REMINGTON DATES OF MANUFACTURE

Remington made use of a two or three letter Firearms Identification Code that can be located on the left side of the barrel, just ahead of the frame. The first letter of the code identifes the month, the other letter(s) identify the year.

The Remington Model 700 is a series of bolt-action centerfire rifles manufactured by Remington Arms since 1962.
As mentioned earlier, Remington guns are well worth more now than they ever have been in the past. Whether you`re a collector or a shooter, these guns are sure to hold their value for many years to come.
22 Long and . 22 Long Rifle cartridges. Ammunition is supplied by a tubular magazine under the barrel which holds 15-22 rounds depending on the cartridge used.
In 2015, the Freedom Group was renamed as Remington Outdoor Company. Remington filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2018, having accumulated over $950 million in debt. Remington exited bankruptcy in May 2018, less than two months after filing for protection under Chapter 11 laws.
The . 22 Short was the first of the . 22 rimfire cartridges and is the oldest American commercial self-contained metallic cartridge. It was introduced in 1857 for the Smith & Wesson First Model revolver and intended for serious self-defense.
Where: On rifles, the serial number should be visible above the line of the stock and stamped into the receiver. This may be done on either side of the receiver or on top, at the manufacturer`s discretion.
The Model 1 was referred to as the “noisy noiseless” because it has the noiseless mechanism, also referred to in a 1937 Remington pamphlet as the “Remington Speed Mechanism” although this model didn`t have the small weights that pressed the normally noiseless typebars against the platen.
THE MODEL 700® A LEGEND FORGED IN STEEL. 60 YEARS OF UNRIVALED PERFORMANCE. It`s the number one bolt-action of all time, proudly made in the U.S.A. Since 1962, more Model 700s have been sold than any other bolt-action rifle before or since.
The Model 700 is known for its accuracy, so when a customer brings one in and says it shoots all over the paper, there is a good chance there`s a problem with the rifle. A quick check of the muzzle will show if the crowning or the rifling at the muzzle is damaged.
Eliphalet Remington II moved his barrel making operation from the forge site down to 200 acres alongside the new Erie Canal. This is the location of the present Remington factory in Ilion, New York.
The Remington 700 CDL is a premium hunting rifle based on the traditional design of the Model 700, which was introduced in 1962. It`s hailed as an incredibly accurate and dependable rifle, making it one of the most favored guns among hunters and collectors.
While the 22lr is accurate and easy to shoot it does fail to penetrate adequately. The 9mm, on the other hand, was specifically designed as a combat cartridge. As the standard round for the US Military and NATO, it is much larger and powerful than the 22lr.
As you know, most shooting with rifles chambered for the . 22 Long Rifle cartridge is done at 25 yards or 50 metres, and the NSRA only provide targets for distances up to 100 yards. In fact, 100 yards is still “short range” for the . 22LR cartridge.
Remington sold off its assets in 2020 after filing for bankruptcy a second time. The Remington brand still exists today, but does it still make guns?
22 caliber bullet can travel around 1 mile to 1 1/2 miles. Some bullets, such as a 9 mm may travel up to three miles. Shot travels a shorter distance between 200 and 600 yards.
Currently the 22 LR ammo that strikes the best balance of bullet weight and muzzle velocity to achieve the greatest power is CCI`s Stinger 22 LR Ammo. This round has a 32 grain CPHP bullet loaded to a muzzle velocity of 1,640 fps. The hyper-velocity Stinger cartridge boasts a whopping 191 ft lbs of muzzle energy.
22LR ammunition doesn`t have a specific shelf life. It`s not time that degrades the ammunition but rather how it is stored. As long as the rounds are stored correctly, it will last. This is the same for any calibre ammunition as shelf life does not differ depending on the bullet size.
Lawsuits and mismanagement brought about bankruptcy and an eventual shut down at production facilities. Thankfully, the Remington brand survived and has recently been resurrected. However, firearms and ammunition are now separate entities. For information on the current lineup of Remington firearms, visit remarms.com.
As U.S. Gun Sales Spike, Remington Files For Bankruptcy The company, which has been making guns in the U.S. since 1816, filed for Chapter 11 protection in federal court in Alabama as it seeks to restructure amid ongoing legal and financial challenges.
History. Most individual manufacturers habitually put serial numbers on the weapons they produce. Such numbers can be used to ascertain the name of the manufacture, place and date of manufacture.
Model numbers or names are often stamped or engraved on the barrel or slide, often along with the Make. In some cases, the Model will also be represented as a prefix or other portion of the pistol`s serial number, or may be stamped on the frame in less obvious locations (e.g., under the grip panels).
The first typewriter had no shift-key mechanism—it wrote capital letters only. The problem of printing both capitals and small letters without increasing the number of keys was solved by placing two types, a capital and lowercase of the same letter, on each bar, in combination with a cylinder-shifting mechanism.
The Sholes and Glidden typewriter (also known as the Remington No. 1) was the first commercially successful typewriter. Principally designed by the American inventor Christopher Latham Sholes, it was developed with the assistance of fellow printer Samuel W. Soule and amateur mechanic Carlos S.

The following is Wisner’s rendition & info on the subject.
The difference in the old firing pin and the new one is as follows. The old replaced
style, was totally lathe tuned (round). While the new recall style is similar in lathe
turning on the front and back, but in the front midsection it has two flats milled, one
on each side. This makes the center section stronger. Also replaced is the bolt sleeve
lock pin (firing pin guide) which was made to accommodate this different shaped firing
pin
Part number for the new parts are, firing pin =1391ND, bolt sleeve locking pin =1491ND
The word was at the time this recall was in process was that if the firing pin would
break at the mid section and still remain in the gun as two pieces, the possibility of a
premature discharge before the bolt was locked was possible. This apparently was caused
by the firing pin tip (now not having a retracting spring) to be stuck forward, and
thereby slam-firing upon chambering.
The responsibility for the recall apparently was on Olin, as they were the parent company
at time of manufacture. Olin set up regional recall centers at three established US
gunshops. There was a manufacturing delay in the replacement firing pins, and a backlog
occurred, also some collectors did not like the idea of shipping their guns long
distances. Olin then also authorized other gunshops to make the required alterations.
Upon completion of the recall, the shops were to test fire the firearm and to stamp an
assigned letter on the inside top of the receiver as seen thru the magazine well with the
bolt retracted. The letter “B” represented Bolsa Gunsmithing, “L” was Lefever, and “N”
was for Nu-line Guns. The letter “X” apparently was for all the other independent shops.
However this identification information did not get communicated to some of the smaller
shops at the start of the project. The only way to tell if the gun as been modified, if
the ”letter” is not present, is to take the barrel & action out of the stock, remove the
trigger guard assembly and the try to rotate the firing pin by twisting it. If it does
NOT rotate, then the firing pin recall HAS been performed.
