Your intended playing surface will play a large role in determining where you install your goal. The surface should be hard, level, and free of bumps, holes, or other tripping hazards. For these reasons (among others), grass as a playing surface should be avoided at all costs.

To fully enjoy your hoop, you need to have adequate playing space that can accommodate the size of your hoop and the number of people playing on it. You want a minimum of 10 feet of concrete in front of your goal, but preferably closer to 15 feet which is the distance of the free throw line.
To mount a hoop on a wall, the most important thing is to check if the surface is solid. It must be strong enough to handle and withstand physical pressure. Make sure the surface is flat and away from the roof line. A flat surface helps make sure that the backboard is tightly attached to the wall.
It is recommended that concrete be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days. However, depending on the desired use of the basketball hoop, the curing time may be extended to ensure that the concrete is fully cured and will not be damaged by weather or other elements.
Filling Your Basketball Base with Water

Put the hose into the fill hole and fill until the water reaches the hole. Carefully stand the hoop upright. From here, add the recommended amount of bleach to aid in preventing algae build up. Continue filling the base until completely full.

If the bolt does not want to move, gently tap it with a hammer, but be careful to not hit the bolt so hard it mushrooms the threads, making it un-usable. Before completely removing the bolt be sure the goal is at its lowest setting and you have at least 3 or 4 extra people to support the goal when the bolt is freed.
If you leave your basketball hoop out in the open for the winter, you can cover the hoop and net with a trash bag and secure the bag with duct tape. If you are not going to play on your basketball goal during the winter months, you should remove the basketball net.
Basketball can get wet, but they shouldn`t. A wet basketball can get water-logged, similar to how a football or baseball can get water-logged. For those who don`t know, water-logged is a term that`s used to describe a ball or object that has absorbed water, making it substantially heavier than its original form.
A) The Base Gel/water gel will freeze at temperatures below 32 degrees F (0 degrees C) and will return to a firm, stable gel as temperatures rise above 32 degrees F. Base Gel`s performance will not be affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles and will last up to 7 years.
Clean the area with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Apply two coats of a rust preventative, high gloss enamel paint to the area. Allow the paint to dry between coats. If rust has penetrated through the pole anywhere, replace it immediately!
Water basketball is a water sport, which mixes the rules of basketball and water polo, played in a swimming pool. Teams of five players each must shoot at the goal with a ball within a certain time after gaining possession.
Mix two 50lb bags of concrete with water in a mixing tub or 5-gallon bucket. Add concrete into the hole and around the 4” x 4”. Depending on your climate, let concrete set up for 24 – 48 hours.
A common alternative to concrete is an asphalt pad. This is a popular selection since materials and installation are typically less expensive than concrete. As with concrete, ensure the asphalt is level and has minimal slope. The finish should be relatively smooth and not have any large aggregate.
The grass absorbs energy so your students will really have to pound the ball in order for it to bounce high enough for effective dribbling. A hard dribble is a good technique to develop, because it`s more difficult for opponents to check. It improves specific strength and endurance in the muscles used for dribbling.
Sand is more expensive and more difficult to put in the base, but it will not evaporate like water. Water is significantly easier and cheaper than filling with sand. Water can freeze and if you live in a cold region, the water may possibly crack your base.
