Overall, there are 4 types of reels: spincast, baitcasting, spinning and fly reels. To help you choose the right reel, we listed each of the types of fishing reels and their functional benefits for your fishing style and skill level.
A) Closed-faced reels are designed for fishing wagglers and stick floats on rivers. Line needs to be fed off the spool as the float trundles down the peg and the closed face enables you to do this smoothly because there`s no bail arm or roller to get in the way.
Most closed faced reels can handle up to a 12-pound test fluorocarbon line, which is ideal for jigging. A braided line would be the last option.
Spinning reels are often referred to as an open-face reels. They are generally the most popular type of reel for beginners because they are easy to use and less prone to tangling than baitcasting reels.
Spincast reels are the easiest to learn and simplest to operate of the three primary styles of casting reels. Generally, they are the least expensive. Spincast (spincasting) reels are identifiable by their “closed face.” That is, the spool containing the fishing line is totally enclosed within the reel itself.
Baitcasting reels are the most powerful fishing reels, hands down. They can handle heavy lines and produce a lot of pulling power, making them a great option when you`re chasing larger fish. Baitcasters also allow you to feel the line as it`s going out, so you can stop it exactly when you need to.
The Role of Creators in Better Reach for Instagram Reels and Posts. To answer whether reach is the same between Reels vs Posts, the consensus is no. According to Instagram themselves, they aren`t ranked the same. Regardless, both formats can earn you more reach.
Reels that are too long might cause your audience to disengage and drop off. This tells the algorithm that your content isn`t interesting enough. Shorter Reels that people rewatch tell the algorithm that your content is valuable and can result in it being shown to new users. But shorter isn`t always better.
So, what makes Reels different from a standard video? With Reels on Instagram, you can create short, impressive, and addictive videos of 15 – 90 seconds in length. There`s also a timer and countdown option to make filming easier. The videos can be overlaid with text that appears, disappears, moves, and more.
The open-faced spin-casting reel is different than a closed-face spin-cast reel in that the reel hangs under the rod rather seated on top of it. Also, the line is exposed rather than contained inside a plastic or metal cover.
For public accounts: Anyone on Instagram can see and share your reels. People may see your reels on places like Feed, the Reels viewer, Explore and audio, effect and hashtag pages. Anyone on Instagram can record a reel using your original audio or text.
However overfilling a reel is just as bad as not putting enough line on the reel. If there is too much line on the reel, the line may absorb water or get more brittle and take up more space on the reel. You will then have line slipping off the edge of the spool on casts and causing tangles and backlashes.
Correct tension is important when spooling with braid. If the braid is spooled too loose, a few problems can arise, including wind knots or braid slipping on or digging into the spool. Always leave a 1-2mm gap between the edge of the spool and the braid to ensure that the reel is not over spooled.
The most common reel on the market has a 6.4:1 gear ratio. This will allow you to work both fast moving presentations as well as slow. However, for certain techniques and applications, a very high or low gear ratio will often work best. For instance, burning a spinnerbait or buzzbait is best done with a 7.1:1 reel.
Casting reels should be between an eighth of an inch from the top and all the way to the top. If you get too much line on them, you`ll get a weird sound when you cast. Spinning reels should be all the way full, right to the top. If you get too much line on them, the line will jump off the spool in coils.
One disadvantage is when snagged it sometime becomes very difficult to break. Braided line is generally more expensive than monofilament line. Braided line can put more stress on reel parts, rods and line guides causing premature wear and breakage. Braided line may not be the best choice when fishing clear water.
Of the two, braided line is superior on a spinning reel. It is small in diameter, casts far, has no stretch, is incredibly strong, is extremely durable, and, most importantly, has virtually no line memory. All of these attributes make braided line a dream come true for spinning gear.
Braided line can last on your reel for years, so you don`t need to change it out often. However, here are two scenarios when you would need to change it out: A lot of line is frayed. You don`t have that much braid left on your spool.
They are now longer and packed with far more editing tools than before. Unlike Stories, Reels don`t disappear after 24 hours and remain on Instagram until you delete them. Reels are full-screen vertical videos up to 90 seconds long.
The main factor to remember is that the reel is round and rotates clockwise inside the viewer. Hence, some photos will be upside down when looking at it this way, but correct once they have each rotated around the viewer to the correct position where your eyes look through.
Slack fishing line is a big culprit when it comes to line tangles. As you reel in slack line, this creates loose coils on your spool. When you cast, these loose coils will come off the spool quickly compared to the line around it, causing the coils to overlap on themselves as they leave the reel and tangle up.
Spinning Reels

The spinning reel takes time a bit of time to master. It`s easy to get line tangled, it`s more difficult to cast since it involves lifting the bale, holding down a loop of line with your index finger, then whipping the attached rod forward.

Billfish. There`s really no arguing it, billfish (especially blue marlin) are unequivocally some of the hardest fighters pound-for-pound out there. Billfish are known to fight so hard that they`ll even kill themselves on the line using powerful jabs to try and escape being reeled.
When you`re creating an Instagram Reel, look for songs that are popular and trending. If you know of a song that is trending and is likely to go viral online, use that song. If you can`t find a song like that, simply choose one that fits your theme.
