The number at the top right is the Yamaha model number and year. The number denotes the outboard`s HP, and the last letter denotes the outboard`s year of manufacture. In the picture above, the F225TXRC outboard`s 225 means it`s 225HP and it was manufactured in 2004.
Under the cowl on the powerhead there will be a sticker a bit under 1 inch square with the year of manufacturer on it.
The model name and the serial number are written on the sticker attached to the bottom or the rear side of the instrument.
The 10th character in the 17-character VIN represents the vehicle model-year. This standard applies to vehicles built in or after 1981.
The first 3 digits are the Manufacturer`s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand such as Sea Ray, Meridian, etc.). The 4 digits after that are the manufacturer`s serial number for the boat. The 3rd and 4th digits from the end are the date of manufacture.
The serial number can help you determine the year of your engine. Your serial number or model number can be found on the engine`s mid-section. Often this plate is also marked with the engine`s year too.
Yamaha 2 Stroke Portable

As of January 1/2012 due to EPA regulations all traditional carbureted 2-stroke outboards are no longer manufacturered in nor imported into North America. For Yamaha that means all 2- strokes 115HP and lower.

Your VIN number is your vehicle identification number and you can find your engine size by VIN number. In the series of numbers and letters, the tenth from the left denotes the model year and the eighth is the engine codes. Just tell the store clerk those two characters and you`re in business.
Your serial number is located on your engine plate, often located on the left-hand side of the engine. Typically the first letters and numbers will identify the engine, for example, DJ51279, to find all the parts we have online for your engine.
The quick rules for giving an approximate date of any Japanese Yamaha is as follows. 7 digit serial number beginning with a 1 means 1970-1974. 7 digit serial number beginning with a 2 means 1975-1979. 7 digit serial number beginning with a 3 means 1980-1984. 7 digit serial number beginning with a 4 means 1985-1989.
Identify Details

If for some reason, you can`t locate the VIN on your Yamaha motorcycle, you can also use the engine serial number. This number is usually on the engine or frame and should have six to eight characters. To decode the engine serial number, you`ll need to look up the specific code for your bike`s model.

As noted, the vehicle`s year is identified by a letter or number in the 10th position from the left in the VIN. As shown above, the 10th character of the VIN indicates its model year.
In recent years, a permanent sticker typically can be found on the transom bracket, usually near the serial-number sticker, that gives the month and year of engine manufacture.
To Determine Manufacture Date Based on Serial Number: The 1st three numbers of your serial number will always provide your manufacture date. The 1st number is the YEAR of manufacture; the 2nd & 3rd numbers indicate the MONTH of manufacture. Please see the detailed explanation and examples provided below.
On the side of your motor you`ll find a plate. This tells you the make, model and serial number. You`ll only need the serial number if it`s an outboard motor. Different model plates have the same information but may vary in layout.
Make, Model and Year

The type/model and year the boat was built can be found imprinted on the hull of the boat in the Hull Identification Number or HIN code.

All Yamaha motorcycles that were built after the standardization of the VIN format in 1981 have 17-character vehicle identification numbers.
The first-generation Yamaha F-Series models, manufactured between 2000-2005, are notorious for severe and unusually fast dry exhaust corrosion problems. The F225 models, in particular, experienced this issue after only 500-700 hours of use.
The main disadvantage of the two-stroke outboard motor is that it does not have the same longevity as a four-stroke. Two-stroke motors require a mixture of oil and gas to lubricate all of the moving parts, which can be expensive and somewhat difficult to formulate.
Decoding your VIN

It tells you the country of origin. The second character denote the manufacturer. The third character tells you the vehicle type or division. The fourth through the eighth characters tell you the vehicle brand, body style, engine size and type, model, and series.

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a 17-digit code, comprised of capital letters and numbers, that uniquely identifies a vehicle. Each letter and number provide specific pieces of information about your vehicle including the year, make, model, engine size, and manufacturer.
You can find your vehicle`s engine size on your Window Sticker. It will be listed under “Vehicle Description” at the top of the window sticker.
The engine type code is stamped into the side of the engine, usually close to the serial number. Engine type codes may be up to 4 characters.
Engine serial numbers are specific numbers assigned to every individual engine. No engine that exists has the same serial number as another engine. If you know your engine serial number, you can find out the exact parts your engine was built with when it was first made.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn’t start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power if I increase throttle while in gear. Engine will somtimes get to top speed but often while running at top speed engine will start to slow rapidly. Engine has full range of operationout when out of the water where there is no load on engine but is still difficult to cold start. Before these recent problems the engine sat up for several months and I had to change the impeller and spark plugs. Spark plugs fire, cylinders have proper pressure of 100, 100, and 110. I cleaned some fuel lines and filters and got new gas.
ANSWER : Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?

HI!
I continually get code 90 (low/NO flow) from my 8111. I have disassembled, cleaned EVERYTHING, including the inlet port AT the pump (remind everybody to check this as stuff gets past the filter basket and will plug the pump inlet).

There is No air in the system and I get superb pressure at the outlet, yet I still get code 90. I again removed the flow sensor and put my ohm meter across the flow sensor terminals and activated the flapper and measured an open circuit. I used a heavier magnet to see if I could get make the internals of the sensor move to get an ohm reading, but I get nothing but an open circuit, ie: no measured resistance.

Can I simply bypass the defective flow sensor to trick the 8111 to think it has full flow without damaging the ‘brain’ of the system.?

Intex corp is useless at these questions. They have been out of stock on this sensor for months and are telling me “two weeks” for two months and now it’s “end of August” which I do not believe. Meanwhile I am making no chlorine while the 90 code is showing.

I love the 8111, this is the first problem I’ve had with it, and I’m frustrated that I can not get such an important part from them.

LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks

I have a TX500, never been used (just out of the box) and had to get an electrician to my home for this problem. It will start rolling but quits in a few seconds. The electrician believes that it is a problem in the sensor that rides at the belt. There is only one sensor in the pulley; he thinks that perhaps there should be two as there is a hole placement opposite the one that is in there. When the belt quits, it goes to a number 3 on the board which he thinks is the sensor as well. If he is correct, where do we get another magnet to place there? If he is not correct, please offer help. We did not get a owners manual in the box and surely could use one; where can we get one? Please help…thankyou

Engine runs rough when we throttle up
ANSWER : Sounds like a spark plug issue. If the spark plug is not torqued after a good number of months it can seep at high rev sustained pressure. Otherwise I would look at the spark compensator or possibly the float.
