Each end of the pole should fit onto a fastener or pocket along the exterior of your tent, near the ground. Repeat with the cross pole, then the additional support poles until the tent is fully popped up and accessible.
Freestanding tents function just as their name implies: The tent bodies can hold their shape on their own without needing to be staked out. These designs receive their support from included tent poles and can be picked up and moved around camp without going limp.
Some brands produce their own pole kits to suit their tents. But for the most part, there are all interchangeable with the only variants being the material and the adjustable lengths.
Check your tape measure, the smallest number of mm you can see will be the size above what you need (e.g. if you can see 9mm, but not 8mm – your pole will be 8.5mm diameter). For the very small sizes of pole less than 7.9mm replacement sections are not stocked. These will need to ordered from the tent manufacturer.
The easiest and quickest way to fix a broken pole is with a pole repair sleeve. Also called a splint, this short tube is often provided with your tent. If not, buy one and pack it with you. A good pole repair sleeve is just slightly larger in diameter than your pole so that it doesn`t move around too much.
The basic ridge tent

This is the classic tent shape that a child might draw. It has a pole at each end and sometimes a cross pole – the ridge – holding up a tent-shaped roof, hence the name. Ridge tents are remarkably stable and range from tiny one-person tents right up to large marquees.

A freestanding tent is a tent that stays upright using only its tent poles. That is, freestanding tents don`t need to be staked down or have guylines attached to remain standing.
Pole Tents require drilling into the concrete and use of concrete anchors where we attach eye bolts (instead of stakes) to attach our ratchet straps. Frame Tents can be anchored with concrete anchors (like Pole Tents) or by the use of barrels which alleviates the need to drill (additional charge per barrel).
The skeleton of the tent – the poles or air tubes. Basically, there are two main types of tent pole: Bendy ones and rigid ones. Bendy ones are more flexible and usually lighter, rigid ones are generally more robust and heavy-duty.
Poles. Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) – also known as fibreglass –is a popular material for tent poles because it is relatively cheap to produce, lightweight and bends easily around the curves of a tent.
There are two main types of commercial tents: frame tents and pole tents. Frame tents are supported by an aluminum or steel frame, and they don`t require stakes or Guy lines to be set up. Pole tents, on the other hand, are supported by wooden or aluminum poles, and they need to be staked or guyed into place.
Poles are an important part of any tent – they hold up your tent.
There are many different materials for tent poles on the market, among which steel pipe elastic steel, glass fiber, and aluminum alloy are the main materials for tent poles, but tent poles made of these materials have different characteristics.
An aluminum tent pole may bend but not break, similar to a fiberglass tent pole. If the aluminum bends with too much force, fiberglass poles will crack and splinter. Splinters coming from fiberglass can hurt anyone and is dangerous. More importantly, an aluminum tent pole can be repaired when bending.
2. Fix a broken tent pole. Generally, tent poles are pretty robust, but should you arrive at the campsite to find that one of yours is damaged, find a suitable stick and use your duct tape to attach it to the damaged pole for extra reinforcement.
Carbon fiber tent poles

Carbon fiber tent poles are the best material you can get a tent pole in! They are the strongest, most durable, and lightest tent poles available.

Geodesic or Semi-Geodesic Tents

The overlapping tent construction creates a very stable structure. They are almost always freestanding. Geodesic tents are also usually a round shape as this allows rain, wind, and snow to go over the tent.

The most popular tent pole materials are fibreglass and aluminium. Both provide excellent performance, but there are trade-offs for each.
Tent size based on how many guests you have means you must take the seating chart into consideration. Guest calculations use the standard of 8 guests per 60 inch round dining table. For every eight guests, you need a 10-foot by 10-foot area (100 square feet).
There is considerable range in the size of 8-person tents, from 130 square feet to 108 square feet. The use of 8-person in tents is meant to describe how many average-sized people could sleep in a tent if floor space was maximized.
One person can easily put up an instant tent depending on its size and design. If the tent is a 6- to 10-person tent, it can be harder to set up and install the rainfly. However, if the design of the tent is simple enough, one person can probably still manage it.
