How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

Generally speaking, you can expect a 25hp outboard to reach speeds of up to 25 knots, which is around 28. 7 miles per hour (mph). Smaller boats typically reach a maximum speed of around 15-18 knots, or 17.
The solution – Change the propeller pitch. The propeller is the one variable which you can easily alter to regulate your boat engine`s wide-open-throttle RPM range, simply by increasing (to lower wide-open RPM) or decreasing (to raise it) pitch.
The outboard motor speed and range depend on your specific boating situation. Here we take the 9.9 HP Navy 6.0 as an example (supported by one 8960 Wh E175 battery). If you use it on a 12-foot aluminum boat with one person onboard in clam water, you can expect 15 mph (24.3 kph) at max power.
Generally speaking, a 250 hp boat can reach speeds between 40 and 50 mph.
Horsepower refers to how much power your engine can produce in a certain amount of time. So, the more horsepower that your engine has, the faster you will be able to go.
For cars, horsepower translates into speed. So if you want to go faster, and get up to speed quicker, you need more horsepower. Torque, on the other hand, is the expression of a rotational or twisting force.
As a rule, a stainless-steel prop of the same pitch and diameter will make your boat go faster — up to 2 to 3 knots, on some boats — than an aluminum prop. Stainless steel is stronger and can be made thinner, which allows more speed. Stainless steel also flexes less and keeps its shape at higher speeds.
A 4-blade prop can provide a competitive edge for boats requiring maximum speed and acceleration. The increased surface area and grip can help to deliver more power to the water, resulting in faster speeds and quicker acceleration.
One of the easiest ways to increase the top speed of your boat is to upgrade your propeller. Switching from an aluminum propeller to a stainless steel model, you`ll notice a slight gain of about 3 mph. The key to maximizing the speed that your propeller generates is to opt for the strongest material.
Lowering prop pitch will increase acceleration and thrust. Increasing prop pitch will make the boat go faster (provided the engine has enough power to keep the RPMs in the optimum operating range.

A power level of 1 hp is approximately equivalent to 746 watts (W) or 0.746 kilowatts (kW). To convert from horsepower to watts, multiply by 746. To convert from watts to horsepower, multiply by 0.00134. To convert from horsepower to kilowatts, multiply by 0.746.
For cars or crossover SUVs, 250 horsepower is more than good; it`s a great output that can walk the fine line between high performance and high MPG.
The formula to calculate the speed is therefore: (L x 60) (T x 100) = V, where L is length in feet, T is time in seconds and V is speed in knots. For example, if on a 28ft yacht it took three and a half seconds to pass an object, the calculation would be : (28 x 60) divided by (3.5 x 100) = 4.8 knots.
If you`re looking for a general sense of how powerful a vehicle is, look for the horsepower: the higher the number, the more oomph it`ll have. If you`re interested in towing with your vehicle or want a vehicle with great acceleration, you want to take torque into account.
Running at lower RPMs equates to higher torque and thus lower horsepower, while making higher RPM power outputs less torque and higher top horsepower. In a straight line race, higher RPMs take precedence.
Compression. Increasing compression is the most productive way to increase horsepower. Build compression into your engine and you build in power. In more than a century of internal combustion, there has never been a more common sense way to make power.
Supercharger or turbocharger

Also known as forced induction parts, both of these components force air into your car`s engine which improves horsepower and torque. A turbocharger works with the exhaust system and can potentially give you gains of 70-150 horsepower.

Not quite. It`s a common misconception that one horsepower is equal to the peak power production of a horse, which is capable of a maximum of around 14.9 horsepower. By comparison, a human being is capable of approximately five horsepower at peak power production.
Every boat owner is different and how far you decide to push your marine engine is in your hands. However, running your boat at Wide-Open Throttle is not bad for your engine and can even help clear out carbon build up.
Boat speed

There are typically two ways of calibrating your log. If you sail somewhere without tide or current it is usually as simple as changing the calibration number until the boat speed is equal to the speed over ground. The other method is done by calculating the speed by motoring over a known distance.

