This is often the sign of a slipping drive belt. The Drive/Motor belt is located under the motor housing cover and if it becomes too loose it can slip. This in turn can cause the running belt to slow or stop.
If your treadmill belt keeps moving to one side, it is most likely due to an imbalance of tension. To fix this, determine which side the belt slips to. Locate the rear bolt on that side. Turn the machine on to 3 MPH and using the proper wrench rotate the bolt in quarter turns to the right until the belt re-centers.
Slipping can be the result of a loss of belt tension (or a weak automatic tensioner) or pulley misalignment. When the belt slips off the track, the friction between the belt and accessory drive pulleys causes the belt to overheat. If you hear a high pitched squealing noise, it`s probably time for a switch.
If the belt starts to slip, the battery can discharge over time. A discharging battery is more likely to happen at night when your lights are on or in the winter when you`re running the heat in your car.
How Tight Should the Belt Be? To check if your belt is too tight or too loose, you need to lift it up by the sides at the center of the frame. You should be able to lift the belt by approximately 2 or 3 inches. If not, the belt is too tight.
Proper belt lubrication will help keep you treadmill in optimum condition and reduce needed repairs over time. We recommend you lubricate your treadmill once every three month using one ounce of lube per each application.
If the belt is worn (dry, cracked, glazed) it can slip on acceleration and make a squealing sound. Also, if any of the pulleys on the alternator, p/s pump, etc, are worn or loose, they can cause the belt to squeal.
The cost of the serpentine belt itself could be around $50 and the cost of labor could be around $150. As a result, a serpentine belt cost for replacement could range from $70 to $200 depending on your exact model and where you get it replaced.
Question: Can you over-tighten a treadmill belt tension? Answer: Most definitely. When it comes time to adjusting the walking belt tension, it`s very important to not “over tighten” the tension bolts because it can cause damage to the walking belt. It`s recommended to only adjust the belt in 1/4 turn increments.
Can I overlubricate my treadmill? Yes, you most certainly can! Start small, you can always add more. Overlubrication can cause a number of issues. First, the excess lube will be flung out from under your belt at high speeds, your carpet, walls, and anything surrounding your machine could become soaked with silicone.
to spend less money than you did before because you have less money: I`ve had to tighten my belt since I stopped working full-time.
An over-tightened belt can burn out any bearing that the belt rotates on, including alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, idler pulleys, etc. An over-tightened timing belt can ruin any pulley bearing it is connected with.
Look in the manufacturer`s instruction manual (hard copy or online) for how loosen the treadmill belt so you can lift it and apply the lubricant. Use WD-40 Specialist Silicone or the manufacturer recommended lubricant and spray underneath the belt as you lift, repeating the process on both sides of the machine.
LIQUID WRENCH Silicone Spray Lubricant can provide a super slippery coating for plastic surfaces like treadmill decks. We only recommending using silicone spray after contacting the manufacturer and confirming that your specific model can use a general purpose silicone lubricant.
Treadmill Maintenance

A dry deck is the most common problem to controller and drive motor damage and failure. LUBRICANT-NEVER use WD40, 3 In One Oil, Vaseline or any non approved treadmill belt lubricant. For best results use manufacture recommended lubricant.

Recommended for all manual and motorized treadmills. Silicone oil extends service life of the treadmill and enhances overall performance. Helps to increase the life of motor, belt and rollers and ensures trouble free, smoother workouts.
Oil should not be used to lubricate the parts of treadmill. Treadmill silicone substance is available in the market.
If a belt is not tensioned properly, it will ride too loose or too tight on the pulley. A belt that`s too loose on a pulley will cause slippage, which leads to heat build up from friction. This heat will damage your rubber belts and cause the belts to crack and break.
You should expect to replace your belt tensioner in the 40,000-70,000 mile range. It is also customary to swap more than one part simultaneously, usually a worn-out pulley from other systems and even the serpentine belt itself.
The most common causes of timing belt tensioner failure include: Wear and tear: On a new mechanical timing belt tensioner system, the timing belt tensioner spring is wound tightly by two tension rods. Over time, the spring stretches out and loses its tension. As a result, the entire tensioner becomes too weak.
1: In many belt-driven systems, the belt friction keeps the pulley from slipping relative to the belt.
Belt Tension

Belts that are too tight put an excessive load on pulleys, shafts, and bearings. Excessive belt tension will also wear out a belt quickly. Proper belt tension is 1/2 inch of sideplay both ways.

This is often the sign of a slipping drive belt. The Drive/Motor belt is located under the motor housing cover and if it becomes too loose it can slip. This in turn can cause the running belt to slow or stop.

I have an 8100 ES Reebok treadmill. There is a squeaking noise coming from the drive motor. It is coming from the non-belt side (if facing the front of the treadmill, the left of the drive motor. When the treadmill is turned off, I can manually move the walking belt in the walking / running direction and it will squeak. If I move it in the opposite direction, manually it does not squeak. Also, if I need to lubricate the bearings can you tell me how to get to them to do this. The motor has plenty of power and no other problems, only squeaking. I have sprayed a belt lubricant on the belt and also blown it all out with a can of compressed air (used for computer key boards).
ANSWER : Hi.the bearings in these machines should be lubricated and sealed for life. they are not designed to be touched. it sounds like you have done the important bits. belt lubrication and blowing out any debris that may be there. squeaks like this can be incredibly difficult to find, but can also be incredibly annoying.the main things that you can do is keep watching to try and find exactly where the squeak is coming from and check for anything wrapped around the edge of the roller.keep using the belt spray, and the compessed air.a good grade silicone lubricating spray used at the edges of the rollers, by the bearings and around the motor and gearbox unit may also help but do not get this spray on the belt as it can be very slippery.squeaks like this can start and stop on their own or develop slowly and go just as slowly.keep doing the maintenance you are doing, and use the silicone spray as described above.it may take a little while for the spray to work its way into the bearings as they are fairly well sealed but you should notice an improvement after a few days.please feel free to ask for further advice if you need

Reebok TR2 Premier Run Treadmill belt has started slipping. I have tightened the bolts at the back end of the base but this has not solved it. Have also lubed under the belt, also with no effect. Any other suggestions?
ANSWER : What happens is the belt surface becomes polished and the driver roller cannot get a grip so it spins. What you need to do is actually clean the belt with rubbing alcohol. The rubber will go from shiny to a flat black as you clean the polished (burnished) rubber off of the surface of the belt. You just need a bottle of rubbing alcohol and papr towels. Soak the towel and rub the surface. You will go through quite a few towels as they lift the grim and dirt away. When it belt is a nice flat black you are done. This isn;t that bad as you don;t really have to even scrub hard to get the gunk off. It is more of a wiping off. That should fix it until the next time. Eventually as the rubber in the belt harden with age the surface will polish itself faster. Eventually it really won’t clean that well and you have to replace it but that should be many years down the road.

Recently, I was using my Horizon CST 4.5 treadmill when the power on the treadmill and the room it was housed in went out. I reset the cicuit breaker and tried to get back on the treadmill. It turned back on, counted down from 3, and the time began however the running surface(track) would not move. I lifted the front end where the motor and belts are housed. I noticed that the belt was still intact. Unsure if motor is burnt out. Any help would be appreciated.
ANSWER : There is usually a small breaker on treadmills that pops out and you have to push it in to reset it. Take a look around the front of the treadmill and see if you can locate the breaker and reset it and the treadmill should work normally.
