How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?
We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :
Just point the motor head in the direction you want to travel, hit a button, and your boat will stay on that course while your motor corrects for wind, waves and current. Advanced AutoPilot uses GPS to keep you on your selected heading.
Example: The NV 55lb thrust motor draws 52 amps at full speed and uses one 12V battery.
The first letter of the serial number determines the year. The following three numbers determine what day of that year the trolling motor was made. Example 092 is April 2nd.
The pedal rests on the casting deck of the boat, and the cables are no more than five feet long. The pedal is pushed up and down to steer the motor. Push the toe of the foot pedal down to turn the motor to the right, or push the heel of the pedal down to turn the motor to the left.
A trolling motor uses electricity to generate power; this electricity comes from the batteries on your boat. In addition to the battery for starting your boat`s engine, plan on at least one more deep cycle battery for the trolling motor.
On-board chargers are permanently installed, wired directly to the batteries and can be left in-place between charges – simply connect to an AC power source to charge. DC chargers connect to the boat`s alternator and charge the batteries when the outboard motor is running instead of using AC power.
A 100Ah lithium battery will last for 1.85 hours or 1 hour 51 minutes on that trolling motor at full speed.
A Minn Kota trolling motor will operate with any lead acid, deep cycle marine 12-volt battery/batteries.
Comparing Thrust and Horsepower
As an example, the mid-size 55lb thrust trolling motor has the equivalent power of about 0.84 hp.
You can expect a battery like this to last a minimum of 2-3 years, which can be extended by maintaining electrolyte (acid) levels with distilled water and using a Minn Kota Precision charger`s deep equalization mode to combat sulfation.
Modern electric trolling motors are designed around a 12-volt, 24-volt or 36-volt brushed DC electric motor, to take advantage of the availability of 12-volt deep cycle batteries designed specifically for marine use.
Many factors determine how long a 24V trolling motor battery lasts—the sea conditions, the size of the boat, and even the tides. For a traditional craft with a 24-volt trolling motor battery (16-22 feet in length), the general runtime is about half a day.
If the motor is 55 lbs. of thrust or less, you will need (1) 12 volt battery. If you have a motor with more than 55 lbs of thrust up to 80 lbs. of thrust, you will need (2) 12 volt batteries for a total of 24 volts.
Will my car battery work for my trolling motor? No, car batteries are not recommended and can ruin your motor.
Lead acid batteries remain the most common deep cycle batteries for trolling motors. They can handle frequent draining and re-charging associated with trolling motor use and they are the most affordable option. Depending on quality, lead acid batteries will last between 2-3 years.
Two 12-volt deep cycle batteries are required. Batteries in the system must be the same manufacture, type, size, and age. Make sure that the trolling motor is disconnected.
The Alternator Charger will automatically start charging the trolling motor batteries once the starter battery reaches 13.6 volts and the ignition is on for the outboard motor. This prevents the starter battery from draining. Each output bank is independent and isolated from one another.
Lead-acid wet cell batteries are one of the most common types of batteries to use with trolling motors. They are an affordable option that can handle the everyday uses of a trolling motor. They typically last around 2-3 years and may require some sort of maintenance.
Damage, corrosion, buildup, and loose connections can cause issues with power transfer. Next check the connections coming from the battery(s) to the quick disconnect or receptacle. Again you want a clean and tight connection with no buildup and no damage to prevent power transfer.
Field Tests. Many of our customers can comfortably run their trolling motor and other accessories for a full day fishing trip with our 50Ah models. With our 100Ah models, many customers report 2 or more full days of fishing before needing a recharge.
A single Dakota Lithium 36V 60 Amp Hour (Ah) battery will power a trolling motor for a full day of runtime in river current. On a lake, or low power setting, some anglers report 2+ days of run time. Simplicity. It is is easy to install.
Max amp draw is 42 amps/hr, same as the Minn Kota Endura C2 40 Freshwater Transom Mounted Trolling Motor (36″ Shaft) and Minn Kota Endura C2 45 Freshwater Transom Mounted Trolling Motor (36″ Shaft) , but with more thrust per amp because it has larger windings then those two. More thrust for the same amount of power.
A fully charged 12 volt battery should read at 12.6 volts on the multimeter. If the reading is lower than this, you`ll want to charge your battery with either a battery charger or by taking your car for a drive.
The runtime depends on the Amp-Hour rating of the battery. Theoretically, a 50AH battery on our 55lb thrust motor will run continuously on the highest speed for an hour.

I have a 1997 motor guide wireless 24volt Big Water trolling motor. hooked it up to the batteries and put in a new 9volt battery in the foot pedal. the lights come on on top of the motor head and the foot pedal beeps, but the prop doesnt turn or spin (like there is no power to the bottom of the motor) any suggestions to what the problem is or how to fix it? (just bought the motor from a lady who’s husband died. dont have any manuals)
ANSWER : Hello there, as you said the power does not get to the bottom of the motor. The motor could be faulty or just completely bad. First you have to determine that the motor is good until you can determine this it is quite impossible to determine if there can be any fix. Take out the motor and try to power it on its own if it works fine then the problem is not from the motor but most likely the problem is from the motor. Let me know what your findings are. Hoping to hear from you soon.

TC5000 and after extended use I smell burning and upon removing the belt cover and drive belt I felt of the motor on the motor side of the drive pulley and it was ”red-hot”, obviously the source of the smell of the burning. The motor spins freely without any rubbing noise. The drive pulley (motor side) and the tread pulley appear to be alligned. One curious thing is that the threaded motor output shaft is recessed about 3/8” from the outside edge of the pulley. Could it be the bearing on the pulley side of the motor? I am dumbfounded as to what the solution might be. Note that I could not enter the exact product as my model seemed to be invalid. My model is the TC5000. Thanks [email protected]
ANSWER : Just because it spins freely doesnt mean it cant have a shorted winding. Id send it back where it came from or at least replace the motor.

Motor was running great, but it died slowly and never start again
ANSWER : Check to see if you have a spark -then check if you are still getting fuel-and how old is the fuel-because it is recommended ,an im assuming its a 2 stroke motor, that the fuel should be replace with a fresh 2 stroke mixture every couple of months as the mixture jellyfies and sludges up the carb etc-try those first

My daughter has a sweet pea scooter that had been blowing fuses and the motor got hot. Im sure the motor is shot. but my question is can anyone tell me if the motor would be the only thing I need to c
ANSWER : Find out whether it is 6 volts or 12 volts and there should be two wires that feed the motor either cut or splice and attach another set of wires with fuse in the line (simular to jumper cables) raise the back tire so it does not touch the ground and place jump wires to the negative and positive of the battery. If the motor moves in either direction without blowing the fuse the motor is good if not then its bad. Uses the same amperage fuse

I have a 1991 Yamaha 250 outboard motor. I can connect the harness from the control box to the motor harness, put the motor in nuetral, and the motor will turn over but it will not start. I can disconnect the conrol box from the motor, jump it direct from the battery, and it will start. What might be the problem? I even bought a new control box but still have the same problem.
Thank you,
Dean Youngstrand
ANSWER : I would check for power coming off of the ignition switch. The ignition switch is what sends power to the control box to the coil. You can also check for power on your coil. But I would bet that it is your ignition switch.
