Canvas tents do not need external water proofing as the material they are made of is sufficient to deal with extreme moisture-prone weather conditions. That being said, a brand-new canvas tent is likely to leak near the seams as they go through weathering process.
Canvas tents are beautiful, comfortable, and durable even in tough weather conditions. However, without proper treatment, canvas material is not 100% waterproof — many find this out the hard way once the water has already damaged their tent, which can be a costly and unpleasant discovery.
Canvas can take around two days to dry out when it`s very wet.
Though many campers will orient a tent with the smaller side facing the wind for reduced resistance, it`s more important to place the side that has the strongest pole structure facing the wind. If you`re camping in a hot climate, orient a door toward the wind for cooling.
Canvas Tents normally last 15-30 years depending upon on how well it is taken care of and how much the tent is used.. The main reasons canvas tents are ruined: Putting the canvas tent away wet. Regardless of the water & mildew treatment on tents the canvas will get rot and mold if put away wet.
Canvas tents are made of tightly weaved heavier fabric which is either Canvas Cotton or a blend of synthetic material. The heat from the inside can`t escape the material easily, which makes canvas tents a preferable option for chilly weather conditions.
Even though canvas is naturally breathable material, your tent could get stuffy, hot, or muggy if it is not designed with added ventilation features to help air circulate during hot summer days and nights.
Did you know that mould can occur on canvas surfaces and thrives when that canvas is packed up and shoved in a dark corner? Even though it might be the last thing you want to do, it`s best to clean your tent when you arrive home from your holiday and let it dry completely before packing it away.
What Causes a Tent to Lose its Waterproofness? Tents, outerwear, and other waterproof fabrics are worn down over time by dirt and oil particles that get ground into the fabric and by the sun, which fades and erodes its surface.
If a tent is packed away wet, then mould will develop on the taped seams, and fabric. This degrades the fabric to the point it is no longer repairable. The tent will begin to smell very strongly, and we pitch them indoors, making it quite difficult to pitch.

Canvas allows you to download content while you have a WiFi connection so that you can see it offline if you do not have internet at home. To do this log in to your Canvas account and click on Account, then Settings. On the right side you will see a button called Download Course Content.
You can enter a what-if score for something that has not been graded yet or for an assignment that you resubmitted. To view grades based on a what-if score, click on Grades in the left navigation menu in your course.
One way is to look at the surface of the canvas. If it`s been primed, the surface will be smooth and have an even color. Another way is to touch the canvas. If it feels stiff or has a slightly tacky surface, it`s been primed.
Priming is the process of creating a barrier between the canvas and the paint of a painting. Typically this is done by applying layers of acrylic gesso, clear acrylic medium, or traditional hyde glue and oil priming white.
For most tents you should start at one end then progress to the other, pegging each side as you go. The level of tension should be equal all round, and tight enough to prevent flapping, without placing too much strain on the structure & material.
Even though dome tents look difficult to set up alone, they are actually one of the easiest tents to assemble by yourself! If you have a newer dome tent, it is simpler than ever to put one together. However, a lost instruction manual can mean the difference between an easy task and a much more difficult one.
To build a makeshift tent, you`ll need rope or a line of some kind to string between two trees, a tarp or poncho to hang on the rope, and something to anchor the tarp to the ground. If you don`t have any rope or string, you can use a strong branch propped between the two trees several feet above the ground.
Canvas tents are much tougher than their nylon counterparts. Once they`re secured correctly, they won`t flap around in high winds as much as lightweight tents do. Since canvas is thicker than nylon and poly fabrics, less sunshine filters through into the inside of your tent.
Canvas Tent Breathability
Unlike plastic tents, canvas allows small moisture particles from breath, sweat, and cooking to escape directly through the tent fabric. Keeping you dry and comfortable in any environment.
Ultimately, every tent has it`s limit, but a tent with thicker poles and sturdier build will hold more, and a hot tent will be able to melt off at least a moderate amount of snowfall. However, with proper preparation, equipment, and attention, you can Winter camp in a canvas tent just fine.
The musty smell is likely due to the mold and mildew trapped in the canvas fabric of the tent. Next, you`ll want to fill a bucket with warm water and gentle dish soap.

Square tent with 2 types gazebo poles, varenda, 2 side windows
ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.

I need new poles for Swiss Gear tent # SG33071F
ANSWER : Go to Home depot and buy a tube that fit the pole. Cut it into 5 or 6 inches for the broken areas. It costs me less than 2 dollars. Let me know how it turn out on yours.

I have stripped the thread in an extendable tent pole.
ANSWER : If you go to any good tool store or engineering store you can get what is known as helecoil insert.just tell them the inside diam of the pole.they will probably put it in for you if yuo take the pole along.hope this will help.regards barry.

How to stabalize four tent poles in an open area.
ANSWER : If you get four sturdy poles (not normal tent poles) then the best thing to do is to stake the four poles into the ground at a 60 degree angle with the top away from the tent and then use the tension created by the angle to support the tarp.

Im looking manual instructions for coleman Sahara tent
ANSWER : Go on youtube, you will find some excellent videos on how to….on a range of tents. I saw the coleman sahara tent on a video last year as I was considering buying one! Good luck!

Tent I bought a tent the name on the outside says South Mountain.Not sure how to put up. It has two long rods & two short ones it looks like there are two rain gaurds also. There are no instrutions that came with this tent. Are there any pics that that show how to put up. I think the tent is around five years old.
ANSWER : It has to be similar to this (see link below). Most tents assemble in similar ways. Insert rods through the sleeves. Hook one side of the rod to one corner, arch the rods and hook the other side of the rod to the opposite corner. Repeat for the other rod.
