How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

One of the most common reasons for your bike`s refusal to start is a dead battery. When the battery has no charge or power, it cannot power the vehicle and so, it fails to start. At such a time, you need to ensure the battery is charged back up. If you have an EV, you can simply take the battery out and charge it.
A non-cranking condition could be due to a dead battery, blown starter-motor fuse, faulty starter-motor relay, a safety override (like the kickstand being down while the bike is in gear), or perhaps even something as basic as the kill switch being in the off position.
Spark plugs are often the problem if your jet ski engine turns over, but doesn`t start, especially if you have a 2-stroke jet ski. Take the spark plugs out and examine them to see whether they`re wet or dry. If they`re dry and light brown in color, you have the correct fueling.
The pilot jet handles the mixture from idle to 15 to 20 percent throttle. Air comes in through the front of the carburetor drawing fuel up through the pilot with a vacuum that is created as the air flows through the pilot circuit.
Carbon, oil residue and pitting on the spark plug electrodes will cause a weak or inconsistent spark, resulting in poor ignition and poor acceleration. A clogged air filter may not allow a sufficient amount of air into the combustion chamber, making the air/fuel mixture overly rich and causing poor acceleration.
This could be because of certain reasons – Weak / Dead Battery, clogged fuel tank vent, the clutch is not engaging properly, blocking intake or exhaust, loose spark plug wire and engine cutoff switch. Moreover, we`d suggest you get your bike checked at the nearest authorized.
Old spark plugs are another culprit which might make a bike hard to start. If the plug is old and worn the spark will be weaker, making it more difficult to ignite the mixture. Keeping fresh plugs in the engine can greatly improve the bikes starting tendencies.
There could be several reasons why a WaveRunner is not starting. The simplest and most common fault is when the shut-off clip is not properly attached or the tank is empty. Other common reasons could be electrical issues like malfunctions with the battery, spark plugs, fuses, or wires.
Why Are Jet Skis So Unstable? Let`s face it, jet skis are very unstable and easy to capsize due to their design. Since they are built for fun and aggressive riding, they are shorter and narrower than most motorized vessels out there. And the narrower the hull, the less stability it offers!
This method involves looking at the base of the spark plug insulator (white part of the plug) for a slight coloring on the insulator just above where the insulator comes through the steel case. If the mixture is too lean, it will leave no color, while a rich mixture will cause the fuel ring to become more prominent.
If the pilot circuit is rich, the engine will have a rough idle or may not return to idle without “blipping” the throttle. You may also notice a distinct smell of raw fuel and some eye irritation from the exhaust.
A pilot jet that`s too big will have these symptoms:

Be hard to start – harder when the engine is hot. Sputter/hesitate when trying to accelerate at low RPM/throttle opening. Foul spark plugs more easily because it`s running too rich (too much fuel in the mixture)

Over time and many kilometers on the seat, motorcycles can lose power. In order to function properly, an engine requires an ideal mixture of air and fuel, and a strong spark to ignite the mix. If air, fuel, or spark systems are not functioning normally, riders may experience the dreadful feeling of power loss.
You just need to inflate your tyres a little bit more. You can check the recommended pressure on the tyres sidewall, but as a good in-between for maximum rolling speed and good grip we`d recommend 100PSI. If you go out riding, chances are it`ll be into a headwind. In fact, you`ll always cycle into a headwind.
The motorcycle engine often stalls at idle after warm up.

The dreaded stalling issue when the engine is warm is the most common idle problem and it is mostly related to the very lean air/fuel ratio on the modern fuel injected motorcycle engine.

