When cutting the section to length, always cut towards the centre to avoid splintering the edge when you cut through. Cut part way through the pole, then turn it and cut part way. Repeat until you cut right through. Once you`ve cut all the replacement sections for one pole, fit them before moving on to the next pole.

Tips and Tricks for Cutting Fiberglass Rod
Use a fine-toothed saw: A saw with fine teeth will help prevent the fiberglass material from splintering or cracking. Apply pressure evenly: When cutting through the fiberglass rod, apply even pressure to the saw, rather than using too much force or pressure on one side.
Most Coleman tent poles are made of fiberglass, stored in sections, connected together by a shock cord with two vinyl caps on the ends. Fiberglass poles are a strong-but-cheap option for your tent poles.

ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.

I have stripped the thread in an extendable tent pole.
ANSWER : If you go to any good tool store or engineering store you can get what is known as helecoil insert.just tell them the inside diam of the pole.they will probably put it in for you if yuo take the pole along.hope this will help.regards barry.

I need new poles for Swiss Gear tent # SG33071F
ANSWER : Go to Home depot and buy a tube that fit the pole. Cut it into 5 or 6 inches for the broken areas. It costs me less than 2 dollars. Let me know how it turn out on yours.

How to stabalize four tent poles in an open area.
ANSWER : If you get four sturdy poles (not normal tent poles) then the best thing to do is to stake the four poles into the ground at a 60 degree angle with the top away from the tent and then use the tension created by the angle to support the tarp.

Tent I have a Colunbia Sports Dome tent that has 5 poles. I have lost the directions & not sure which poles go where. Can you help??
ANSWER : Well, you should have Three (3) longer poles and Two (2) shorter. Two (2) of the longer poles will be the basic construction poles. They will basically make an “X” across the top of the tent making the four courners of the tent. The other longer pole with also go across the top of the tent and right through the “X” made by the other two (2). This will push out the sides and make is “dome-like”.
The two (2) shorter poles will go on either side of the enterance. These will hold up the sides of the tent to give you more volume space on the inside. Not exactly nessasary but if you want more than one or two people to fit inside, you’ll need these.
