How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

There are several things that could cause 30-30 not to fire, for example: bad ammunition, broken firing pin, worn or damaged firing hammer spring ect…. I recommend if you have a firearm that`s not in good working order take it to a reliable gunsmith and they`ll get you squared away fairly quickly.
Bullets vary in type and construction—swaged, cast, plated, jacketed, frangible, and they vary in weight and length which can affect accuracy. Some bullets might be better stabilized by different barrel designs.
30-30 have a maximum effective range of around 150-200 yards. When using a polymer tipped bullet and a scoped rifle (like a Marlin 336), it`s possible to extend that somewhat to around 250 yards or so.
What Causes A Gun To Misfire? The most common reason a misfire occurs is because of an “insufficient indent”, a primer that was not struck with enough force. A primer may get hit once and not go off.
Misfire. This occurs when the trigger is pulled and the firearm does not fire. It is caused either by a weak firing pin or a defective primer that fails to ignite the powder charge. If you are using a blackpowder firearm, inspect the priming cap or charge.
When your air rifle malfunctions (fails to fire), you must keep the muzzle pointed downrange, raise your hand so the Range Officer can see it and wait for instructions from the Range Officer.
In terms of shelf life, ammunition generally doesn`t expire or go bad. Many manufacturers will list an expiration date of ten years past the manufacturer date, but that`s more for legal reasons than it is for safety reasons. If it`s stored correctly, then there`s no real known limit to how long you can keep ammunition.
The average accuracy of the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in . 308 Win. was 1.79 MOA. In his Featherweight introduction in 1952, O`Connor mentions that he shot groups from 1.5 inches to 2.25 inches, and only shot one group that was under 1 inch at 100 yards.
30-30 offers more power with certain loads, better long-range performance, and soft recoil. Cartridges are (usually) widely available and don`t cost more than the . 350 Legend.
The most common causes of misfires are worn, improperly installed, and mishandled spark plugs, malfunctioning ignition coils, carbon tracking, faulty spark plug wires and vacuum leaks.
There are three basic malfunctions that can be attributed to ammunition specifically: the misfire, the hangfire, and the squib load.
Corrosion and pitting will appear as dark spots inside the barrel. If they are visible to the naked eye, the barrel is in bad shape. Minor to moderate pitting will not be visible, although it can often be seen just inside the muzzle near the crown.
Failure to feed, or tip-up: Possibly the most common handgun malfunction is the failure to feed, which often manifests as tip-up. This error occurs when a round feeds from the magazine but doesn`t enter the chamber. Instead, the bullet`s nose lodges against the barrel hood.
Breathing & Shooting Fundamentals

Inhale pause your breathing once the lung is full of oxygen and take the shot. 2) Relax with a few breaths, clear your mind, focus on your aim and fully exhale. Pause the breathing cycle when your lungs are empty of most oxygen, and then fire.

When the air rifle is dry fired, there is no pellet to slow the piston due to air resistance, making the piston hit the end of the compression chamber under much greater pressure. This will cause a certain amount of damage, dependent on the make and model of your gun.
Check your scope mount

Scope mount can make the difference between airgun accuracy and inaccuracy. Use good-quality mounts. Make sure they have the right diameter rings to fit the tube of your scope and are the correct height for comfortable eye/scope alignment.

30-30 Winchester Is Still One of the Best Deer Hunting Rifles (and Here`s Why) Over its more than 125-year lifetime, the lever-action . 30-30 rifle has arguably killed more whitetail deer than any other single cartridge.
Make sure that the magazine catch is in place so that the magazine can rotate around it. Check the pellets that you loaded and make sure they are not too long for the magazine. Pellets that are too long and/or protrude when seated will contact the receiver and cause jams. Check your breech seal.
Rifling marks are caused by spiral grooves located inside the gun barrel. These spirals cause the bullet to spin, producing a more stable flight path.
30-30s will only hold five rounds (although some hold six, and older models hold more). Ammunition used in . 30-30s has a round or flat nose, thus allowing it to be loaded into the tubular magazine without the fear of an accidental discharge.

There is a black slide pin on the mag, and a place to, i think, load each pellet individually.
Does the slide pin have to be in a certain position to load the pellets?
Do I load each pellet individually?
Thanks for your help
Russ
ANSWER : The slide pin needs to be in the up position, and yes you have to load the magazine with the pellets one at a time.

Unable to read camera on laptop to load pics
ANSWER : Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won’t run down your camera’s batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system’s drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer’s hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

The following is Wisner’s rendition & info on the subject.
The difference in the old firing pin and the new one is as follows. The old replaced
style, was totally lathe tuned (round). While the new recall style is similar in lathe
turning on the front and back, but in the front midsection it has two flats milled, one
on each side. This makes the center section stronger. Also replaced is the bolt sleeve
lock pin (firing pin guide) which was made to accommodate this different shaped firing
pin
Part number for the new parts are, firing pin =1391ND, bolt sleeve locking pin =1491ND
The word was at the time this recall was in process was that if the firing pin would
break at the mid section and still remain in the gun as two pieces, the possibility of a
premature discharge before the bolt was locked was possible. This apparently was caused
by the firing pin tip (now not having a retracting spring) to be stuck forward, and
thereby slam-firing upon chambering.
The responsibility for the recall apparently was on Olin, as they were the parent company
at time of manufacture. Olin set up regional recall centers at three established US
gunshops. There was a manufacturing delay in the replacement firing pins, and a backlog
occurred, also some collectors did not like the idea of shipping their guns long
distances. Olin then also authorized other gunshops to make the required alterations.
Upon completion of the recall, the shops were to test fire the firearm and to stamp an
assigned letter on the inside top of the receiver as seen thru the magazine well with the
bolt retracted. The letter “B” represented Bolsa Gunsmithing, “L” was Lefever, and “N”
was for Nu-line Guns. The letter “X” apparently was for all the other independent shops.
However this identification information did not get communicated to some of the smaller
shops at the start of the project. The only way to tell if the gun as been modified, if
the ”letter” is not present, is to take the barrel & action out of the stock, remove the
trigger guard assembly and the try to rotate the firing pin by twisting it. If it does
NOT rotate, then the firing pin recall HAS been performed.

My mossberg 500 drops a live shell without chambering it after the first couple. I have removed the plug to increase the maximum shell capacity. I have kept it full loaded in my safe for several years, and the problem appears to be new. Would the magazine tube spring be weakened by storing it loaded for an extended period of time? I have purchased a new spring but do not know how to install it. It could also be a problem with the elevator I am told. Is this something I can fix myself?
ANSWER : Tom, it’s been five years on this one of yours. Do you by any chance still need it answered? Just asking because it’s a sort of long answer and I’m not quite up to typing it if no one needs the info 😉

Does ANYONE need help on a dropping shell problem with a Mossy 500?
