Drain the Engine (for inboards and stern-drives)

Locate and open the petcocks (some engines have bronze plugs similar to bilge plugs) underneath the manifolds and on the sides of the engine block. Remove the water-pump hose from the bottom of the water pump to let it drain completely.

All boats (except ProStar) have two drain plugs, which allow water to be drained from the boat when the boat is OUT of the water.
Pour 1/2 cup or more of baking soda down the drain, then add 1 cup of vinegar — cider vinegar works best as it has the highest acidic content. It`s a simple, mild acid-base combination that will foam and expand and work its way through a lot of clogs.
However, if you remove the boat plug while it is in the water, or forget to install it before putting the boat in the water, then water will start to flow into the boat. Forgetting to install the boat`s drain plug happens to even the best boaters – but if you do not notice in time, your boat will sink.
Garboard Plugs: Garboard plugs allow quick drainage of boat when hauled out. They ensure a watertight fit and can use features found on both twist and nylon plugs. They are also easy to remove with basic tools.
Hole Diameter

Garboard drains are available for transom holes ranging from ¾ to 1½ inches in diameter. The most common for today`s recreational boat is one that fits a 1-inch diameter hole.

Unlike on your car, inboard marine-engine installations typically provide little or no access to the oil-pan drain plug or enough space below the engine to place an open container to catch the draining oil.

To determine the right size of plug, you need to measure the diameter of the drain mesh or the underside of your current plug. Then you`ll be able to shop for the style of sink plug you want and be able to choose the right size the first time.
I tend to replace every 2 years or so just so the rubber portion seems softer and seals better.
Boats that are made for larger bodies of water, such as oceans or large lakes, have bilge pumps rather than bilge plugs. These pumps remove any water that enters the boat and keep it dry, often using an automatic system that turns them on and off as needed. Small boats, on the other hand, typically have a bilge plug.
It`s important to never fill the tank of your boat beyond 90% full. This leaves room for gas to expand and avoids the potential for overflow. Ensure that all air vents and valves to the gas tank are open. After you`re done fueling, tightly replace the gas cap.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn’t start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power if I increase throttle while in gear. Engine will somtimes get to top speed but often while running at top speed engine will start to slow rapidly. Engine has full range of operationout when out of the water where there is no load on engine but is still difficult to cold start. Before these recent problems the engine sat up for several months and I had to change the impeller and spark plugs. Spark plugs fire, cylinders have proper pressure of 100, 100, and 110. I cleaned some fuel lines and filters and got new gas.
ANSWER : Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?

We have a pop-up with the sink that folds down. We need to replace the sink drain from the sink to outside, but the only flex drain hoses that I can find have a hose only 26 inches long. I know that will not be long enough to go from the sink to the outside of the camper.

Do you know if any place I can go to get a sink drain system with a longer hose. The contraption (I don’t know what it is called) at the base of the sink drain has rusted off so that the swivel part of the drain system is gone. We currently have a garden hose connected to the pipe coming directly from the drain, but when we close the camper, it pops off.

Do you have any suggestions?



ANSWER : Hi mj2181,I would say your problem should be solved easily with a hose extension , if you can get the extension and then use it , it should be ok for you and there should be no need to get a sink drain system with a longer hose.An example of an extension hose can be found on this link :- this helps ,

LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks

Does the John Deere series 100 lawn tractor have some sort of safety feature that shuts the engine off if it gets dangerously low on oil? I was cutting grass this morning and the engine sputtered and quit. I got off the tractor and noticed that the oil drain line plug was open and dripping oil. Have I ruined my engine or can I refill it with oil and continue on?
ANSWER : Not sure on this specific mower, but oil is usually there to lubricate and keep the temp down. When theres none in it, it gets hot and melts the pistons. Sounds bad to me

I just purchased this Yamaha boat w/Twin MR-1 140hp motors, less than 100hrs (60 prox)and the starboard motor only reached 8000rpm on a 10000 redline spec (the port motor reaches 10000rpm. I have replaced the spark plugs immediatly and now the motor reaches 9500rpm. When the plugs were replaced the plug wire top of the plugs had a black powder residue (like graphite)and #1 & 4 plug electrode end were black minimal soot and #2 & #3 had a white color residue on the ceramic.

Any suggestions to attain the full 10000rpm?

A Yamaha dealer is 100 miles, so I would like to fix myself if possible. Thanks

I have a yamaha raptor 4 wheeler. I can not get it to start until I unplug the regulator module in the back or the conection plug on left side of machine. the electrical line comes from the regulator through the plug down into left side of engine. not sure what is in there? with machine running if I plug the lines together it will die Unplug and it will fire right up. Any help?

ANSWER : You most defiantly have a short you need to trace the wires down
and find out witch one is grounded

you may even have a bad alternator that’s grounded or the regulator
the way they make things to day its very hard to test some units

its all going to be trial and error
