In 1922, French engineer Maxime Guillaume was granted a patent for a simple jet engine. While never built, it had the right idea. It consisted of a series of turbines to compress air, which was then mixed with fuel and ignited. The resulting rapidly expanding gas produced thrust.
The first turbojets were built by Frank Whittle in Britain and Hans von Ohain in Germany. In 1939, one of von Ohain`s engines was used to power the Heinkel He 178, the first jet aircraft.
In 1879, Karl Benz patented a reliable two-stroke gas engine. In 1892, Rudolf Diesel developed the first compressed charge, compression ignition engine. In 1954 German engineer Felix Wankel patented a “pistonless” engine using an eccentric rotary design.

He still received only limited funding and support, and on August 27, 1939, the German Heinkel He 178, designed by Hans Joachim Pabst von Ohain, made the first jet flight in history. The German prototype jet was developed independently of Whittle`s efforts.
The jet engine revolutionized air travel. Powerful and durable, jets enabled aircraft manufacturers to build bigger, faster, and more productive airliners. Jet technology also enabled airlines to reduce their operating costs and their airfares.
The blades spin at high speed and compress or squeeze the air. The compressed air is then sprayed with fuel and an electric spark lights the mixture. The burning gases expand and blast out through the nozzle, at the back of the engine. As the jets of gas shoot backward, the engine and the aircraft are thrust forward.

The Comet was capable of traveling 480 miles per hour, a record speed at the time. However, the initial commercial service was short-lived, and due to a series of fatal crashes in 1953 and 1954, the entire fleet was grounded.
Wilbur and Orville Wright spent four years of research and development to create the first successful powered airplane, the 1903 Wright Flyer. It first flew at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903, with Orville at the controls.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn’t start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power if I increase throttle while in gear. Engine will somtimes get to top speed but often while running at top speed engine will start to slow rapidly. Engine has full range of operationout when out of the water where there is no load on engine but is still difficult to cold start. Before these recent problems the engine sat up for several months and I had to change the impeller and spark plugs. Spark plugs fire, cylinders have proper pressure of 100, 100, and 110. I cleaned some fuel lines and filters and got new gas.
ANSWER : Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?

LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks

ANSWER : We had the same problem with our snowblower. we tried everything. ponits, adjustments. even converted points to electronics. we ened up putting on a brand new carborater and it runs great now. save youself the headaches and buy a new carborator. we spent $87. so much better

Check all the grounding point for corrosion.

The flywheel needs to be remove with a flywheel puller. There are (should be) 3 holes in the center of the flywheel. Tap the holes with a 1/4 inch 20 national course tap. You can use the Tecumseh puller, recommended, or use another puller that fits the flywheel hole pattern.When you re-install the flywheel, make sure you squeeze the engine shut-off lever or you will damage the flywheel brake.As for the coil, disconnect the small wire(s) connected to the coil…it should be a push on type spade connector. Remove the spark plug and re-install the starter. Check for spark. If you have spark then the coil is fine and you either have a bad wire or a stretched engine shut-off cable. I rarely find bad coils; it is either the cable or wire. As for a sheared key, you will normally have spark.

1- Check the Flywheel Key. If the Key is Damaged it Will Cause this Problem. The Flywheel Key Times the Engine.
2- Check the Coil Clearance from the Flywheel. It should be .020in.
3- Check the Spark Plug Gap. Should be ,035in.
4- Check the Valve Lash on the Exhaust Valve. Should be .017in Clearance Between the Valve Stem and the Valve tappet.
5- Check for a Burnt Valve(the valve must be removed from the engine block to perform this check). Hope this Helps.
