All that aside, most fly reels come set up for left-hand retrieve, but changing them to right-hand retrieve is usually a snap. If you have the manual for the reel, the directions are in there. If you don`t have the manual, go to the manufacturer`s website to see if you can download a new manual.
A Left Hand Retrieve will place the handle of the reel on the left side of the rod for your left hand to reel up the line. Right Hand Retrieve will place the handle of the reel on the right side of the rod for your right hand to reel up the line. Always reach out to us if you have any questions!
Depending on the type of spinning reel you have, changing from Left to Right Hand retrieve is fairly simple. Some reels have a direct drive, screw in handle type, but most have a simple screw in pin system that is easy to swap over.
Changing Reel from Left-Handed to Right-Handed
Unscrew the reel handle on the right side of the reel by turning the handle in a counter-clockwise direction. Insert the reel arm into the left side of the reel where the dust cap was just removed, and tighten by turning the reel counter-clockwise.
Not all fly reels have an anti-reverse bearing since it makes them heavy and messes with the drag setting. A few reels, such as the Tibor anti-reverse fly reel, feature this bearing.
Just like spinning, if you are right-handed (casting and holding the rod in the right hand) use a reel that has the crank handle on the left side (labeled as “left-handed”). Left-handed anglers should choose a baitcasting reel with the crank handle on the right side (labeled as “right-handed”).
Ask a saltwater guide and 95% of them will tell you the correct way is to always reel with your dominant hand. Ask a trout fisherman and most will say you should reel with the hand opposite your casting hand, because that way you don`t have to switch hands in the middle of fighting a fish to reel.
Yes, modern fly fishing reels are designed to be reversible. The method of switching reeling direction varies by manufacture. Righthanded freshwater fly fishers will traditionally cast with the right-hand and reel with the left-hand.
ANTI-REVERSE SWITCH This feature is typically located at the bottom of the reel and can be a helpful tool when fighting fish. This switch allows you to backreel, or reel in reverse, rather than relying on your drag system for line tension.

Can you help? It is an old Ariens mower but still runs good but now I need to bypass the safety switch in order to run it any longer. The local Ariens dealer said I need to go through the internet and get the wire diagram as they cannot give it to me directly. Thank you. Roger Fielitz
ANSWER : Here is owner manual:http://apache.ariens.com/manuals/030305C.pdfusually the switch is behind the ignition, sometimes at the N position of gearshift, just look for a switch with one wire coming in & one going out (usually the same color); disconnect the two wires & jumper them together to bypass the switch. Looks like yours has one under the seat.

Penn Spin Reel will not lock after casting
ANSWER : On the front of the spool there is a device to turn to set the drag. Torn it tighter and tighten it until slightly below the breaking point of your fishing line. It isn’t a critical adjustment, it just keeps your line from breaking while trying to land a fish.
