If the throttle does not completely return the cable may be binding, incorrectly routed, frayed, or corroded, which warrants further investigation. With the bike OFF, twist the trottle open to the stop and let go. Make sure the throttle returns to the closed position quickly and easily.
The easiest way to reset your throttle position sensor is to unhook the negative cable from your battery for up to five minutes or to remove the fuse for your engine control module.
A sticky throttle could be caused by worn cables, lack of lubrication in the cables or the cable getting bound up somewhere in the mechanism. Or it can be caused by an issue with the carburetor or EFI. The cables can bind under the tank or in the handgrip.
You don`t need it. Technically, it`s only required by the government to return the carb to a non-open-throttle position. But there`s actually a massive spring on your carburetor that returns the throttle back to close.
A push/pull throttle is a dual cable throttle operation where the pull cable opens the throttle plates, while the push cable, along with a throttle return spring, closes the throttle plates. The “push” cable is a misnomer as the push cable also pulls.
The easiest way to remove lag is by installing a device on your gas pedal called a throttle response controller. Throttle Response Controllers are blue tooth controlled, inexpensive, and make a big difference in immediate gas pedal response.
The key indicator of stretched cables is a throttle that has too much play, yet has run out of adjustment. So if you find your throttle has excessive play in it, yet you`ve maxed out how far you can adjust it, then it`s time to replace your throttle cables.

With electromotive throttle actuators, the position of the throttle valve is regulated mechanically via the accelerator Bowden cable. The throttle valve electronics forward the position of the throttle valve to the engine control unit as an electrical signal.
The throttle return spring is the part that returns the valve to a closed position. There are two types of throttle return springs: one is attached directly to the carburetor or throttle body, while the other is part of the throttle cable.
How long you can expect your accelerator cable to last will depend in large measure on how often you drive. The more use the accelerator cable gets, the more prone it is to wear and tear. Usually, you can expect to get five years from your accelerator cable before it needs to be replaced.
If the throttle arm doesn`t snap back, or it snaps back “weakly”, then a throttle return spring will need to be added. If you`re unsure about whether you need to add a throttle return spring or not, we suggest adding one to your order just in case.
Dirt or sand inside the throttle housing and in between the throttle tube and the handlebar can cause the throttle to become more difficult to turn, and that can slow your reaction time or lead to arm-pump.

Throttle-by-wire creates harmony between the throttle angle, ignition and fuel, which allows the engine to create more torque and power. Also, throttle-by-wire can better utilize variable valve timing.
Most naturally aspirated gasoline engines have better responsiveness than supercharged or turbocharged engines for engines with similar peak power outputs. However, factors such as improper maintenance, fouled spark plugs or bad injectors can reduce throttle response.
Over time, your engine`s throttle body collects debris that can make your engine idle rough and decrease fuel economy.
The most typical causes of a car not accelerating while driving include a faulty sensor, contaminated fuel or air filters, or a faulty timing belt. Generally, this isn`t something you should ignore.
Push the new cable through the firewall and into the engine compartment. Step 2: Hook the new cable up to the accelerator pedal. Slide the new cable through the slotted hole in the accelerator pedal. Step 3: Reconnect the throttle cable to the retaining bracket.
Make sure that you wipe out any accumulated dust, grime, or debris inside the assembly. For many throttle cables, the cable luber isn`t necessary. If your throttle cable isn`t compatible with your cable luber, you can squirt lube directly into the cable itself.

Spark plug wire boot grounding out on coil, 96 outback 2.5 automatic, just put new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, and new coil on. ran great for two weeks, now spark is jumping out of boot at coil on one wire, put old coil back on and still does it in the same spot. replaced wires again, and still does it in the same spot. seems to do it only under a load. Is my new spark plug on that cylinder bad? Does the coil need some insulation under it? It is the coil that sits right on top of the motor. Any ideas? thanks.
ANSWER : Sparks are high voltage, and will always follow the path of least resistance. If you can visibly see a spark (whether in a lighted area, or in the dark), that means either that a plug wire (or coil wire) is open (non conductive), or your have a carbon track on the surface where the spark can be seen, but most likely you have BOTH problems!

If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance of each wire involved, particularly spark plug wires … which means you must be able to connect to both ends of each wire at the same, and hopefully, FLEX those wires, to be sure they don’t have a break inside that is intermittent (comes and goes)!

I have a problem with my machine, on occasion, not recognizing when I’m starting, and the display will not start. I have to remove one of the batteries or it will stay on forever. When it starts up, it works fine, no complaints whatsoever. But lately, I’ve not been able to use it due to the start-up problem. I put the batteries in, the display comes on, but it will not start up when I begin motion. The control buttons will not work, either. Please inform me what it is I can do to fix this problem.
