Ignition coils tend to fail because of bad spark plugs or plug wires. If your vehicle`s fuel-to-oxygen mixture is either rich or lean, therefore, your ignition coils may fail prematurely. Additionally, engine heat and vibrations can cause damage to ignition coils.
You can replace a failing ignition coil fairly easily at home, but remember that you`re dealing with high voltages so must disconnect your battery before you start.
If you see the base of the coil when removing the pod from the device, the pod doesn`t have a twist-off base. Pull the old coil out of the pod. Push a new coil into the pod. Replace the pod`s base and refill the pod.
The ignition coil is a device which is capable of generating a high voltage pulse which goes to the spark plug. Coil pack refers to the set of coils used in the engine which do not run a distributor. A computer controls the set of coils. Each coil will supply power to the individual spark plug or a set of spark plugs.
Vibrations can damage ignition coil windings and insulation causing shorts or breaks in the secondary windings. The overheating of ignition coils can hinder their ability to conduct electricity. Wear and tear is a common reason for ignition coils failing.
Replacing one coil might cure the misfire and codes for now, but the other coils could fall prey to the same failure and codes. Replacing all for the coils at a time will save a comeback. This is why some ignition coil manufacturers package coils in sets.

ANSWER : Did you set the Air Gap correctly, it should be .020 inch. If the Air Gap is correct and you cleaned the pickup magnets, you should be getting spark. I have different color coded plastic sheets of the correct thickness to set the Air Gap on different engines. You could use a use a side panel from a plastic soda bottle (Mt Dew, Pepsi, ect) Place it between the Flywheel and the Armature/Ign Coil. Allow the magnets on the Flywheel to pull the Armature/Ign Coil together and then tighten the Armature/Ign Coil bolts. Carefully turn the Engine while pulling the plastic from between the Armature/Ign Coil Pickups. The Armature/Ign Coil is now properly set.

1995 Yamaha Wave Raider 700 Deluxe shuts down during operation at 30 miles per hour as if yoy had removed the lanyard, also noticed display goes out it will turn over all day long but won” restart unless I remove the lanyard and re insert it then it will fire right up. Bad lanyard switch?
ANSWER : Forelectrical, start with the CDI kill signal. Find the Black/Yellow wire in theelectrical box that goes directly from the CDI module to the terminal board.Unplug that wire. Now the lanyard and Stop switch will NOT stop the engine. Theonly way to stop the engine is to apply full choke and starve the engine forair. Now start the engine and see if it runs properly.
If youneed to run longer, either remove the jet pump and drive shaft, or take it tothe launch ramp and test it while backed down into the water, still strapped tothe trailer.IF the engine runs properly with Black/Yellow unplugged, next test is to bypassthe LR-505 Start/Stop module. Reconnect Black/Yellow, and refer to my signaturelinks for details on bypassing the LR-505 module.
Also checkfor pistons, cylinders or engine cooling if they are working.
Hope thiswill help you. Good Luck.
