I have a large canvas tent and I have stripped the thread in one of the extendable tent poles that takes most of the weight of the tent. This means I cannot effectively tighten the screw that holds the pole (and therefore tent) in an extended position. How can I repair it, or do I need to replace it?
Experienced athletes share their insights in answering this question:
If you go to any good tool store or engineering store you can get what is known as helecoil insert.just tell them the inside diam of the pole.they will probably put it in for you if yuo take the pole along.hope this will help.regards barry.

How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

1) Thread through first pole and tie off one end of the elastic to sop it pulling through.. 2)Thread through remaining poles one at a time until the length of elastic is too short to go through the remaining poles without stretching.
The easiest and quickest way to fix a broken pole is with a pole repair sleeve. Also called a splint, this short tube is often provided with your tent. If not, buy one and pack it with you. A good pole repair sleeve is just slightly larger in diameter than your pole so that it doesn`t move around too much.
2. Fix a broken tent pole. Generally, tent poles are pretty robust, but should you arrive at the campsite to find that one of yours is damaged, find a suitable stick and use your duct tape to attach it to the damaged pole for extra reinforcement.
The standard size shockcord for most aluminum and carbon fiber poles is 1/8″ (our item #2400) but when weight is more critical you can use 3/32″ shockcord (our item #2402). The standard size for fiberglass is the 3/32”.
Gently push cord thorough entire length of pole, then tie off at one end (either just a knot or attached to pole tip. Then to tension the shock cord, pull out about 25% the total length of the pole in slack (for a 10ft pole pull out 2-3ft) and tie off at the pole end.
To help prevent corrosion and to keep the ferrules lubricated, spray the poles regularly but sparingly with silicone spray. Ensure you wipe off any excess spray. Never use an oil-based spray as this will damage your tent fabric.
Instant & Fast – Tent pole splint quickly repairs broken tent poles; fits all standard tent poles. Durable – Lightweight design and anodized aluminum construction ensures this fix last for years. Two Sizes – Fits tent poles smaller than 1/2” (12 mm) or 5/8” (16 mm) in diameter.
Some brands produce their own pole kits to suit their tents. But for the most part, there are all interchangeable with the only variants being the material and the adjustable lengths.
Camo Gorilla Tape offers a UV and weather resistant shell with matte finish. Its ability to stick to smooth, rough and uneven surfaces makes it an ideal tape for applications in the field including duck blinds, tree stands, and tent repairs.
Bungee cord, shock cord, and elasticated cord are three names that are used interchangeably, to describe a cord with a stretchy rubber core and a braided outer sheath. In fact, all of the bungee cords available on our site are actually listed as shock cords, because they`re exactly the same thing!
Shock and elastic cords may be made out of similar materials, but shock cord has a longer stretch or elongation than that of elastic cord. Shock cord has a 100% elongation or can stretch to double its original length, while elastic cord has a 50% elongation or can stretch to one and a half times its original length.
At-Home Mesh Repair

Tear-Aid patches can be a very effective repair for mesh tears. We recommend reinforcing two patches on each side of the mesh and letting it cure overnight before packing the tent back in its stuff sack.

Square tent with 2 types gazebo poles, varenda, 2 side windows
ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.

My basketball hoop broke and I have a pole cemented in the ground. Can you buy just the hoop/backboard itself and attach to the pole or do I have to cut the pole and start over?
ANSWER : Sorry I know nothing about basketball but it seems a crying shame to cut down the pole even if you can’t find a replacement hoop and board.

I have faced many similar things and I find remembering the wise old saying “in order to get the right answer it is important to first ask the right question”…

I suggest you ask around those who should know such things – the coach at the local schools, local teams. If you don’t get satisfaction then why not ask your local repair shop or fabricator if they can make what you need at a reasonable cost.
