The bow hair is made of a hank of horsehair. A single violin bow will use between 160 and 180 individual hairs. These hairs are all attached next to each to form a ribbon.
If the strings look ultra fuzzy, frayed, or dry and brittle, then it`s probably time to swap them out for a new set. Some bow manufacturers suggest changing out strings every two to three years, but again, it all depends on your shooting routine.
We recommend changing the string and cables on your crossbow every two years. NOTE: Always replace both the string and the cables when having them changed.
Never “dry fire” (i.e., release a cocked crossbow string without a recommended arrow properly loaded into the receiver) your crossbow. Dry firing a Barnett crossbow will immediately void your warranty and result in catastrophic damage to the crossbow.
As with most vertical bow hunters, effective range for a crossbow is about 40 yards. At this distance most hunters are able to fire a crossbow accurately enough to be lethal. Just like vertical bows, kinetic energy is the name of the game.
Tip #6 – Apply lubricating oil to moving parts that require it. Certain parts on your hunting crossbow like the axles, Dry-Fire-Inhibitor, trigger mechanism, and safety slide should be lubricated at least once per year to ensure proper and smooth functioning.
With proper care, a bowstring should last at least 2,000 shots, and even 3,000 shots doesn`t automatically mean a string will be severely worn.
The most commonly used number of strands is 12 strand B50 string , which provides a balance between size, weight, strength, and nock fit. Bigger 14 strand B50 strings are mostly used on heavier bows as well as where the extra weight of the bowstring acts as a slight damper to make shooting more consistent.
Quite simply, good strings make for good shooting. You want strings that provide plenty of leverage, tension, and resistance so you can let those arrows fly. Premium-level bow strings help you squeeze every bit of speed out of every shot, which can make a big difference when every millisecond counts.
Stringing your bow is not difficult with the proper equipment. It still requires attention and caution, however, to avoid whacking yourself with a bow limb under stress. You can start shooting as soon as you`ve strung the bow, but tuning will help a great deal if your bow is new.
On the other hand, too many twists may reduce performance and may lead to a string which is more prone to stretching with use, or prone to tangling when unstrung.

There is no difference in point of impact. I have hunted with crossbows for over 35 years and have never seen any difference in accuracy. Also I only use feathers for hunting and there is no difference with them as well. Yes feathers look terrible when wet, but they work just as well wet as dry.
