How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

The standard for most crossbows. Durable and safe. Withstands the powerful release of a crossbow. Low (usually no) creep with the recommended number of strands – 26 or 28.
Traditional materials include linen, hemp, other vegetable fibers, hair, sinew, silk, and rawhide. Almost any fiber may be used in emergency. Natural fibers would be very unusual on a modern recurve bow or compound bow, but are still effective and still used on traditional wooden or composite bows.
HOW LONG SHOULD STRINGS LAST? With proper maintenance of the string and the crossbow itself, the string should last a minimum of 100 shots, with several hundred shots not uncommon.
The care and maintenance of your crossbow string is a large factor on how long it will last. A good rule of thumb is to change your crossbow string every 2 years but most seem to go 4-5 years. Q:How many shots will a crossbow string last?
Bow hair is made from horse hair

The bow hair is made of a hank of horsehair. A single violin bow will use between 160 and 180 individual hairs. These hairs are all attached next to each to form a ribbon.

If the strings look ultra fuzzy, frayed, or dry and brittle, then it`s probably time to swap them out for a new set. Some bow manufacturers suggest changing out strings every two to three years, but again, it all depends on your shooting routine.
We recommend changing the string and cables on your crossbow every two years. NOTE: Always replace both the string and the cables when having them changed.
Never “dry fire” (i.e., release a cocked crossbow string without a recommended arrow properly loaded into the receiver) your crossbow. Dry firing a Barnett crossbow will immediately void your warranty and result in catastrophic damage to the crossbow.
As with most vertical bow hunters, effective range for a crossbow is about 40 yards. At this distance most hunters are able to fire a crossbow accurately enough to be lethal. Just like vertical bows, kinetic energy is the name of the game.
Tip #6 – Apply lubricating oil to moving parts that require it. Certain parts on your hunting crossbow like the axles, Dry-Fire-Inhibitor, trigger mechanism, and safety slide should be lubricated at least once per year to ensure proper and smooth functioning.
With proper care, a bowstring should last at least 2,000 shots, and even 3,000 shots doesn`t automatically mean a string will be severely worn.
The most commonly used number of strands is 12 strand B50 string , which provides a balance between size, weight, strength, and nock fit. Bigger 14 strand B50 strings are mostly used on heavier bows as well as where the extra weight of the bowstring acts as a slight damper to make shooting more consistent.
Quite simply, good strings make for good shooting. You want strings that provide plenty of leverage, tension, and resistance so you can let those arrows fly. Premium-level bow strings help you squeeze every bit of speed out of every shot, which can make a big difference when every millisecond counts.
Stringing your bow is not difficult with the proper equipment. It still requires attention and caution, however, to avoid whacking yourself with a bow limb under stress. You can start shooting as soon as you`ve strung the bow, but tuning will help a great deal if your bow is new.
On the other hand, too many twists may reduce performance and may lead to a string which is more prone to stretching with use, or prone to tangling when unstrung.
Reading comments across multiple forums, it appears most limbs on crossbows give out at about 1500-2000 shots. And many people experience failures at as little as 500 with cams and strings. I do a LOT of shooting with my compound and recurve.
If the bowstring looks dry or fuzzy, simple waxing usually resolves the issue. However, if any bowstring strands look frayed or its serving has separated, you might need a new string. Your bowstring might also need replacing if your bow has tuning or performance issues.
Metals, lubricants and polymer components that work fine at room temperatures have a tendency to fail when exposed to severe cold, which is why the U.S. Army located its Arctic Test Center at Ft. Greeley. It`s the same with crossbows.
No. You need a specially made bow press to change the string and cables on your crossbow.
Replacement Crossbow String

You may be able to get a Dacron crossbow string for an older teardrop or recurve-style crossbow in the $20-$40 range. The price of a string for newer bows, using newer bow string materials will be higher, usually in the $30-$50 range.

One of the most important crossbow accessories is the bolt. The bolt is a smaller version of an arrow used for bowhunting. Bolts are often heavier than a regular arrow and a bit fatter but for the most part they are a short arrow. Since the bolt does the dirty work, it is important to have the bolt finely tuned.
Yes. Periodically apply a drop of TenPoint`s Flight Rail and Trigger Lubricant to your wheels or cams and axles when needed. Also, lubricate the cam bearings if you have a reverse draw crossbow, especially if the bow has gotten wet from being outside.
Re: Hunting In The Rain

There is no difference in point of impact. I have hunted with crossbows for over 35 years and have never seen any difference in accuracy. Also I only use feathers for hunting and there is no difference with them as well. Yes feathers look terrible when wet, but they work just as well wet as dry.

Fastest Barnett Crossbow – HyperTac Pro 430. The first thing you notice about the HyperTac Pro is its almost unbelievable speed rating: 430 FPS. This means it`s more accurate than other models even over long ranges, and it produces over 150 foot-pounds of kinetic energy resulting in 25 percent deeper penetration.
