Softshell Jackets Washing FAQS

Wash at 30°C or 40°C (check the garment care label) on a gentle machine cycle with a non-biological detergent (without a built-in fabric softener) ensuring all zips and hook and loop sections are fastened. After the detergent wash place on an additional rinse cycle. Drip dry.

We recommend using liquid detergents, clothing impregnation liquids and spray impregnation agents. Softshell jackets must not be tumble dried, ironed, dry cleaned, soaked before washing or bleached.
Dry your jacket in a tumble dryer on a medium heat setting (40°C /104°F) for 40 to 50 minutes. Do not dry clean or use bleach or fabric softeners. Ensure that your jacket is fully dry before storing.
Washing and Drying a Down North Face Jacket

Warm water and a mild powder detergent are recommended. For best results, repeat the rinse and spin cycles to help remove all soap residue. Make sure all pockets are emptied out and zipped up.

You can either hand-wash (which I do) or machine-wash your softshell, but if you choose to machine wash you must remove all trace of washing powder and fabric softener from the machine before hand. You can rub neat Tech Wash into any areas with stubborn stains before washing.
ARE SOFTSHELL JACKETS WINDPROOF AND WATERPROOF? The face or outer fabric of softshell jackets is usually treated with a water-repellent, so while not completely waterproof they do offer protection from light rain and snow.
Softshell jackets are an ideal mid-layer when conditions are cold and you need something more robust than a fleece in a layering system. A softshell can be worn over a base layer or t-shirt as an outer layer on mild-cool days due to their water-resistant and windproof capabilities.
Once you`ve finished cleaning your softshell jacket, it`s important to air dry it. Avoid using a dryer or other heat source, as this can cause the material to shrink or lose its shape.
If don`t have a dryer available, you can air-dry your jacket by hanging it in an area that gets plenty of fresh air, and gently break up the clumps with your fingers as it dries. You can place it near a heater to help speed up the drying.
We recommend using Nikwax Down Wash for your jacket, but a gentle detergent like Woolite will work in a pinch. For down wash, I recommend using Granger Down Wash, Gear Aid ReviveX Down Wash, or Nikwax Down Wash. I`ve used them all and they work very well.
Check the care tag for instructions

The care tag will usually have all the information you need, like whether or not your coat is machine-washable, which wash cycle and water temperature it needs, special instructions about specific detergents, and how to properly dry it.

All jackets should be treated as delicate garments when it comes to washing them in the washing machine, so choose a gentle cycle for them.
They`re comfortable, breathable and provide excellent protection against wind and rain. Plus, they come with additional features like pockets and adjustable cuffs, making them even more functional. So if you`re in the market for a new outdoor jacket, then a soft shell jacket is definitely worth considering.
Style and Fit

Softshell jackets are generally short in length and should be worn quite tight fitting. The stretchy material means there is still a good range of movement, but the tighter fit helps to retain heat.

The softshell is therefore the assembly of a first layer of stretch polyester fabric which provides comfort when worn. The intermediate layer is composed of a microperforated membrane repellent waterproof and windproof but permeable body moisture, all ensuring optimum insulation.
Softshells are usually made from a combination of materials such as polyester and nylon, which are woven together for durability and comfort. These materials make up most outdoor apparel and gear, and aren`t quite 100% waterproof, but are highly breathable, wear well against the skin, and last a long time.
Three layers of clothing will keep you dry and warm: a base layer for removing moisture, a mid-layer to keep you warm, and an outer layer to protect you from the elements.
Because softshells are highly breathable, they don`t retain heat as much as fleeces do. This is why you can find softshells with an inside layer made of fleece. However, it will affect the breathability of the softshell.
The basic difference is that fleece is designed to provide warmth not weather protection while soft shell is designed to provide weather protection before warmth. Fleece is only wind or water resistant if a second material – an inner membrane or outer tightly woven shell – is added.
Outerwear — such as coats or jackets — typically doesn`t need to be washed more than once a month since it doesn`t touch your skin, Rossi said. “If you`re wearing it every day, probably (wash it) every two weeks,” he suggested.
While some outerwear can be washed, many jackets and coats require special care when cleaning. Delicate garments like fur coats and leather jackets should be dry cleaned. You should always check the care instructions on the tag or bring your clothes to a professional who can determine the best way to clean outerwear.
The good news is that jackets can be washed in a washing machine with cold or warm water and mild detergent.
Check the care tag on the coat and follow any special instructions regarding water temperature, and cycle speed, and length. Also note any products, such as bleach or fabric softener, that should be avoided. In general, machine-washable winter coats can be washed using cold water and the washer`s regular cycle.

