A circuit breaker will usually trip when there is an electrical fault that could cause damage to the circuit. This is usually an excess of current, a power surge or a faulty component.
The most common cause of a tripped circuit breaker is an overload in that circuit. Each circuit is only intended to carry a certain electrical load, and if it exceeds this load, it will cause the breaker to trip.
The best place to start is to check the heating element. The heating element works to heat the air that distributes around your dryer. When the heating element is faulty, it can short out the heating housing, which then causes the dryer to trip the circuit breaker.
Common reasons your breaker keeps tripping include circuit overload, a short circuit, or a ground fault.
A momentary interruption typically lasts less than a second and is usually caused by a short circuit. Short circuits happen when something comes in contact with power lines, such as an animal or tree, or when power lines come in contact with each other.

Check for overload

If the breaker trips immediately, even with nothing plugged in, it`s likely you have a short, not an overload. If the breaker holds, go back to the room and start plugging things in and turning them on one by one. After each item, pause, then do the next one.

A short circuit should always cause a breaker to trip or a fuse to blow and may also cause sparks, popping sounds, or smoke. It may also be caused by issues like loose connections, a slipped wire, or even from damage caused by animals (mice or squirrels) chewing on wires.
When a circuit breaker trips, too much electricity is trying to move through the circuit at once, causing the circuit breaker to literally break the circuit. Too much electricity passing through a circuit can overheat the electrical wiring in your home or electrical devices, which can cause a fire or electrocution.
It is safe to reset a breaker only if it has been determined that the circuit was overloaded. Repeatedly resetting a breaker could result in an arc flash or a fire. If the cause is due to a short-circuit or a ground fault, a qualified electrician must be notified to investigate the problem.
When you lose power only to have it back on again, it often means that the circuit breaker tripped. However, that is not always the case. In some instances, it can point to more serious issues, such as a short circuit somewhere in your electrical system.
Power flickers … momentary outages … brief service interruptions – these are some of the terms used to describe brief power outages lasting less than 60 seconds. Regardless of what you call them, they`re annoying because they can briefly shut down the electronic devices and appliances in your home or business.
Without power trips, there would be no way to identify, prevent, or fix certain electrical issues. The outlets may spark an electrical fire due to overheating, and other electrical surges can cause your appliances to blow out.
Too often, being a leader and owning power can trip you up. Power in such cases can be misused or abused. This is often referred to as being on a “power trip.” Power tripping is usually viewed negatively and can cause others to lose respect and appreciation for you as their leader.
The first step in finding a short circuit is to look for physical signs. This may include visible burns or melted metal on wires, burning smells, or flickering lights. Once you`ve identified a potential short, use your multimeter to confirm the voltage by placing it on its resistance or continuity setting.
An electrician is coming to replace the cutoff (containing fuses) with a simple lever cutoff. In discussing this he said that a circuit breaker should not be allowed to trip more than 4 or 5 times before being replaced.
The average lifespan of a circuit breaker is about 30 to 40 years. However, this doesn`t mean you shouldn`t check your breakers every once in a while. There are several signs to watch out for that can help you get ahead of a broken or outdated circuit breaker. How do you know if a circuit breaker needs to be replaced?
You`ll know if your home is in danger of an electrical fire if you see (or smell) these signs: Circuit breaker keeps tripping. Persisting burnt smell with no identifiable source.
Pull the panel door open. If you`re lucky enough to have a Square D QO panel (the breakers will all have little clear windows on them) it`s easy to find a tripped breaker. Just look for the breaker that has a red-orange window. That`s the tripped breaker.
Replacing an old circuit breaker is a job best handled by a licensed electrician and must only be done with the electricity disconnected. Doing so may require a permit and electrical codes must be strictly observed to guarantee the safety of your home and family.

Replacing a circuit breaker switch costs between $100 and $200, including parts and labor. Standard 15- to 20-amp circuit breaker switches cost $5 to $15 each, and larger 20-amp switches cost $10 to $20 each.

In most cases, it takes just a few minutes to do. As long as there are no ongoing causes, an intermittent circuit breaker trip can be fixed in just a few minutes.
A circuit breaker can fail without tripping and is an indication it needs to be replaced. It can also mean there are wiring issues with the circuit itself, such as exposed/loose wiring, overheating, and unregulated voltage.

