The top number on the plate is the serial number, and the number directly beneath it is the four-digit year of manufacture.

The Mariner was last sold in 2011, when Ford decided to discontinue the Mercury brand due to declining sales. The Mercury Mariner is very similar to the Ford Escape, but the Mariner has more upscale features. As Mariners are already a decade old, they only retain 15% to 25% of their original value.

The engine number is found on the body of the car`s engine. Car manufacturers ensure that the number is clearly visible. It is imprinted on a metal sticker and placed in such a way that it is easy to see when you open the hood.
The engine number is a six digit number that follows a three digit engine code. You may notice that the engine number includes three digits followed by six more digits. The first three digits are your vehicle`s engine code and the last six digits are your vehicle`s engine number.

1985 40 hp Johnson outboard wouldnt open up and
ANSWER : Sounds like your mix is off and it’s fowling the plugs. probably too rich. make sure the level in your carb bowls isn’t too high. Really sounds like you should clean and bench set your carbs. Especially if a plug change helps but doesn’t last, then it’s got to be your fuel mix, or maybe timing.
