In bowling, a pinsetter or pinspotter is an automated mechanical device that sets bowling pins back in their original positions, returns bowling balls to the front of the alley, and clears fallen pins on the pin deck.
So how do they work? Pinsetters are activated by a bunch of sensors that detect your ball as it approaches the pins. As soon as your ball knocks down the pins, the `sweep` comes down and acts as a barrier in front of the pins while the `pin table` is lowered onto the remaining pins.
The floor of the ball pit consists of a conveyor belt that carries fallen pins towards the pin elevator. As the name suggests, a bowling alley`s pin elevator transports fallen pins upwards so they can reset for the next round. Pin elevators have up to ten slots that carry the pins to their next station.
Strike: When all ten pins are knocked down with the first ball (called a strike and typically rendered as an “X” on a score sheet), a player is awarded ten points, plus a bonus of whatever is scored with the next two balls.
Strike – Knocking down all the pins on the first throw. Spare – Picking up a spare is knocking down all remaining pins on a bowler`s second throw. Double – If you get two strikes in a row, you`ve just made yourself a double. Turkey – Three strikes in a row is a turkey.
And that`s the way we all grew up with bowling. Well, there`s a new technology where there`s cords that come out of the top of some bowling pins. And when the pins get knocked down, instead of getting swept up and then reset, they just get picked up like marionettes and then lowered carefully back onto their spots.
Nylon strings attached to the pins` tops pull them up into a rack after a shot, then replace those the player missed. (You can see a video here.)
Bowling at pins probably originated in ancient Germany, not as a sport but as a religious ceremony. Martin Luther is credited with settling on nine as the ideal number of pins.
The bowling pins are arranged as follows: One pin is in the first row (headpin) Two pins are in the second row (Pins 2 and 3) Three pins are in the third row (Pins 4, 5, and 6)
In 1936 Gottfried Schmidt invented the mechanical pinsetter while with the AMF firm, which largely did away with pin setting as a manual profession, although a small number of bowling alleys still use human pinsetters. Bowling Pins, as seen on display within the exhibition, The Way We Work(ed).

A string of strikes; i.e., five bagger is five in a row.

While no one really knows who or exactly where it started, tournament runners started giving out live turkeys to bowlers who managed to score three consecutive strikes. For a time, it was an especially common prize at holiday tournaments, namely in the U.S.
Seven strikes, then, is sometimes called a Ham-Turkey Dinner for a string of four strikes (Hambone) plus a string of three (Turkey).
A string of six strikes is sometimes called a “six pack” or a “sixer”. A string of six and nine strikes are also known as a “wild turkey” and a “golden turkey” respectively.

Another affliction of old age in bowling balls is loss of reaction and hook. If you`re noticing that you just can`t hook the ball like you used to, it may be time for a replacement.
Top Tip #2: Don`t Look At The Pins!

Skilled bowlers do not look at the pins as they throw the ball towards them. Next time you`re on the lanes, have a quick look at the lane before you start bowling. You`ll notice a row of arrows, approximately half-way down the lane.

In the embodiment of the invention shown herein, the means in the top or bottom of each pin comprises a permanent magnet, and the proximity device comprises and electrical coil assembly, the arrangement being such that the coil assembly will cut through the lines of flux produced by the permanent magnets whereby a …
All bowling balls under 12 pounds will float, because their density is less than that of water. Archimedes` Principal says when you put something in water, it displaces its weight in water. The 8-pound ball displaces 8 pounds of water, but the ball also takes up more volume than 8 pounds of water, so it floats.
10 Pin Bowling is the original bowling game. In the past, the game used to be more difficult to play due to poorer production quality of balls. It`s also worth noting that the size of the ball is bigger and therefore the ball is slightly heavier than the balls in the five-pin version.
5-Pin Bowling

It`s possible to achieve a perfect 450-point game, but that task is even more difficult than nailing a 300 in 10-pin. The ball: Five-pin bowling balls are small enough to fit in the hand, so they do not have finger holes.

Pin construction

Bowling pins are constructed by gluing blocks of rock maple wood into the approximate shape, and then turning on a lathe. After the lathe shapes the pin, it is coated with a plastic material, painted, and covered with a glossy finish.

Why do bowling pins have red stripes? The main function of the red stripes on bowling pins is to help differentiate the different pins. Having a bold color that stands out from the white pins may help with depth perception and seeing at a far distance.
Originally, way back in the late 1800s, bowling pins were made out of solid pieces of maple wood. However, with the invention of the pin setter in the 1940s, the solid pins were easily damaged and cracked and required more frequent replacement.

I have a TX500, never been used (just out of the box) and had to get an electrician to my home for this problem. It will start rolling but quits in a few seconds. The electrician believes that it is a problem in the sensor that rides at the belt. There is only one sensor in the pulley; he thinks that perhaps there should be two as there is a hole placement opposite the one that is in there. When the belt quits, it goes to a number 3 on the board which he thinks is the sensor as well. If he is correct, where do we get another magnet to place there? If he is not correct, please offer help. We did not get a owners manual in the box and surely could use one; where can we get one? Please help…thankyou