The carburetor is responsible for controlling how much fuel and air are mixed together before it enters the engine. When the carburetor is damaged, this will not only cause your car to jerk when accelerating but will also lead to poor performance in general.
If you hear your car engine stuttering, then the injectors may not be providing an adequate amount of fuel. To fix this, you should clean the injectors on a regular basis. Using a fuel injector cleaning solution might eliminate the issue of the car jerking.
Automatic transmissions that shift hard, jerk or shake during a shift change may mean your transmission fluid needs changed or fluid level is low. In manual transmission vehicles, abnormal gear shifts could indicate damaged gear synchros, worn clutches or other, more severe issues.
Just because your bike won`t start doesn`t mean the battery is flat and trying to jump, bump or push-start the bike can actually damage it and cause you injury. RACQ tech boss and Suzuki Bandit tragic Steve Spalding warns against jumping straight into jump starting your bike.
For most bikes, 2nd gear is the easiest gear for push-starting, though it is usually also possible in 1st gear. Rarely, some bikes will even be easier to start in 1st gear than in second. Usually, if your bike is parked, it`s in neutral – you can tell whether this is the case by pushing it forward.
If you want to push start your motorcycle like a pro, always use 2nd gear or 3rd gear. Do not use 1st gear when push starting your bike, especially if your bike is equipped with a high-compression engine, as the gear ratios are not suited and you run the risk of locking up your rear tires.
No! Never run the motor of your watercraft out of the water.
Jet ski batteries are usually 12 volts, but a fully charged jet ski battery should read above 12.6 volts (12.7-13+ volts). As a rule of thumb, you need at least 12-12.5 volts to start a jet ski, but it always depends on the model and some external factors.
This is because a poorly maintained and serviced engine and other parts wear out much sooner. Every owner`s manual strictly outlines required service intervals. Beyond regular service, jet skis need to be winterized in most cases. Additionally, every owner should carefully check their skis before and after rides!

I have a Kohler Condidant 5 Generator that will run as long as you hold the start button in. It dies when you let off. I have a harness for the remote switch but no switch – It also will start the generator when you cross the red and black wire and run as long as you hold them together. There are 3 wires to the main switch and 5 to the remote switch. Does the starter stay engaged the whole time you hold the start switch or does the computer release the starter once it is running? The Generator is producing electricity because I tested it while holding the start button. Some where is a wire that shold tell it to keep running. I have read online many descriptions of the same problem, most are told the board is bad so they replace it and still have the problem. Have not found a solution. Talked to a marine machanic today and he said he fixed his friends generator doing the same thing by running a bypass wire but he couldnt remember exactly what he did it was a long time ago. Can anyone help me. Thank you
ANSWER : The problem is either the ballast resistor or the starter bypass relay. The bypass relay should be part of the starter solenoid. I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly where the ballast resistor is located. It should be a physically fairly large resistor made of ceramic. It should be retangular roughly 1.5″-3″ long and 3/8″-1/2″ accross with a wire on each end. It could also be a coil of wire mounted on a phenolic board.

I have a 1996 yamaha wave venture 1100….ran greatsat for 2 yrs..started but only ran for spray into carbs….drained fuel started and ran good. Started about month later and would only run as long as primed with starter fluids…checked fuel filter(ok)…fuel flow to fuel pump ok…output of fuel pump appears ok….but engine will only run as long as starter fluid/gas is sprayed into carbs. I don’t think it’s the carbs as it ran great a month ago…now it’s starving for gas flow….so it appears to be a fuel delivery problem…what would be the sequence of tests up to tearing into the carbs? is there a fuel filter inside the carbs? remember it fires off great when primed…until the fuel spray is consumed…

I have a 99 yamaha f100 four stroke outboard. Problem I have is boat will acclereate fine get up on plane and after running for about a mob at wot will decell and only run around 4500 rpm. Then after coming back to idle will have a slight miss then run smooth and repeat every run. Changed the plugs and fuel filters alll oe yamaha has fresh oil timing belt is good any ideas will help or fuel psi spec. I am an ase master automotive tech so I know alot about engs. To me it feels like it’s running out of gas. Like the carb bows are full when I take off but then runs out after running wot. Any info will help

1996 bayou runs for short time ,keeps stalling out
ANSWER : Hello, I would start first, make sure ex pipe is open . Then I would check the pick up coil, ohms should be 390-590 on a 300 KLF. Do this test before u start the bike Then start the bike and when it quits running check the pick up coil ohms. If good move on to the coil, If good then I would say good chance CDI is bad I hope this helps

Motor was running great, but it died slowly and never start again
ANSWER : Check to see if you have a spark -then check if you are still getting fuel-and how old is the fuel-because it is recommended ,an im assuming its a 2 stroke motor,that the fuel should be replace with a fresh 2 stroke mixture every couple of months as the mixture jellyfies and sludges up the carb etc-try those first

I have a 2001 Yamaha XL700Z Waverunner. The compression on both cylinders is about 120, it starts and runs fine – dry. Won’t quite idle, but I can start it and rev it up fine (for a short period, of course). However, as soon as it gets in the water, it will barely run – it will start and sputter and you cannot get it to run more than a few seconds or rev up. Take it back out, let it dry, starts & revs fine. It is not getting any water in the casing that I can tell, its almost as if water is getting something wet through the cooling system that I cannot see?
