An internal hammer shotgun with an external tubular magazine, Winchester produced the Model 12 from 1912 to 1964, a 51-year production life. Nearly two million shotguns were manufactured during that period in various grades, barrel lengths, and chamberings. A special production occurred in 2006 with limited numbers.
Originally produced as a tougher, stronger and more improved version of the Winchester 1893, itself an improvement on the early Spencer pump gun, the 1897 was identical to its forerunner, except that the receiver was thicker and allowed for use of smokeless powder shells, which were not common at the time.
The Italian firm Chiappa Firearms manufactures modern reproductions of the Winchester Model 1887 series shotguns.
In 1873 Winchester introduced the Model 1873 that used . 44-40 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) cartridges, which became known as the gun that won the West. From 1883 John Moses Browning worked with the Winchester company to design a number of rifles and shotguns.
The fact of the matter is these are collectible to a lot of people, and they do command higher prices online.
In fact, two of the most famous Winchester model firearms in history, are the Model 12 shotgun and the Model 70 bolt-action rifle. Once billed as “the perfect repeater,” the Model 12 was Winchester`s first hammerless pump-action shotgun.
Winchester Model 1873

The Model 1873 has become one of the highly collectible Winchesters. The great beauty of the Model 1873 is the wide range of special-order features Winchester cheerfully offered. A wonderful collection could be amassed with no two exactly alike.

The . 50-110 WCF (also known as the . 50-100-450 WCF , with different loadings) in modern 1886 Winchesters with modern steel barrels is the most powerful lever-action cartridge, with up to 4,000 foot-pounds (5,400 J) of energy.
The new technology included a spring-closed loading port on the right-hand side of the frame, directly at the rear of the magazine tube, and resulted in the first reliable lever-action repeating rifle, produced as the first Winchester, Model 1866.
The Terminator`s (Arnold Schwarzenegger) hero Winchester repeater shotgun from James Cameron`s sci-fi action film Terminator 2:Judgment Day. The cut-down shotgun was used by the Terminator after he stole it from the biker bar.

Founded in the 16th century, Beretta is the oldest active manufacturer of firearm components in the world. In 1526 its inaugural product was arquebus barrels; by all accounts Beretta-made barrels equipped the Venetian fleet at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
Winchester SXP: Final Thoughts

The Winchester SXP Defender is a solid, entry-level 12 gauge shotgun with plenty of after-market accessories to take it to the next level. Given its combination of reliability and affordability, I would recommend at least checking it out, if you are in the market for a new shotgun.

A Lever Action . 30-30 Winchester Is Still One of the Best Deer Hunting Rifles (and Here`s Why) Over its more than 125-year lifetime, the lever-action . 30-30 rifle has arguably killed more whitetail deer than any other single cartridge.

The KSG-25 can store an enormous amount of firepower for a single shotgun: up to twenty three-inch shells, 24 2.75 inch shells, or forty 1.62 inch mini-shells. The shotgun can also store one shell in the chamber, for a total of twenty-one, twenty-five, and forty-one shells, respectively.
A standard Winchester carbine is valued at a few hundred dollars at most, but these unique carbines that have a much-shorter than usual 15-inch barrel are worth a couple of thousand at least. For instance, this early 20th century model 1892 trapper recently sold for $7,475 at auction.
The Winchester Super X3, billed as “The World`s Fastest Shotgun,” uses Winchester`s Active Valve to allocate the exact amount of gas to drive the action, allowing the gun to shoot light target loads up to 3½-inch magnums.
Though many stalwart Model 12 fans were loyal to the end, the gun would eventually end production in 1964. During production years, the Model 12 saw a variety of models and features.
From August 1912 until first discontinued by Winchester in May 1964, nearly two million Model 12 shotguns were produced in various grades and barrel lengths.
It was during World War II that the Winchester Model 12 Trench Gun was issued in significant numbers and saw combat, especially in the Pacific. According to Canfield in Complete Guide to United States Military Shotguns, a total of 61,104 Model 12, 12-gauge shotguns were delivered to the U.S. Government during the War.
