I have an 2004 atv Arctic cat 400 auto. I ran in a hot day and my o-h light was on but the fan did not start before. He started very late and he got off with the o-h light still on. I made the road remaining (~10 miles) at high speed to vent the radiator always with the o-h light on. Was it dangerous for my motor/transmission and where is the problem?
Experienced athletes share their insights in answering this question:
Yes it was bad to run the engine hot. When the light came on you should shut the macine off and take it an authorized repair facility as soon as possible. Your problem could be electrical or something as simple as the radiator is low on coolant or the cooling fins are clogged with dirt and wont allow air to pass through them. In any case you should take the machine to an authorized repair facility that will warrant their work and use good parts to fix the problem.
How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

If this light turns on, it means that your vehicle has detected that the coolant temperature is too high. This indicates that your engine is likely overheating. If your engine is overheating, it is recommended to pull your vehicle over to a safe place and turn off the engine for at least 20 minutes.
The engine temperature warning light, which looks like a thermometer or simply the word “TEMP,” illuminates when your vehicle`s engine has exceeded the recommended maximum temperature. Because an overheated engine can result in major damage that`s often irreparable, you should take action right away.
Besides hot weather and strenuous activity, other causes of heat exhaustion include: Dehydration, which lessens your body`s ability to sweat and keep a normal temperature. Alcohol use, which can affect your body`s ability to regulate your temperature.
How long can a car overheat before damage occurs? It only takes 30-60 seconds of overheating for permanent damage to infiltrate a vehicle. As soon as you notice signs of overheating, you need to act. Failure to do so might result in troubles like coolant leaks, damaged radiator caps, and a faulty cooling fan.
You can only drive an overheating car about a quarter-mile or 30-60 seconds. If you notice any of the warning signs mentioned above, it`s not advisable to continue your journey. Instead, you should call a recovery truck and get towed to a local garage for a repair.
Driving your car when it`s overheating can cause serious – and sometimes permanent – damage to your engine, so it`s best to stop driving as soon as possible. Pull over and away from oncoming traffic, then turn off the engine. Open your hood (or call for help).
Technically speaking yes you can use plain water in your cooling system but it isn`t recommended as a long term solution and certainly not in extreme weather conditions.
If your temperature warning light has come on or there`s steam coming from your bonnet, pull over in a safe place as soon as possible, turn off your engine, and get all passengers away from the car and road.
That said, a severely overheating engine can cause the cylinder walls or the pistons themselves to warp, bend and deform. This will cause the perfect seal between the piston and the rest of the engine to lose integrity. Oil could be forced past the piston rings and into the engine, where it will burn the oil.
The reason why your engine overheats very quickly is that it isn`t getting the coolant released by the thermostat in a timely manner. An engine can get too hot, again, within 15 minutes after you started. If the thermostat isn`t releasing the coolant, the engine will overheat.
Can an engine survive overheating? Yes – as long as you respond quickly and don`t let your car go into full meltdown mode, it should be repairable. Too much heat can result in further complications, such as cracks leading to significant oil leaks or loss of performance.
Under normal circumstances, it takes a minimum of 30 minutes for an overheated engine to cool down to a temperature where it is safe to inspect it and potentially work on it.
If you don`t have coolant available, you should top up your radiator with the highest quality water that you have. Ideally, this would be distilled water. You can also use bottled water or tap water.
If your coolant level is too low (below or near the lower mark), top it up using a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze (for normal driving conditions), or pour pre-mixed antifreeze straight into the reservoir. You can use clean tap water in an emergency, but antifreeze should be added as soon as possible.
To top up your engine`s coolant, you can simply open the reservoir cap (be careful the engine is not too hot and use a cloth wrapped around the cap to open it, as there could be some residual pressure left in the system) and add to the fluid level – what you use to do this is very important though.
Many people know that when it`s freezing outside, their radiator needs antifreeze or engine coolant. And now you know that antifreeze and coolant are basically the same thing and can be generically referred to as radiator fluid.
Your coolant is arguably the single most important fluid you`ll find under the hood of your car, and for a good reason: without it, your engine wouldn`t make it more than just a few minutes without suffering a catastrophic breakdown, even including irreparable damage.
It`s usually noticed if your coolant is low, but low oil can also cause the engine to overheat. This can occur even if your coolant level is fine. If there is too little oil in the engine, it will continue to heat up because it has no opportunity to cool.
If you find that you`ve got a car running hot but not overheating there might be a few reasons: Clogged or damaged radiator. Low coolant level. Damaged water pump or thermostat.
As temperature of an engine exceeds 230 degrees Fahrenheit, the engine is overheated. Above 245 degrees Fahrenheit, damage may occur.
Prognosis/Possible Complications. If you avoid heat stroke, recovering from heat exhaustion usually takes 24 to 48 hours. Depending on the severity of heat exhaustion, you may be hospitalized so doctors can monitor your fluid and electrolyte levels to avoid complications.
Your car should not jerk around, surge forward, or stall when you apply the gas, and if it does, chances are that your engine is well on the way to failure. Performance issues always signal a deeper problem, and in this case, that problem can be worn out spark plugs, clogged fuel lines, or even failing pistons.
Depending upon your response time to your engine overheating, it can mean the difference between $100 to $6,000. With repair costs gaps that big, you can see why it`s essential to watch your engine temperature at all times.

Trying to install a new fluro light, pull out old light to find 3 reds and 3 blacks 1 copper earth. What do I do to connect it up the right way??? When I pulled the old Fluro light out the 3 Reds were joined together with a connector ,two blacks were joined to one end of light wire, the other to the other end of the light wire, earth wire to the light case, the third black wire was connected to the wire from the ballast? Does this all make sense
ANSWER : No, this does not make sense but I have seen strange wiring before. There is power going from the light someplace else. Just connect it back up exactly as the old light was connected. It worked before so it will work again. If it works it is wired correctly. Without being there to check which wire was the hot wire and which was neutral it is impossible for me to say what is what. Make sure you connect the ground wire to the light chassis.

I have a wildwood le 25bhbs and the only towing lights working are my signal lights. can’t get running lights or brake lights to work. I saw where it looked like the towing harness may have been pinched. So I repaired that, but, they still do not work. Any ideas? Is there a fuse somewhere I need to check? Do I need to hook the trailer up to my trailer hitch before they will work? Is there a wiring diagram or repair manual somewhere I can get? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
ANSWER : There should be an inline fuse, check that first.

Had entire spa light replaced 2 mos ago. Now color does not work. Light is “stuck” on white. Doesn’t seem that the color wheel is moving. Service that replaced light only gave me 30 day warranty on light. It was installed 12-13-2010. Any ideas on what to try?
ANSWER : You haven’t said what exact model you have so i can’t be sure but , in the models with rotating screens, the first part that fails is the coloured wheel – the heat deforms it , it bends out of shape and blocks the rotation. You will need to open the system and see if you can rotate the wheel by hand. If you can’t you need a new wheel. If the wheel can be moved by hand you will need to check if the motor gets powered when you try to change colours. If it gets powered but it doesn’t move then the motor is dead. If it doesn’t then the control board is faulty – replace the failed part.
