Basic Pre-Camping Prep
Other than that, you would also need these additional tools: a mallet and a couple of stakes. These tools would help to nail your tent firmly on the ground and help keep it erect. A mallet would ease the process and help you quickly set up the tent in no time.
There are very easy Pop Up and small tents and there are some difficult larger tents which usually takes two people to put up. One can do it, but if there`s any wind, rain it can be a task. So the first time is in your back yard or parking area. Read any instructions first and then put it up it at home.
For most tents you should start at one end then progress to the other, pegging each side as you go. The level of tension should be equal all round, and tight enough to prevent flapping, without placing too much strain on the structure & material.
Keep away from setting up where there is washout (leaves and the dirt pattern is a good solid indicator). The tent should be placed in a position that allows water to drain away from the tent, so that you don`t have a river running through it. Set up your tent away from where you are going to be eating.
8 Person Tents
Spacious enough for four people and gear. Six people are pushing it, but it can be done if the tent is intended for a family with little ones. An 8-person canvas bell tent offers plenty of space for eight sleeping bags or, alternatively, a queen bed and two cots.

Eight-Person Tent
This tent size provides king-size living space for four and comfortable living space for six if some are children or dogs. These come with a floor space of 120 to 130 square feet. Once you reach this size, be sure to pick a spot that can both accommodate the tent and the necessary distance for a fire.
Generally speaking, a tent should weigh approximately 2.5 pounds per person. Remember that when backpacking with multiple people, you can split the weight by dividing the tent, rain fly, and poles.
It will be a difficult experience, especially if you`re used to having a bed, temperature regulation, and convenient access to food, water, and other necessities. However, when done properly, it can be an extremely rewarding experience that will change your outlook on life.
Ventilation must ensure a steady supply of fresh air/oxygen (for reasons of both safety and sleep), as well as control condensation out of the tent. The ventilation system must be able to do this in two ways: through ventilation and ventilation.
Geodesic or Semi-Geodesic Tents

A groundsheet is critical for staying dry. If you don`t use one, and it rains even a bit, you will most likely wake up wet and profoundly unhappy. However, a solid tent plus a groundsheet can keep you dry in light rains or even moderate drizzles.
I`ve carried a 2kg tent before and it`s perfectly feasible! It`s possible to get sub-1kg tents, but remember that people have been wildcamping since the days of cotton canvas, and those were never as light as 2kg. Pack your rucksack and weigh it – ideally it should be less than about a quarter of your bodyweight.
Just remember, it might not be a good idea to lock your tent at night, in case of emergencies or an urgent toilet dash. A shoestring might be a better choice here; tie the zippers together as you would with a shoelace, so they`re easy to pull free should you need to evacuate urgently.
Ease of Setup
Some companies recommend three to four people as ideal for setting their tents up, which may be more than you have available.
A tented roof (also known as a pavilion roof) is a type of polygonal hipped roof with steeply pitched slopes rising to a peak.
How do pop up tents work? Pop up tents have spring loaded tent poles which come pre-attached to the body of the tent. The tent bag keeps these springs compressed and the tent folded, but when you take it out of the bag the springs force the tent poles to extend.
As a general rule, a family of 4 will need at least a 6 person tent. A family of 5 will likely need an 8P tent and a 6-person family will need a 10P tent. However, these guidelines aren`t always accurate. Some very large tents will actually only sleep four people comfortably, especially if you are using air mattresses.

Tent I bought a tent the name on the outside says South Mountain.Not sure how to put up. It has two long rods & two short ones it looks like there are two rain gaurds also. There are no instrutions that came with this tent. Are there any pics that that show how to put up. I think the tent is around five years old.
ANSWER : It has to be similar to this (see link below). Most tents assemble in similar ways. Insert rods through the sleeves. Hook one side of the rod to one corner, arch the rods and hook the other side of the rod to the opposite corner. Repeat for the other rod.

Square tent with 2 types gazebo poles, varenda, 2 side windows
ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.

How to stabalize four tent poles in an open area.
ANSWER : If you get four sturdy poles (not normal tent poles) then the best thing to do is to stake the four poles into the ground at a 60 degree angle with the top away from the tent and then use the tension created by the angle to support the tarp.

I need new poles for Swiss Gear tent # SG33071F
ANSWER : Go to Home depot and buy a tube that fit the pole. Cut it into 5 or 6 inches for the broken areas. It costs me less than 2 dollars. Let me know how it turn out on yours.
