Barbell collars are an essential part of weightlifting. A barbell collar is placed on barbells and dumbbells to keep the weight disk from becoming too loose and falling off the bar while in use. The weight disks are placed on the bar, and then these products are attached on the outer side of the disk.
There are many names for the weights used in weightlifting, but plates, discs, and bumpers are the most common. They are round weights that are used at the end of a barbell. These weights come in different sizes, weights and materials. “Bumper” plates are a common weight used in functional training.
Also referred to as barbell clips or clamps, barbell collars are like bookends on a shelf. They act as a lock or stopper to your weight plates when loaded across your typical barbell sleeve.
Lifting Without Collars Can Screw Up Your Lift
Not only are collars essential for safety, they also help secure plates on the barbell so they don`t rattle. Few things are more irritating than doing a heavy set and feeling the plates rattling. The more explosively you perform your reps, the more the plates rattle.
The simple springy metal clips you`ll find at many gyms weigh just about a quarter of a pound, while heftier plastic or thick metal locks (also known as collars), can weigh closer to two pounds, according to Wickham. If you`re using light metal clips, don`t worry about factoring them into your total weight.
One of the first things you learn when starting to work out is to put plates on the barbell with the flat part facing out. A trainer or maybe a more experienced friend explains this unwritten rule, and from that point forward you put the plates on that way.
With your bar on the floor, raise one side up and pull the first weight plate on. Always place the heaviest – and largest – weights onto your barbell first. It`s important that you use bumper plates for any lifts starting from the floor. Then slide the second weight plate onto the other side in the same way.
If the lip of the plate faces in, it`s easier to wrap your fingers around the plate when putting them on and taking them off the bar. Scarpulla`s Take: “If the lip faces outward, you can wrap your thumb around it. It doesn`t matter other than personal preference.
Olympic barbells are 7 feet long and will weigh 45 lbs. Typically the thickness or diameter of the bars can fluctuate depending on the manufacturer or style. The difference in diameter will affect the bar`s maximum weight capabilities.

Yes, it is possible to make use of weight plates with a 2″ opening on 1″ barbell sleeves. The most significant difference in between regular plates and Olympic plates is the center hole size.

I bought a Rio 30′ piece of sink tip T-11 which included 3 loop connectors. At the same time I bought extra loop connectors (4-6 wt). When I opened the sink tip the LCs had a very narrow end which opened into a slightly larger diameter nearer the loop. the ends are frayed.
My question is, do you have any hints as to how to apply the included loop connectors to my sink tip. I had no problem getting ther 4-6 wt LC and BTW, I tied a nail knot over the LC near the end of the sink tip line and super glued the collar place over the end of the LC where the line enters the LC.

Selecttech 1090 Dumbbells: the end caps that adjust the weight are stfrozen, …
ANSWER : Just call Bowflex. If you don’t want to call here’s the solution. There is a reset button on the bottom of the handle. Take the handle out, place on the floor side ways, depress the square button and turn to 5 lbs. Whatever weights that were on handle will fall out. Place the weights back into the holder. Make sure they are positioned correctly then put the handle back. Then test by dialing up different weight settings and lifting the ******** out of the holder. You should be back in business. If that doesn’t work call Bowflex which you should do anyway.
I have a Kohler Condidant 5 Generator that will run as long as you hold the start button in. It dies when you let off. I have a harness for the remote switch but no switch – It also will start the generator when you cross the red and black wire and run as long as you hold them together. There are 3 wires to the main switch and 5 to the remote switch. Does the starter stay engaged the whole time you hold the start switch or does the computer release the starter once it is running? The Generator is producing electricity because I tested it while holding the start button. Some where is a wire that shold tell it to keep running. I have read online many descriptions of the same problem, most are told the board is bad so they replace it and still have the problem. Have not found a solution. Talked to a marine machanic today and he said he fixed his friends generator doing the same thing by running a bypass wire but he couldnt remember exactly what he did it was a long time ago. Can anyone help me. Thank you
ANSWER : The problem is either the ballast resistor or the starter bypass relay. The bypass relay should be part of the starter solenoid. I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly where the ballast resistor is located. It should be a physically fairly large resistor made of ceramic. It should be retangular roughly 1.5″-3″ long and 3/8″-1/2″ accross with a wire on each end. It could also be a coil of wire mounted on a phenolic board.