For best overall performance is 10 x 12″ pitch stainless steel 3 blade propeller. I don`t see nothing is wrong with stock propeller like 11 7/8″ pitch only comes with short shaft. If u have a long shaft then you have a 9″ stock propeller come with it.

2005 Mercury 50hp 2-stroke outboard motor very sluggish when accelerating, stalled twice when trying to exceed 50% throttle capacity. Last time I used my boat was about two months ago, so I don’t think bad fuel is the problem. I let my boat idle at the boat launch for probably 5 mins before taking off. I didn’t notice any weird sounds or any indication that my motor was running any different than normal. After only a couple of minutes of running my boat up river I gave more throttle(probably 75% power) when it started to bog down. I immediatly kicked it out of gear and checked to see if something was caught around my prop but there was nothing there. From then on everytime I put the motor in gear and gave it throttle it would barely respond and stalled twice. Any suggestions to what this might be? Thanks, Newt.
ANSWER : The carberator is gravity fed and there is propbably gunk in it, when you give it more throttle, it needs more gas but can’t get it. Then a build up of gas in the float bowl occurs and nothing works right. It has happened to me and its aggravating, do a complete rebuild on the carb or just replace it and you will be happier quicker.

Motor was running great, but it died slowly and never start again
ANSWER : Check to see if you have a spark -then check if you are still getting fuel-and how old is the fuel-because it is recommended ,an im assuming its a 2 stroke motor,that the fuel should be replace with a fresh 2 stroke mixture every couple of months as the mixture jellyfies and sludges up the carb etc-try those first

ANSWER : The prop is cavitating. The outdrive is not trimed under enough or the prop is damaged (providing it is the correct prop.)

I have the Intex Sand/Pump pool filter Model SF 20110. It’s been running real great for the last 4 months. However recently it has been tripping the internal overloads and I have found the pump motor to be very hot when I put my hand against it. I have tried several different solutions, such as a level ground platform that was clear of any obstructions, made sure that the motor vents under the motor was clear of anything that would prevent air flow. I used a non electrical type of lubricate on the impeller. When I would turn on the pump the rotor would not turn but only would hum very loudly and then slowly begin to turn. I also noticed that the motor’s rotor shaft would not turn to freely due the tightness around the rotor’s shaft. After using the lubricate the shaft would turn a little easier. I used an amp meter on the incoming voltage line and the motor would run at 4.5 amp. And yet it still overheated and tripped the motor overloads. I can only think that the motor is still not getting enough ventilation. I have check and cleared all the incoming lines and found nothing block the pumps input or output lines. Any suggestion?
ANSWER : I just looking into this issue my self. The pump cools itself by a internal fan, which is run by the motor. Well I took the housing cover off to find out all the fan blades have broken off and were setting in the base of the pump. Once you remove the fan blades from covering the air intake, it might be fine. I will find out my self once summer gets here.

TC5000 and after extended use I smell burning and upon removing the belt cover and drive belt I felt of the motor on the motor side of the drive pulley and it was ”red-hot”, obviously the source of the smell of the burning. The motor spins freely without any rubbing noise. The drive pulley (motor side) and the tread pulley appear to be alligned. One curious thing is that the threaded motor output shaft is recessed about 3/8” from the outside edge of the pulley. Could it be the bearing on the pulley side of the motor? I am dumbfounded as to what the solution might be. Note that I could not enter the exact product as my model seemed to be invalid. My model is the TC5000. Thanks [email protected]
ANSWER : Just because it spins freely doesnt mean it cant have a shorted winding. Id send it back where it came from or at least replace the motor.

I have a 1991 Yamaha 250 outboard motor. I can connect the harness from the control box to the motor harness, put the motor in nuetral, and the motor will turn over but it will not start. I can disconnect the conrol box from the motor, jump it direct from the battery, and it will start. What might be the problem? I even bought a new control box but still have the same problem.

ANSWER : I would check for power coming off of the ignition switch. The ignition switch is what sends power to the control box to the coil. You can also check for power on your coil. But I would bet that it is your ignition switch.
