All the Numbers (1000, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, etc) simply indicate the size of the spool. The bigger the number, the more line you can spool to your fishing reel.
From my experience, Shakespeare makes excellent fishing rods and reels. I have been using Shakespeare products for years and still have the first fishing pole I bought for myself (a Shakespeare) about 6-7 years ago. It is still in fine working order; although, I must admit that it has seen better days.
Features : Capacity mono 250 yds 10lb. Capacity braid 295 yds 20lb.
A medium 4000 size reel is well suited to catching whiting, tailor and bream, while a larger 6000-8000 size reel is better suited to catching fish like salmon and mulloway from the beach.
Generally, a size between 2500(ultralight bass fishing) and 4000 is a good reel size for freshwater bass fishing.
If you`re looking for the best all-around fishing reel for performance and price, the Okuma Ceymar C-30 won`t disappoint. The Okuma Ceymar C-30 has pretty much everything we look for in a reel. It`s lightweight, well-built, and had useful features, like an oversized bail roller that gives it great line control.
The Shakespeare Company is a subsidiary of Pure Fishing which manufactures fishing equipment.
Typically when people think of a 4000 size reel, they think of a bigger, heavier, “do everything” reel. But there is not much difference between the sizing of the 3000 versus the 4000. The body frames appear to be the exact same size and there is only a fraction of an ounce difference in weight.
3000 size – This size reel is ideal when fishing small commercials where a short cast is all that is required. A small 3000 reel won`t help you cast long distances but is perfect for chucks of 30m or less.
For a reel to be considered a “middle of the road” option, it needs to be in the 4000-5500 range. This is medium-size, and it`s perfect for lines ranging between 10 and 14-pound test strength. Rod Pairing: You do not want to mix and match your reel size with your rod size.
Choosing a fishing rod to go with this size reel: A 4000 or 40 reel is where you start to gain a little size so this sized reel will generally suit medium action classes of rods in the 6ft-7ft (barra/snapper style rod) with a line class of around 4Kg-10Kg or in an 8ft-10ft (light surf) rod with a light line class …
With that in mind, and based on my own experience and what I see others using, I can comfortably say that 5000-6000 is the optimal range for surf fishing reels. The size 5000-6000 is large enough to hold 300 yards of most lines used for shore fishing.
For trout and panfish under 3/4oz living in small ponds and streams, a 500–1000-size reel will be adequate. They tend to be lightweight, and they balance well with most ultralight fishing rods.

The smaller Shimano Baitrunner ST 6000 RB reel is ideal for specimen and specialist angling on smaller venues with lighter setups. The ST 10000 RB provides the power for larger fish and longer-range casting. Note: Due to the heavily-discounted price, this reel is not available for interest-free finance.
