ANSWER : Your best chance of getting an accurate answer is to take the Serial Number off the rifle and call Winchester directly. Winchester is Notorious for having problems dating some weapons because i believe they had terrible record keeping. Just call customer service and ask to speak to someone who can assist you in finding the year of the weapon they can look directly into the records and tell you year,make,model,caliber,and sometimes what MSRP was at the time the weapon was originally built. ANSWER : The model 290 came out first, in 1965. The 190 came out in 1967. The 290 was made until 1973 and production of the 190 ended in 1980. There were approx. 2,150,000 model 190/290 made through the years.Since yours was made before the middle of the production run, and before 1973, I would guess late 60’s to around 1970 or 1971.

ANSWER : On the left side of the barrel near the frame there should be a code with some letters. that will tell you the date unless it was made before 1921. the value should be about 250-350$ unless it is in really good condition it can be worth more.Thank you,lee