My swimming pool. I have just had my fifth IC 40 Intellichlor chlorine generator installed in 4 years at a cost of over $900 today. Each one has worked for no more than 8 months. The first three were replaces under three year warranty, the fourth by a factory rep and I bought the fifth today. The first three all failed with Flow Chk PCB error message. The fourth just stopped working on Sunday, no power or lights. A local Pentair warranty person, whom I paid a Service Call, unplugged the unit, opened the small power center cover, showed me the green light indicating that there was power, plugged in a new IC 40 which worked immediately (as did the other four). I asked if I should replace the power center and he said that it’s basically just a transformer and is working fine. We do get occasional power blips that make the clocks on microwaves, etc blink, but I thought that the power center essentially isolates the cell from these. I do have a Florida Power and Light surge protector on the electrical box that brings power into the house. I have now talked to the pool builder, two Pentair warranty repairmen and one factory rep. I am at a loss. They all tell me they have no idea why these units fail after less than a year. This last IC 40 was installed 3/24/2010, version 2.0 and now failed in less than 5 months. Should I replace the power center that the IC 40 plugs into. Any other suggestions. I have been told that this is the best chlorinator. I don’t want to keep replacing units. By the way, each unit had been spotless inside. I keep the water chemicals and salt levels at ideal levels. The units have never worked long enough to get dirty inside. The power center is connected to an Intellitouch control system outside with an indoor control panel. Last time I called Pentair North Carolina and got some smart alec tech person that had no suggestions. Please Help if you can.
ANSWER : I’ve had the same experiance. On my fifth one as well. Fail every year. No idea why.

I have the Intex Sand/Pump pool filter Model SF 20110. It’s been running real great for the last 4 months. However recently it has been tripping the internal overloads and I have found the pump motor to be very hot when I put my hand against it. I have tried several different solutions, such as a level ground platform that was clear of any obstructions, made sure that the motor vents under the motor was clear of anything that would prevent air flow. I used a non electrical type of lubricate on the impeller. When I would turn on the pump the rotor would not turn but only would hum very loudly and then slowly begin to turn. I also noticed that the motor’s rotor shaft would not turn to freely due the tightness around the rotor’s shaft. After using the lubricate the shaft would turn a little easier. I used an amp meter on the incoming voltage line and the motor would run at 4.5 amp. And yet it still overheated and tripped the motor overloads. I can only think that the motor is still not getting enough ventilation. I have check and cleared all the incoming lines and found nothing block the pumps input or output lines. Any suggestion?
ANSWER : I just looking into this issue my self. The pump cools itself by a internal fan, which is run by the motor. Well I took the housing cover off to find out all the fan blades have broken off and were setting in the base of the pump. Once you remove the fan blades from covering the air intake, it might be fine. I will find out my self once summer gets here.

ANSWER : Yes i can , you need to hookup the r and the o together so that the reversing vvalvce is allways energized . so with that im mind send r,y,c,o to theout side unit. at the ahu you’ll hook up the 5 wires for the furnace, r g w1 w2 com and at the thermostat r,w1,w2,y,g,com,o then you will be set (the o get hooked up to o and goes straight out side.

When I turn it on it stays on for about 2 seconds and then turns itself on. If I hold the power button in it will stay on.
ANSWER : Hello.

Guaranteed it is the switch that is faulty, if it stays on when you hold the power button down, but off when released, then a replacement switch will be required.

We puechsaed a lay z spa deluxe in the uk and took it back to spain where it was working fine however every now and again the display shows cgf now i know the power supply is earthed sbur we are on builders supply as this is a new devplement but the proplem we how have is that the spa will not heat higher than 32c and sometimes when it as been turn off and turned on again it can be someime before it starts up. Can you tell me what the proplem maybe we have had it checked out by the local swimming pool shop but they can not find anything wrong
ANSWER : The heating element is faulty and must be replaced, but first if you are capable also check to make sure it is recieving the correct voltage to power the element.

Have a 2004 kawasaki 3010 desiel mule that has worked fine for years with regular maint. then yesterday we started it as usual with the glow plug lights indicator and it ran for a few minutes until we went to take of and it just died. period. we tried to check thing out and finally found a bad fuse in the glow plug fuse holder, changed it with the same size and it ran the rest of the time we needed it and then again today we started and ran it same as yesterday and it worked fine for about 30 to 45 minutes and will out in the field it just quite. i immediately started searching for signs of heat or melting of wire or other signs and found none. the fuse that goes into this circuit is a 5 amp and all i had was a 20 so i said lets see what happens. it immediately blow the fuse without any out ward sign of problems.??????
