1953 – The Penn Peerless No. 9 is introduced for light-tackle and all-around freshwater fishing.

The Serial # system PENN uses now was originated sometime in the early 70`s. Prior to that (late 60`s/early 70`s) they used serial numbers that do not reference the manufacturer date.
Bail. The bail on a spinning reel acts as a gate for the line on the reel spool. When the bail is engaged, fishing line is prevented from unwinding from the spool. When the bail is open, as it would be when casting, it releases line from the spool.

ANSWER : Alright man……i had the same problem. it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, bot it does twist open, it’s just harder than hell to get it to twist off. I took a towel and laid it over the reel, and lightly tapped on it with a hammer to loosen it up a bit.

ANSWER : On the front of the spool there is a device to turn to set the drag. Torn it tighter and tighten it until slightly below the breaking point of your fishing line. It isn’t a critical adjustment, it just keeps your line from breaking while trying to land a fish.

I have the penn Senator 15L and lately the reel when over 200 yards of Line goes out then I start to reel it in the reel starts to Slip and no line can be reeled in? Do you have a solution? Thanks
ANSWER : The weight of that much line is caausing the drag to slip. you need to tighten the drag up some more. hope this helps

ANSWER : Was a great reel until the pin stopped coming out to reel in the line. Most reels have a removable nut to service the pin springs. this reel doesn’t allow access – crazy!

Lifted weights don’t go back down properly – they snag
ANSWER : The leftovers you found go in the pole underneath the first weight (the one on top) so 1 weight is always locked, this weight needs to be attached so the bar returns to it original position.
