When I used the pull cord to start the motor of my lawnmower after priming it the cord whipped out of my hand so fast it injured my wrist. I tried it 3 times (!) and had the same reaction each time. My neighbour thinks it is the timing for the spark plug which he replaced but we do not have the original manual. Model # 944.364381 Craftsman brand lawnmower.Thanks. If you know where we can get a free manual to print off that would be great too.

How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

Why Is Your Lawn Mower Pull Cord Hard To Pull? Your lawn mower pull cord hard to pull is because of the way you pull the cord, the area where your mower is located when you are trying to start it, because it has a blade obstruction, or because of a starter mechanism-related issue.
Snowblower pull cord commonly snaps back because the flywheel shear key has broken. The shear key helps maintain the flywheel crankshaft relationship. When the shear key breaks, the engine timing is off, which causes the pull cord to snap back sharply.
The problem may be in the recoil starter itself. A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. In many cases the recoil starter is easily replaced as a single assembly. DO NOT attempt do take the starter apart.
The operator pulls the rope`s handle or grip. This causes the rope to unwind around the crankshaft and spin it. The spinning motion of the crankshaft cranks the engine. The crankshaft`s motion engages the flywheel, enabling the engine to start.
Not all lawn mower pull ropes are the same: they vary in thickness and length. The wrong thickness will make starting your lawn mower more difficult to start (or could cause a jam inside your mower) if you replace it with the wrong string. Thin cords will fit, but likely rip faster than the right-sized cord.
Electric start (also known as key start or push button start) is a lawnmower feature found on petrol lawnmowers, which allows you to start the engine at the push of a button or the turn of a key instead of pulling a recoil starter rope.
The most common reason for the cord refusing to rewind is a broken or worn out recoil spring. This tiny spring hooks onto the pulley and is stretched out when you pull the cord; when you let go the spring is meant to snap back to its original position.
The only one that can cause the effect is ignition and sufficient gas expansion while a piston is moving up in some cylinder. This gas expansion force must be great enough to overcome the starter motor torque and momentum of the engine rotating masses.
Kickback, the result of a mechanical fault in a cylinder of an engine which fires before the piston reaches the top. The piston then goes backward while the other pistons in the other cylinders are still going upwards.
When the rope`s grip is pulled, the rope uncoils, tensions the spring, engages the clutch and turns the crankshaft, spinning it to crank or start the engine before the end of the pull stroke. The running of the engine then disengages the clutch.
The pull cord is wound around a starter pulley connected to the engine`s flywheel and crankshaft. To start the engine, a user pulls the starter cord to unwind it from the pulley and impart rotation to the flywheel and crankshaft.
POLYDAC PULL CORD – A durable and long-lasting engine starter cord made from industrial quality Dacron Polyester. Designed as a high-end replacement for your lawnmower, snowblower, generator, and any other household appliances or power tools that require a reliable pull rope.
The recoil starter is the pull-start mechanism on the back of the engine that enables you to start your snow blower or lawnmower. The starter cord is also called a starter rope.
Examine the spark plug

A dirty or fouled spark plug can cause your lawn mower to not start. It can also work itself loose, causing issues. If the spark plug appears to be seated correctly but the engine doesn`t start, a new one may be in order. For a few dollars, this easy fix can get your small engine working again.

There are a number of possible causes for a lifeless mower, but ultimately only two things are required for an engine to start: fuel and a spark. If the engine isn`t getting a spark at the plug or fuel isn`t reaching the engine, your lawn mower is never going to start.
Riding mowers can cover ground faster than a person can push a walk-behind mower, and their cutting widths are greater so you`re cutting more grass, faster.
( i v ) From equations (3) and (4), we can conclude that the frictional force on the object being pushed is more than the frictional force on the object being pushed. This makes pulling more easier than pushing. Hence, it is easier to pull than to push a body.
cord. Pulling the cord can damage it and may lead to. fire or electric shock.
Sometimes, when your starter rope will not retract into your leaf blower, it can be because it is jammed between the pulley and the housing, or it is wrapped around the hub. In this case, you will often be able to fix the symptom by simply opening the machine and untangling or removing the rope from where it is stuck.
A lawnmower engine commonly kicks back when the shear key breaks. The shear key commonly breaks because the blade has kit a solid object and come to a sudden stop. Common symptoms of broken shear key include: Engine won`t start.
Kickback occurs when a piston is coming up on top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke at the end of a kickstart attempt but does not make it all the way. Instead, the compression pushes the piston back down the cylinder in the reverse direction.
Essentially when a piece of wood touches the blade on an angle or gets bumped out of alignment it catches the blade in the teeth and gets thrown back. The most effective way to avoid kickback on a table saw is by using a riving knife. Most table saws have these installed right behind the blade.
What Is power tool kickback, anyway? The Power Tool Institute defines kickback as “sudden and interrupted movement of the tool or workpiece [… which is] typically caused by binding or pinching of the workpiece.”
A pullstring (pull string, pull-string), pullcord (pull cord, pull-cord), or pullchain (pull-chain, pull chain) is a string, cord, or chain wound on a spring-loaded spindle that engages a mechanism when it is pulled. It is most commonly used in toys and motorized equipment.

ANSWER : There is a small idling mixture screw on the side of the carburettor. As the engine is not well suited to the carb. it mainly runs on the idle setting! As long as you are not leaving the choke on. This is a little tab on the top of the carb. You start with it set on C then soon set it on the middle position, and after about 3 mins turn it off.

Craftsman snow blower wheels wont move. Help!
ANSWER : If it is a 5.5 HP dual stage, like mine, it could be that the belt has popped off the friction pulley. If you drain the gas, tip the unit on its “face” and remove the large shield on the bottom you will see a 3″ pulley attached to the drive shaft. There will also be what looks like a fan belt floating around in there. That fan belt nees to go on the pullet, as it serves as the friction disk tio drive the wheels. Good luck. this happens to mine ALL the time. very frustrating. 🙁

I have an old (10-15 yrs) Craftsman Snowblower, equipped with a Tecumseh Snow King 4 cycle, 5 hp engine that hasn’t run in over three years due to having been stored. I emptied the tank and put in fresh gas and it started and ran until I put it under heavy load. It stalled and I have not been able to start it since. Any advice for a do it yourselfer. I am looking at the spark plug and the air filter, but cannot locate the air filter. Thanks in advance
ANSWER : You are on the right track. Do check the air cleaner, and also check your oil level and condition. If the oil’s been in there for 3 years, I’d change it.Also pull the carb off the motor, and get a spray can of carb spray cleaner and clean the bowl, needle valve, around the float, and in any ports, jets, etc. Drain a bit of the gas out and check to make sure you’ve got gas flowing, that it’s clean and not blocked.Look in the carb bowl…make sure it’s not full of sediment, water etc… Spray all the carb linkage and make sure it’s all working freely. While you’re at it, use the spray cleaner to spray off the tip of the spark plug, and use some fine sandpaper to clean up the electrode. Then pull the motor thru with the spark plug out , but still attached to the spark plug wire and check for spark. If no spark, replace with a new one. If it’s an older style ignition, it may even have contact points that youll need to clean and regap..

No spark, may have put the wrong spark plug in what type should this have: Craftsman 2100 watt generator
ANSWER : Hello. The best way to be sure that you have the correct sparkplug is to go to any auto parts store or small engine repair shop with the brand name, and model of your generator. That way they can cross reference everything and then you will be set. That said, the most common reason for no spark in a generator is either a safety device gone bad, or a coil gone bad. Regards, Joe
