Reel lubricants

Because WD-40 is a degreaser, it breaks down grease and oil. Never use it to lubricate a reel. The basic rule of thumb is to grease gears and oil everything else — sparingly. Too much grease and oil impede the spool and reduce casting distance.

Bearings rely on oil for their lubrication which is better for fast-moving parts that need less friction, whereas grease protects and coats slower-moving parts that interlock with one another, like gears. Both are important when maintaining a reel, as fishing reels serve both functions.
Over time, dirt, salt, and sand will find its way into the drag washers on your spinning reels, resulting in a “sticky” drag. A faulty drag system is one of the main culprits for breaking off a big fish. Every reel is different, so be certain to check the owner`s manual before you begin.
Isopropyl rubbing alcohol will do if a reel needs only minor cleaning, said Dan Thornburn, a Shimano reel guru who does reel maintenance clinics at sports shows. He applies the alcohol with a pump spray bottle. “For heavy cleaning, I use Crystal Simple Green cleaner,” Thornburn said.
Fishing reel greases usually have very good resistance to water and protection against corrosion. Typical automotive or industrial greases are not recommended for the lubrication of fishing reels.
TIPS: Synthetic oils, ballistol or simular, are the best. Never use WD40 or RP7, A BIG NO NO. Water proof grease can be used on bearings in spin reels only, never baitcasters as their bearings are high speed.
Although your wife`s Olive oil may taste nice, and you may be tempted to reach for it to use on your fishing gear, please don`t. Cooking oils like vegetable oil, canola oil and olive oil are not designed for this purpose.
Like any other tool or piece of equipment, your fishing reel needs consistent maintenance to continue to work well and remain durable. If you usually fish in freshwater, you should clean your reel at least once every five fishing trips, whereas saltwater fishers need to clean their reels after every trip.
To begin with it`s important to fill your reels full. Casting reels should be between an eighth of an inch from the top and all the way to the top. If you get too much line on them, you`ll get a weird sound when you cast. Spinning reels should be all the way full, right to the top.
There should be no loose or flimsy parts, and all moving parts should be smooth in performance and have no back play whatsoever. Also, spinning reels have more parts than casting reels. Choosing a reel with fewer parts can reduce the chances of mechanical breakdown.
The most common reel on the market has a 6.4:1 gear ratio. This will allow you to work both fast moving presentations as well as slow. However, for certain techniques and applications, a very high or low gear ratio will often work best. For instance, burning a spinnerbait or buzzbait is best done with a 7.1:1 reel.
Spincast reels are the easiest to learn and simplest to operate of the three primary styles of casting reels. Generally, they are the least expensive. Spincast (spincasting) reels are identifiable by their “closed face.” That is, the spool containing the fishing line is totally enclosed within the reel itself.
Create Reels Under 10 Seconds

Did you know that the average attention span is up to 8 seconds only? This means that people will be less likely to watch your Instagram reels if they`re longer than 8-10 seconds. They may be too busy scrolling to the next reel if you couldn`t get their attention in the first few seconds.

The two basic types of rods are casting and spinning rods. Casting rods are designed for baitcast and spincast reels whereas spinning rods are matched with spinning reels.
The easiest way to start skipping is with a spinning reel. Here`s why. With a spinning reel, the spool doesn`t move. The line peels off the spool with the momentum of the cast.
After several uses (5 or more) it`s suggested to perform a cleaning of the reel and a light lubrication moving components visible after opening and/or removing the coil. WD-40 Specialist Silicone works well for lubricating these moving parts and also provides protection against rust and corrosion.
Once you`ve coated the rod in oil, wipe away any excess with a clean cloth. When you`re not using your rod and reel, it`s important to store them properly. First, make sure that they`re dry before storing them away. If they`re wet, they could rust or corrode.

Vaseline can be used as a lube. However, it`s not always a good option for personal lubrication during intercourse. While it may reduce friction during sex, it can also introduce bacteria that can lead to an infection. It`s also difficult to clean and can cause staining.

REEL GREASE

Put a few drops on the worm drive gear on the main shaft. There are a few other gears that go back and around on the winders. Put a few drops on them as well. You only need a little bit of grease.

Can you help? It is an old Ariens mower but still runs good but now I need to bypass the safety switch in order to run it any longer. The local Ariens dealer said I need to go through the internet and get the wire diagram as they cannot give it to me directly. They told me I needed the wire diagram and the part involved in bypassing the safety switch. Hope this is all the information you need to help me.

Thank you. Roger Fielitz

ANSWER : Here is owner manual:http://apache.ariens.com/manuals/030305C.pdfusually the switch is behind the ignition, sometimes at the N position of gearshift, just look for a switch with one wire coming in & one going out (usually the same color); disconnect the two wires & jumper them together to bypass the switch.
