So, considering that, along with luggage and camping equipment, a 4 person tent for 4 people can get quite cramped. For a group of 4 people, especially if they`re adults, and all the camping gear they`ll likely bring with them, it`s a good idea to consider investing in a 6 person tent instead.
Though many campers will orient a tent with the smaller side facing the wind for reduced resistance, it`s more important to place the side that has the strongest pole structure facing the wind. If you`re camping in a hot climate, orient a door toward the wind for cooling.
Used to build a tent for sleeping. The tent can be placed anywhere. Simply right-click the floor and click the `Put up tent` option in the menu if the tent is in the characters main inventory. When the tent is built, it will be a structure of dimensions 2x1x1 where you can sleep with an average bed quality.
As a general rule, a family of 4 will need at least a 6 person tent. A family of 5 will likely need an 8P tent and a 6-person family will need a 10P tent. However, these guidelines aren`t always accurate. Some very large tents will actually only sleep four people comfortably, especially if you are using air mattresses.
Most four-person tents have floor space ranging from 55 square feet to 65 square feet. According to our math we`re looking at tents that are nearly half the floor space needed to accommodate the four campers lying on their backs.
Pop up tents have spring loaded tent poles which come pre-attached to the body of the tent. The tent bag keeps these springs compressed and the tent folded, but when you take it out of the bag the springs force the tent poles to extend.
A very tight fit for 3 average adults. 4P Tents – Luxurious for 2-3 people with interior gear storage space. Tight but possible to fit 3 people and a child or dog. A very tight fit for 4 average adults.
Now that you know how much floor area your tent has and how much space each person should have, you can easily calculate the ideal tent size. 41.67 square feet ÷ 10 feet = 4.1 = 4-person tent.
Put a Tarp Over Your Entire Tent!

These things are very strong and waterproof and will add a huge amount of protection to your tent. Depending on the strength of the poles in your tent, you may need to add extra steel tent poles to the tarp arrangement so as not to place too much pressure on the poles.

Just remember, it might not be a good idea to lock your tent at night, in case of emergencies or an urgent toilet dash. A shoestring might be a better choice here; tie the zippers together as you would with a shoelace, so they`re easy to pull free should you need to evacuate urgently.
A tent is a shelter consisting of sheets of fabric or other material draped over, attached to a frame of poles or a supporting rope. While smaller tents may be free-standing or attached to the ground, large tents are usually anchored using guy ropes tied to stakes or tent pegs.
The parts of a tent include the tent body, vents, tent poles, a rainfly, vestibules, bug netting/mesh, groundsheets, tent pegs (stakes), guy lines, tie out points, storage pockets (gear lofts), tent footprints, etc. Each part plays an equally important part in the construction of your tent.
Four-Person Tent

If you had three adult campers plus a small child or dog, it would be a snug fit but doable. For this size, you are looking at an average floor area of 60 to 70 square feet.

Most “3-person tents” would only fit 2 people comfortably. Many tents marketed as being for 3 people are 6`x7′. Given an average 18″ adult shoulder width, the tent would give only 4.5″ between each shoulder and side if three people were in the tent.
The actual floor dimensions are 86 x 96 inches (218 x 244 cm). Klymit Maxfield 4 Tent.
Generally speaking, a tent should weigh approximately 2.5 pounds per person. Remember that when backpacking with multiple people, you can split the weight by dividing the tent, rain fly, and poles.
A loose, flappy, saggy tent is not only annoying in the wind, it`s not performing properly and can even fail under the weight of a storm. A properly pitched tent should be taut, and quiet in the wind. Improper pitching can cause condensation to worsen, stakes to pull out of the ground, and allow rain inside.
If possible, always try and find flat ground on which to pitch your tent. It makes putting up your tent a lot easier and is just generally a lot more comfortable. If you do have to pitch on a slope, position the tent so the door is facing downhill and/or in the same direction as the prevailing wind.
Cold and oxygen-rich air is drawn in at the ground under the outer tent and through separate circulation valves located low down and ensures circulation and replacement of moist air both in the inner tent and in the layer between the inner and outer tent.
In fact, most people who try it PREFER floorless tents in wet ground to a floored tent. With a floorless tent you can simply walk in with muddy boots and not worry about tracking mud or water inside. With a conventional floored tent once muck and water get inside it is trapped and very difficult to remove.
Tents Can Be Locked With Twisty Bread Ties

Twisty bread ties are simple but highly effective at locking a tent from the inside. Refreshingly, they are inexpensive, something you rarely say about camping gear. You just thread them through the two zippers and twist. Easy to undo to take a bathroom break and resecure.

Tents are sized by the number of persons accommodated, not including gear. For example, a four-person tent handles four adult sleeping bags shoulder to shoulder. Tip: Select a tent that is rated two persons more than the number of persons in your camping party.
Tents are measured in square feet. They`re usually rectangular, but some are squarer in shape, depending on the size. A tent that is closer to a square enables better sightlines and mingling than a long, rectangular tent.
Tent footprint should be just large enough for the number of people sleeping in it, with maybe a little extra room to allow for easy exits for those 3 AM bathroom runs. Having extra space inside your tent to store gear safely is great in the summer time, but creates much more air space to be heated.
