Finding the Model Number

The model number for Johnson and Evinrude outboards is usually found on an identification tag that is located on the transom mounting bracket of the engine. Hopefully, the model number is still legible when you find it!

The actual year is found in the model number, not the serial number. For example, 150TXL78 is a 150hp engine from 1978. 65ESLR72 would be from 1972. For engines prior to 1969 refer the the Johnson 1960-1979 serial number year chart located here.
The Johnson brothers held over two hundred patents, and revolutionized the American outboard motor. The company was first acquired by Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) in 1935. OMC filed for bankruptcy on 22 December 2000. It has been owned since 2001 by the Canadian firm Bombardier Recreational Products.
Serial number labels will reference the date of manufacture for the engine by providing visibility of the month and year the engine was produced. For example, if an engine was manufactured in May of 2012, the serial number label will reflect 05/2012 directly below where the serial number is indicated.
In 1936 the Evinrude company merged with the Johnson Motor Company to form the Outboard Marine Corporation.
Four mid-range outboard engines are offered in the Johnson four-stroke outboard line for 2003, including 70-, 60-, 50- and 40-horsepower models.
You can obtain Evinrude parts and accessories from your authorized dealer, or using our online store.
But BRP saw Evinrude as a failing business that Mercury Marine and Yamaha dominated. And those two companies were investing heavily in the development of more powerful, cleaner engines. BRP would have to do the same for Evinrude.
High performance usage (racing) requires a ratio of 25:1. New engine break-in (not DI) requires 25:1.
A: 50-to-1 is 1pint (16oz) 2-stroke oil to 6 gallons fuel. Q: how many gallons fuel will this mix at 50 to 1 ratio? A: Typical at 50-to-1 you can use 16oz. for 6 gallons of fuel.

Best Answer. The engine will have a alphanumeric casting number on the passenger side (right side) of the block, under the heads. The first letter of the code identifies the decade (C=1960s, D=1970s, E=1980s), the second digit in the code identifies the specific year.
Fault Code 19 indicates a loss of communication between the TECU and ECA.
The HIN is the Hull Identification Number assigned to the boat. Each HIN is unique to that boat, and is the same as the VIN on a motor vehicle.
Less Maintenance. If maintenance is a concern, which is usually is to most boaters, the Evinrude may win you over in the Evinrude vs Yamaha debate as the best outboard to go with. Less maintenance means more time out on the water, simply enjoying life.
Evinrude built the first outboard motor, and an empire. Over the years, the Evinrude outboard became a setpiece of pure Americana. The Elto Company and Johnson Motors merged with Evinrude in 1929.
On average, an outboard motor will run for about 1,500 hours or 7 to 8 years. Each outboard motor will be different, but if you continue to maintain and take care of the motor, it can last much longer.
Fortunately, it`s fairly simple to find your boat`s build date. (See “HINs By The Numbers” below) The information with the boat`s model year is contained in the hull identification number (HIN), which is a label permanently affixed to the boat. The number includes a date assigned by the builder.
They can be broken down into four distinct generations. Prior to 1958 all Johnson/Evinrude engines were either a one or two-cylinder. In 1958 the V4 was introduced. The first V4 was rated at 50 horsepower and the basic engine design was manufactured from 1958-1968 reaching a pinnacle of 85 horsepower in 1968.
The main disadvantage of the two-stroke outboard motor is that it does not have the same longevity as a four-stroke. Two-stroke motors require a mixture of oil and gas to lubricate all of the moving parts, which can be expensive and somewhat difficult to formulate.
The technology is considered 2-Stroke, Direct Injection. Evinrude E-TEC in fact, has cleaner exhaust emissions than a 4-stroke, it produces 5 to 10 times less Carbon Monoxide (CO) while idling or trolling.
The most powerful, fuel efficient and cleanest combustion outboard is now available from 150 HP to 200 HP.

We have model#38025 Toro 1800 snow blower that I am trying to fix. I can find no free download from a trusted site. I found some but the site is not trustworthy and I will not recommend a site unless I know it is safe. This is a small price to pay for a repair manual. I hope this is helpful. Not free but the best deal I can find.
