1896 – William Shakespeare, Jr., an avid fisherman of 27 years, wanted to improve on existing fishing reels so he came up with a device for winding fishing line evenly back on the spool. William patents the level-wind reel and his new design was superior to anything on the market.
The Shakespeare Company is a subsidiary of Pure Fishing which manufactures fishing equipment.
Shakespeare. One of the most widely available brands, Shakespeare makes fishing gear easily accessible to every angler. Especially for beginners, Shakespeare makes it easy to get out on the water while on a budget and start catching fish.
12. 1887: First Steel Rod. Horton of Bristol, Connecticut, patented the first steel fishing rod on March 8, 1887, changing the course of fishing forever.
Baitcasting Vs Spinning Reels: What`s The Difference? Baitcasting reel is best for more experienced anglers because it takes more practice to use and can be susceptible to tangles. A spinning reel is much easier to use and is a great choice for beginners or those looking for a versatile reel system.
Spincast reels are the easiest to learn and simplest to operate of the three primary styles of casting reels. Generally, they are the least expensive. Spincast (spincasting) reels are identifiable by their “closed face.” That is, the spool containing the fishing line is totally enclosed within the reel itself.
Overall, there are 4 types of reels: spincast, baitcasting, spinning and fly reels. To help you choose the right reel, we listed each of the types of fishing reels and their functional benefits for your fishing style and skill level.
From my experience, Shakespeare makes excellent fishing rods and reels. I have been using Shakespeare products for years and still have the first fishing pole I bought for myself (a Shakespeare) about 6-7 years ago. It is still in fine working order; although, I must admit that it has seen better days.
FACTS: It is stated that Shakespeare imports fishing rods from the People`s Republic of China (China), and that the fishing rods are assembled in China from component parts manufactured in various countries.
Shakespeare, however, had the wit and wisdom to steal plots and ideas from a lot of the plays of that era and top them with better poetry. He also had more insight into characters` feelings and motives, and cleverer handling of light and dark, change of pace, and the weighing up of right and wrong.
He possessed qualities, such as open-mindedness, being hardworking, optimistic, and passionate. He was open-minded because he was creative with his ideas and could take something so small and with little detail and make it into something big and amazing! William Shakespeare was hardworking.
The Schuylkill Fishing Company of Pennsylvania, also known as the State in Schuylkill, was the first angling club in the Thirteen Colonies and remains the oldest continuously operating social club in the English-speaking world.
The use of fishing rods can be traced back to over 4,000 years ago. The first rods were made from six-foot long bamboo, hazel shoots, or sections of a thin tapered flexible wood with a horsehair line attached.
Whether fishermen realize it or not, pros are using baitcast tackle for a very specific reason. Baitcast reels can handle heavier line and actually allow for longer casts than spinning gear in the same size range. Bass anglers regularly use line in the 14- to 17-pound-test range.
Benefits of a Spinning Reel

Because they only need to pull the weight of the fishing line, spinning reels are especially useful for light tackle and bait. Also, spinning reels gives you a more solid construction than the spincast reel, while also giving you more options for line to use.

Braid is the best line for baitcaster because it has virtually zero memory. Hold it up, and you`ll notice that it`s very soft and malleable (so to speak) and doesn`t hold a particular shape. And if it does, you can reshape it fairly easily and quickly.
A longer rod will give you a longer cast. It`s really that simple. If power and action are the same, generally speaking, a 7-foot rod will cast the same lure farther than a 6-foot rod. Now if the lure is light, like 1/8 ounce, it can be a little more managable on a softer shorter rod than a longer rod.
High gear ratio reels | 7.1:1 thru 8.1:1

High gear ratios are best for techniques where taking up slack and bringing a bait back to the boat are critical. Topwaters, jerkbaits, jigs, plastics and even lipless crankbaits warrant the use of a high-speed reel.

7.5:1 Reel – With my 7.5:1 gear-ratio reel, I like to use this reel when I`m fishing single-hook lures like a buzzbait, a spinner bait, bladed jigs and a frog.
7.1:1 to 9.0:1 – This has become the reel speed range we use most often. This reel gets used for Flippin`, Froggin`, deep jigs, swim jigs in warmer weather, soft plastic stickbaits, topwater and late season jerkbaits.
Monofilament has a lower density than fluorocarbon, making it easier to cast. Fluorocarbon is denser and sinks faster, so it`s great for deep-water fishing. Additionally, monofilament is more buoyant and can be a better choice for fishing in shallow waters or areas with heavy vegetation.
If the pressure is too light, backlashes are inevitable. If it is too tight, your casting distance will be greatly reduced. Get the correct setting by tying on the lure you intend to fish with and letting it hang a few inches from the rod tip. Hold the rod at about 2 o`clock and push the thumbar to release the spool.
Arbor Knot is one of the best ways to tie line to the spool of a reel. You basically can do this with mono or fluoro to get a snug connection around your spool so that as you wind it on to the spool of your reel, it doesn`t slip and makes taking up line on a new spool easier.

Penn Spin Reel will not lock after casting
ANSWER : On the front of the spool there is a device to turn to set the drag. Torn it tighter and tighten it until slightly below the breaking point of your fishing line. It isn’t a critical adjustment, it just keeps your line from breaking while trying to land a fish.
