Our favourite is Loctite Super Glue All Plastics. This specialty super glue is designed for plastics, including the hard-to-bond-to polypropylene and polyethylene. It comes with an activator which you apply first and need to allow to dry for 60 seconds.
Spread super glue over the plastic
Squeeze glue over the area you wish to reinforce. The glue should form a visible layer over the area. If you are reinforcing a crack, make sure there`s glue around the crack too. The further you spread the glue, the bigger the reinforced area will be.
Plastic Welding with Heat
If you have two separate pieces of plastic that need to be joined or if you have a crack, then you`ll need to do some plastic welding. The basic idea is to apply heat to the edges being joined in order to melt the plastic until it is liquid enough to blend the edges together.
Epoxy is a great choice when it comes to bonding plastics, as it will create a strong adhesive bond. Epoxy adhesives augment the structural strength of the plastic and also, provide chemical resistance.
Glass and Carbon
Carbon and glass are commonly used material additives that add structural integrity, toughness, and rigidity to a thermoplastic. They are helpful when a part needs to support weight or endure a harsh environment for extensive periods.
Melting, twisting, or burning of plastic under high temperature causes the material to deform. On the other hand, extreme cold temperature can cause the plastic to get brittle. Chemical Failure: Excessive exposure to any chemical can lead to plastic failure.
Many plastics can be welded such as acrylic or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PETE or PET), polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile-butadiene-Styrene (ABS).
