronger. Also replaced is the bolt sleeve
lock pin (firing pin guide) which was made to accommodate this different shaped firing
Part number for the new parts are, firing pin =1391ND, bolt sleeve locking pin =1491ND
The word was at the time this recall was in process was that if the firing pin would
break at the mid section and still remain in the gun as two pieces, the possibility of a
premature discharge before the bolt was locked was possible. This apparently was caused
by the firing pin tip (now not having a retracting spring) to be stuck forward, and
thereby slam-firing upon chambering.
The responsibility for the recall apparently was on Olin, as they were the parent company
at time of manufacture. Olin set up regional recall centers at three established US
gunshops. There was a manufacturing delay in the replacement firing pins, and a backlog
occurred, also some collectors did not like the idea of shipping their guns long
distances. Olin then also authorized other gunshops to make the required alterations.
Upon completion of the recall, the shops were to test fire the firearm and to stamp an
assigned letter on the inside top of the receiver as seen thru the magazine well with the
bolt retracted. The letter “B” represented Bolsa Gunsmithing, “L” was Lefever, and “N”
was for Nu-line Guns. The letter “X” apparently was for all the other independent shops.
However this identification information did not get communicated to some of the smaller
shops at the start of the project. The only way to tell if the gun as been modified, if
the ”letter” is not present, is to take the barrel & action out of the stock, remove the
trigger guard assembly and the try to rotate the firing pin by twisting it. If it does
NOT rotate, then the firing pin recall HAS been performed.

How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

The rifle weighs 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg).
The innovative Winchester® Wildcat™ Semi-Auto Rimfire Rifle is lightweight, reliable, and accurate, utilizing a striker-fired design for faster lock-time and lighter trigger-pull than hammer-driven firearms.
Original Problem

In its original design, the Model 88 had a trigger stop pin. If a shooter was wearing heavy gloves, the gloves could prevent him from fully closing the lever. This kept the trigger stop pin forward and prevented pulling the trigger far enough to release the hammer.

Our experience has shown that for a . 308 caliber tactical rifle with the overall rifle weight and shooting distances mentioned earlier, a barrel of 24-27″ is optimum in one of the fairly heavy contours we discussed. Closer ranges or other considerations might dictate a shorter barrel.
308 Win. is most frequently loaded with projectiles between 150 grains and 180 grains and boasts muzzle velocities between 2,800 feet per second and 2,500 fps, depending on bullet weight and barrel length.
The 308 Winchester is a rifle caliber that is rimless, bottlenecked and is the commercial cartridge that the 7.62x51mm NATO was inspired and derived from. It was first introduced in 1952, two years before the adoption of the 7.62x51mm NATO and was marketed towards hunters as the ultimate hunting caliber.
They are then manufactured in our partner factory in Istanbul, Turkey. Istanbul is a key manufacturing and trade center for Europe. Some SXP parts may be sourced from our other Winchester group factories in Western Europe.
Semi-automatic refers to a firearm which uses the force of recoil or gas to eject the empty case and load a fresh cartridge into the firing chamber for the next shot and which allows repeat shots solely through the action of pulling the trigger.
The longevity and special features is one big reason Winchester firearms have high valuation above other manufacturers to this day. Lot 1025: Exceptional Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine.
The . 50-110 WCF (also known as the . 50-100-450 WCF , with different loadings) in modern 1886 Winchesters with modern steel barrels is the most powerful lever-action cartridge, with up to 4,000 foot-pounds (5,400 J) of energy.
308 Win. is most commonly barreled with a 1:12 twist. This is probably because use of long, heavy bullets was not envisioned in shorter actions. However, in . 30 caliber, even a 1:12 twist is versatile and can usually stabilize 190-grain match bullets and 200-grain hunting bullets.
What Is the Right Twist Rate for a 308 Rifle? The ideal rate of twist for a 308 rifle would give the bullet a gyroscopic stability factor of 1.3 at minimum, although 1.5 is preferable if you are firing over longer ranges.
308 Winchester cartridge case and the 7.62 NATO (7.62 x 51 mm) are the same thing. In fact, the 7.62 was developed using the general design of the . 308 as its `parent` case.
For the vast majority of hunters under field conditions, the maximum effective range of the . 308 Winchester is around 300 yards, and 400 would be pushing it. At these ranges, the terminal ballistic performance of a well-designed hunting bullet fired from the . 308 is usually very good.
308 Winchester and 7.62×51 cartridge cases are essentially identical, and with very rare exceptions, the two rounds are physically interchangeable.
Compared with rifles and carbines chambered in the . 223 Remington/5.56mm cartridge, the primary advantages of the . 308/7.62mm round are increased effective range, kinetic energy, and barrier penetration. The heavier bullet is also less susceptible to wind drift.
The . 308 Winchester is the most popular sniper/counter-sniper round by far. It far outweighs any other caliber when it comes to standard-issue rifles.
308 Win is considered by many serious hunters to be ideal for medium to heavy size game animals. It`s reputation as a capable medium to long-range cartridge has been stretched beyond 500 yards by many long-range hunters that have full confidence in the cartridge.
The Xtreme Chaos 160 grain . 308 is simply the deadliest hunting bullet I`ve ever used. The nose separates into 4 petals and the slightly mushroomed base weighing 120 grain continues on for deep penetration.
The 308 Winchester has a shorter case length 2.015” while the 30-06 Springfield has a longer case length at 2.494”. The overall length of each cartridge is also quite different, 2.8” vs 3.34” for the 308 and Winchester 30-06 ammo respectively.
Better options exist and, the longer the shot, the wider the performance gap between the 6.5/6mm cartridges and the . 308. Clearly, the . 308 is dead among long-range competitive shooters, as they are not bound by nostalgia or logistics.
The 308 Winchester dwarfs the 7.62×39 in cartridge dimensions, which means that the 308 Win is going to be firing heavier bullets at higher pressure, muzzle velocity, and muzzle energy. All of this adds up to more felt recoil.
