Gas leaks around the lawn mower air filter can indicate your engine valves are not working properly. If your engine has a fuel shut-off valve, ensure that this valve is closed when the engine is not in use.
If the lawn mower leaks gas the carburetor bowl gasket on the bottom of the carburetor might be dried out or missing. If the leak is coming from the bottom of the carburetor, try replacing the carburetor bowl gasket.
It is caused by excessive carbon deposits or engine sludge developing inside the crankcase. When the oil does not flow efficiently, excessive engine oil pressure will be created and cause extra oil to push through the PCV valve and into the air intake.
When you see oil coming out of exhaust vents, then it is also possible that your lawn mower has engine damage. There are several reasons that could have caused your engine to become damaged. Some of the possible reasons for engine damage can be a blown head gasket, a broken piston ring, or worn valves.
Gas Smell. Finally, because your carburetor and fuel injection system aren`t getting enough from the clogged air filter, you might smell gas. This is the fuel that hasn`t burned and is leaving your engine through the exhaust pipe. If you smell gas coming through your air vents.
Clogged or Dirty Air Filters
Dirty air filters are one of the most common reasons lawn mowers sputter. Dirt can be present in the apertures that lead from the carburetor and the fuel filter and interrupt the flow of fuel supply to the combustion chamber. You want to be sure to clean or replace dirty air filters.
Look For These Loose Oil Filter Symptoms
The most visible sign of an engine oil leak is oil on the ground beneath your car. It may be just a few drops of oil or a sizable puddle. Either way, your oil filter could be to blame.
Blue or white smoke coming from your engine usually indicates burning oil, which can be caused by: Overfilling the crankcase with oil. Incorrect oil grades. Operating engine at greater than a 15 degree angle.
A common sign of stray blow-by is evidenced by oil on the outer surfaces of the valve covers. This is often improperly remedied by wrapping a shop rag or sock around the base of the breather, which simply prevents a mess but doesn`t address the root of the problem.
If the air filter is dirty, it passes less air into the engine. That is not a good thing. It can impact your gas mileage – by as much as 10 % – and it will also affect engine performance.
What are the symptoms of a dirty air filter? A fuel smell, performance issues, decreased fuel economy, black exhaust smoke, engine noises, and/or a Check Engine Light on are signs you need a new air filter.
The mower surges when the carburetor sucks air through an unsealed gap in the air intake manifold instead of through the air filter. Dirty carburetor. Clogged fuel jets inside the carburetor commonly cause the lawn mower engine to surge. Clogged jets can`t provide the right mix of air and fuel to the engine.
If petrol is coming out of your primer bulb, this means that it is backing up in your carburettor and flowing out of the primer tube. The float-valve in your carburettor has most likely got stuck and just needs to be adjusted.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn’t start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power if I increase throttle while in gear. Engine will somtimes get to top speed but often while running at top speed engine will start to slow rapidly. Engine has full range of operationout when out of the water where there is no load on engine but is still difficult to cold start. Before these recent problems the engine sat up for several months and I had to change the impeller and spark plugs. Spark plugs fire, cylinders have proper pressure of 100, 100, and 110. I cleaned some fuel lines and filters and got new gas.
Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?
LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks

I have a 99 yamaha f100 four stroke outboard. Problem I have is boat will acclereate fine get up on plane and after running for about a mob at wot will decell and only run around 4500 rpm. Then after coming back to idle will have a slight miss then run smooth and repeat every run. Changed the plugs and fuel filters alll oe yamaha has fresh oil timing belt is good any ideas will help or fuel psi spec. I am an ase master automotive tech so I know alot about engs. To me it feels like it’s running out of gas. Like the carb bows are full when I take off but then runs out after running wot. Any info will help

Craftsman gas powered blower / vac. Model 358.794740 This blower starts fine and idles well. THE ENGINE STALLS EVERY TIME THE TRIGGER IS PULLED TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE. I have replaced the gas line filter, replaced the spark plug, cleaned the air filter and cleaned the exhaust screen. Any idea on how to fix this?
Check muffler mounting screws. also check the ENGINE• Remove spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of 40:1,2-cycle engine oil (aircooled) through the spark plug opening.Slowly pull the starter rope 8 to10 times to distribute oil.• Replace spark plug with new one of recommended type and heat range.• Clean air filter.• Check entire unit for loose screws,nuts, and bolts. Replace any damaged,broken, or worn parts.•use only fresh fuel having the proper gasoline to oil ratio.
2005 4 stroke yamaha 150 550hrs. normally use every week but due to surgery not used for 10weeks. Just before I went down I changed internal fuel filter, and zincs in motor. finally put in sunday. motor started fine left dock hit the power and started to come up on plane then stuttered and died. changed the external fuel/water seperator pump up the primer and started up again. with in a minute died down again. limped back to dock checked fuel filter and plug wire connections. pumped up primer and left dock went right onto plane for maybe 150yds then coughed and died. I could pump up primer and it would run but then die out. the fuel filter at the front of the engine would run dry until I pumped it up again. If it were a car I would suspect a leak in a fuel line but I can’t find any sign of one.
before we launched I put 10 gallons of fresh fuel in and added another bottle of ethanol stabilizer (CRC brand)
what proceedure should I follow to isolate the problem? I am a fairly competent mechanic as far as cars and trucks go. I don’t really want to have to take it to a marine mechanic.
This is going to be the fuel pump is not pumping any fuel. The primer is acting as a fuel pump. When you prime it, it gives the engine enough fuel to run for a little bit. But as soon as the fuel runs out, the engine is dying. So this is going to be a bad fuel pump.
Poor suction at skimmer box. Cleaned all filters. No change. Pump was damaged. Replaced pump. Still had poor suction. Checked for airleaks by using foam to see if air was being sucked in. Found no leaks.
Please advise if you have any other possible reasons for this occurring. This is an inground pool. Piping runs under ground surface for about 14 metres. Could an air leak occur underground?
Hi, W/D here.It is not too likely that there is an air leak under ground. The piping is normally routed in a manner to keep the lines full. I would only suspect such a leak if I were losing water level at a faster than normal rate. It sounds like you’ve checked what I’d have checked, but here’s a few more.General start up: Make sure that you bleed air from the system when you start the equipment. Bleed air off of the discharge of the pump, and off of the filter.1. At the circulation pump, there is a strainer that operates like your skimmer basket. Make sure that it is clean., and that the cap is on tight and sealing.2. Make sure that your valving is in the right position on the suction and discharge lines. If your suction line is selectable (i.e., skimmer or bottom drain), make sure that it is in the desired position. If the suction at the skimmer is low, but the output at the recirculation nozzles is normal, this might be the problem.3. Check for adequate flow at the discharge of the pump.4. Check for proper pressure at the filter. Most filters are equipped with a gauge with indicators chowing normal pressure, and another indicator usually set 10 psi higher to indicate when the filter is becoming plugged.5. If equipped with a heater, check your valving there as well.Well, that’s all that I can think of for now. Hope that this helped a bit!–W/D–
We have a bad smell in our Rockwood 8284ss 5th wheel. It is hard to describe because it is not coming from the stool. There is not much odor when flushed and is not very strong in bathroom. It seems to be strongest in the storage compartment under the front of the camper and also then in the bedroom area there and at the front end of the slide out inside. The closest I can come to describing the smell is to say it smells like a bunch of dirty diapers in a pile or wet clothes that have been standing. Maybe a little on the urine smell also. This has been noticeable for about the last week. As far as I can tell there is nothing wet sitting in any of those areas and we have had no leaks in the camper that we know of.
Sounds like your holding tank is leaking.
