15-30 minutes on your elliptical machine per day is enough to maintain your wanted weight or even lose more.
You can estimate the number of walking-equivalent steps you take when exercising at a moderate pace on an elliptical machine by multiplying the number of minutes you exercise by 203. For example, training on the elliptical for 30 minutes equals about 6,090 steps.
For that same reason, those who have a completely sedentary lifestyle should start off by using the elliptical machine for 10 minutes a day, three times a week, and slowly work their way up to 30-minute workouts, five times a week, recommends Mason.
Is the Elliptical or Walking Lower Impact? The elliptical puts far less stress on your joints than walking. In fact, according to a 2014 study(2), the stress put on your body with each step while walking is about 110% of your body weight, but only 75% of your body weight when on the elliptical.
Beginner Elliptical Workout

Warm up at a comfortable pace. Keep the resistance or ramps low. Increase the resistance and/or ramps one to four increments, or until you`re working harder than your warm-up pace. You should feel you`re working, but you should be able to carry on a conversation.

A 155-pound person can burn around 335 calories after 30 minutes of working out on the elliptical, according to Harvard Health Publishing. However, a person with the same weight will burn only around 149 calories after 30 minutes of walking.
Burns a lot of calories

If you`re looking for a way to crush your calorie burn in a short amount of time, jump on the elliptical. Depending on how much you weigh, this cardio machine can burn about 270–400 calories in 30 minutes (1).

If you want, you can use the elliptical trainer to exercise every day. But I suggest that it is most appropriate for you to exercise on it for 150 minutes every week. In other words, an average of 30 minutes of exercise every day, five days a week, is enough.
Compared to an elliptical, stair climbers focus more on burning calories and the lower body, but ellipticals work out most of the major muscle groups, particularly your core muscles. On an elliptical, you`ll burn more calories.
Aim for 90 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute)

Running speed is a combination of stride length and stride rate (cadence). Most runners will average 170-185 steps per minute. Runners want to mimic their normal cadence when using the elliptical for cross-training. Aim for an 85-90 RPM when using the elliptical.

Stride length and stride rate (cadence) are the two factors that determine running speed. The average runner takes 170-185 steps per minute. People running on elliptical for cross-training purposes should strive to mimic their usual cadence. If you are using the elliptical machine, aim for an RPM of 85-90.
If you`re warming up for a strength-training workout on the elliptical, you should ride for five to 20 minutes, Thornhill says. But if you want to really maximize the cardio benefits of the machine, it`s best to stay on for at least 15 minutes, or at most an hour, he says.
“The elliptical machine can be a beneficial form of exercise for people with knee and hip arthritis because it provides both strengthening and cardiovascular benefits while exerting less force on the joints,” says Maura Daly Iversen, professor of public health and human movement sciences and dean of the College of …
You burn more calories on an elliptical machine. An average (160 lb. person) someone exercising for an hour on an elliptical machine burns 365 calories compared to 314 calories burned while walking. An elliptical machine puts far less stress on the hips and knees joints.
Shorts spurts of going backwards on the elliptical are like surprises for your body, and therefore a better workout. Using the elliptical forwards works your gluts and hamstrings, while backward works your calves and quads. There is also a great cardio burst from working backwards.
Generally, after 2-3 months of a regular elliptical routine, you can see your first results. But remember that consistency is where you see the best results.
2 Looking at METs, elliptical activity is roughly equivalent to brisk walking: Light intensity elliptical training: 4.6 METs, aligns with walking 3.75 mph, or 127 steps per minute. Moderate intensity elliptical training: 4.9 METs, aligns with walking 4.0 mph, or 132 steps per minute.
1-Hour Elliptical Workout

If you have more ambitious fitness goals and want to see more substantial results in a shorter amount of time, then an hour-long elliptical session should do the trick. Compared to its half-hour counterpart, the longer duration of this exercise routine will allow you to burn more calories.

Elliptical trainers can help burn calories, reduce belly fat and tone the body. When used properly, an elliptical trainer works the entire body and can engage the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, chest, back, triceps and biceps.
The elliptical does not build muscle as there is little mechanical tension or metabolite build-up to satisfy the key mechanisms of muscle growth.
The elliptical machine doesn`t target the stomach directly but it does help burn calories, which is necessary to lose body fat, by giving you a full body aerobic workout. To add focus on the stomach, it`s best to include abdominal strengthening exercises alongside your elliptical workout.
Moderate intensity exercise on the elliptical exercise machine is very effective for burning thigh fat and slim thighs. A moderate-intensity elliptical exercise machine workout can keep your heart rate at 50-70% of your maximum vigorous exercise.
Boosts Cardiovascular Health

Spending 20-30 minutes on the elliptical will help increase the heart rate, which helps strengthen the heart muscles. The elliptical machine can also be used for High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts.

Targeted muscles: Ellipticals target more muscles than treadmills. Unlike treadmills, ellipticals have handlebars that you have to exert force to move back and forth, allowing for upper-body movement. That means, with higher resistance levels, you can get a total-body, cardio workout on an elliptical.

How to access batter on kettler condor elliptical machine?
ANSWER : If you look behind the unit, (directly behind the digital readout) you’ll see a small rectangular inset, if you look up in that (I used my cell phone light), you’ll see a tab that you can pry with a screwdriver gently to release the computer section. Just keep one hand on top, when you pry it you’ll feel the unit pop up, then you can lift it out. It takes 2 AA batteries, thankfully not some bizarre disk batteries :)Btw when you look at the readout, you’ll notice it’s set in a silver square- that square is the computer module that pops out.Hope this helps!

Loud banging noise when using the Kettler elliptical trainer, ctr
ANSWER : This is a common problem for the CTR1, it actually sounds a lot worse than it is. It’s just one of the 4 bolts that hold the front “pole” of the CTR1 in place that is broken. You will need to unscrew the bolts at the base (just move the plastic piece that hides the bolts up on the “pole”). After removing the pole you will need to remove the broken bolt from the inside of the “pole” with plyers. Then just put the pole back in the base, replace the screws (be sure to tighten them good). All will be good :)This is a weak point of the CTR1, be prepared to run into the same problem again down the road…