Our 1996 Ski-Doo MXZ brakes won’t bleed, we took the caliper apart to clean it because the brakes were freezing up on it when they heated up. So my husband cleaned the caliper and put it back on and the breaks won’t bleed at all now. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the line, but the fluid will not flow through when he bleeds them…now what??
ANSWER : The problem is in the master cylinder, There are two small holes at the bottom of the master. the first one (the bigger of the two) is closest to where the brake handle pushes on the plunger should be clean. The second one is the problem it will be plugged with rust . You will need a 12 thousands of an inch drill to clean this out. What I used was a torch tip cleaner. very carefully clean the hole out and blow air into the bleeder in the brake caliper if it is clean you should have mist coming out the small hole you just cleaned. put new brake fluid in (dot 4) bleed the air out things should be back to normal.

The Bike Technicians Tactic Phase1 An electrical inspection on the bike should produce results. First, the bike battery powers the entire lightening systems mentionable as ignition, meter readings, head lamps, signal indicators. However, the battery provides the power supply to several entities though also significant is the fuse box containing circuit protection coils. Inserting the bike key into the ignition to perform start mode displays the capacity power circuits. A charged battery should display an indication in the meter reading area also known as bike dashboard grading. A malfunctioning start mode on inserting key in ignition may be traceable several locations on the electrical circuits. Attempting to repair the electrical power of the bike usually requires batter power power test kit. The test kit ascertains the battery power making possible progress to the remaining electrical circuits. Test kit also ascertains the fuse box circuit functionality either with fuses still intact or extracted allowing for the next progress level. An observation tour of the bikes electrical wiring kits from battery hold through fuse box compartments to each lightening display area either headlamps, indicators, and meter reading should produce results of any visible damages that may require repairs after the electrical inspection has been performed. Once any faults were observed on the electrical channels, repair mode is the next level. A dull battery either may have been depleted completely of durational capacity requiring another for replacement. Alternately, a depleted power supply due to prolonged storage may require charge functionalities. Usually, a device capacapble of restoring a battery of electrolytes is resorted for charger ability. The type of battery may require constuents either liquid cathode replenishment in the battery entrapment area prior to charging feature is assumed with electrolyte machine. Once the battery has regained full functionality makes way the next repair task. The fuse box may have simply required replacement fuses either as missing or burnt out. A fuse box usually contains additional spare for replacement functionalities. An alternate arrangement at acquiring fuses on the auto mart may replace the burnt devices. The next electrical task is wiring fixtures achievable by mending broken cords with appropriate electrician’s tapes else malfunctions may remain. Alternately, a worn-out electrical wire is replaceable by acquiring the entire extension lengthwise between significant areas. The last remaining electrical units are lightening indicators consisting of bulbs or luminescent displays reflectors. Observe the blub areas either by loosening covers to inspect for observable burnouts else the entire electrical circuitry is ready for functionality observations with separate entities. Engine Technicians Tactic PHASE 2 A bike engine inspection includes observation for indications of malfunction. Any fluid residue is indication of problem areas. Where oil leaks usually requires engine block inspections. A bike engine consists of an entrapment compartment where mechanical combustion takes place. First, the entire observable block consists of an external coating known as engine bloc housing internal component of pistons, rings, and fastens known as cylinder heads. A bike engine has every component embedded within requiring technical expertise to achieve an inspection. Once deciding on the engine task requirements, acquire a tool box with the appropriate componements as first requirement before engine works is commence able. Second, the bike may require an area environment as workshop requirement to attain engine inspections. Third, bike engine are least bulky compared with vehicle engines however assistance would complement the inspection phase. Prior to inspecting the bike engine, a strap mechanism has to be assumed to achieve expert maneuverability also as safe precaution. Unless parts hinder maneuverability at engine locations, the only removable components should be the engine. First, start with disjointing the spark plug cables to acquire accessibility to plugs imbedded on the cylinder heads. The plugs require tools to loosen thereby exposing the combustible area. Once the spark plugs are exposed, two alternatives are likely. First, a spark plug may have gathered rust residue only requiring cleaning to attain regular capacity. The pin area of the spark plug may have been twisted due to overheating and slight melting dislocation. Usually cleaning the residue from old plugs may simply expose the ignitable capacities. However, an observation of twisted plug pin may require twisting back in place to achieve full ignitability once bike engine starts. A bike engine bloc has the pistons as combustibles or blasters of fuel gasoline. The rings perform as strap fasteners whenever the pistons move about combustibility. Usually, the engine entrapment components would have collected residue requiring clearing. Also, pistons together with rings may require replacements either as worn-out due to prolongs tasks or overexerted biker features.
