Fuel is delivered from all of the discharge ports when the choke is closed, providing a full, rich mixture for starting. A small amount of air is added to the rich mixture through a hole or port in the choke shutter. The throttle shutter is slightly open when the engine is idling.
Three-circuit metering systems bypass the metering blocks by pulling fuel directly out of the fuel bowl and into the venturi. They are easily identified by pullover tubes that protrude into the venturi near the throttle plate. “The third circuit is essentially a pullover system,” Benoit said.

Put the carburetor float and other components in a large container with your Simple Green Pro HD solution, and soak thoroughly. Use a brass brush to scrub all metal components, and a stiff nylon brush to scrub plastic pieces. Make sure the tiny vents get cleaned.
The circuits that comprise a carburetor are broken down into seven categories. They are: float, choke, idle, main metering, power enrichment, accelerator pump, and if applicable, secondary barrels.
The five most basic circuits in the carburetor are the float, idle, main-metering, power-enrichment, and the accelerator-pump circuits.
There are 3 main circuits of a carburetor: idle, midrange and main. Each circuit is responsible for regulating the air fuel ratio for different rider demands. If 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel (stoichiometric) is the idle ratio, these 3 circuits operate to achieve that goal at all times.
If the mixture is too lean, it will leave no color, while a rich mixture will cause the fuel ring to become more prominent. Over-rich mixtures will give the plug a sooty appearance.
Carbureted engines may require as little as 28 kPa (4 PSI), while modern multipoint fuel injected high-performance engines can require as much as 414 kPa (60 PSI). Achieving more horsepower means increasing the amount of air and fuel to the engine.

Rinse all carburetor components in a bucket of clean water, and allow to air dry completely. For small holes and vents, use a can of compressed air to remove any excess moisture. Reassemble and replace.
Boil clean. Soaking is a great way to clean carbs, and a lot of the time this is sped up by boiling them. Many people will simply use vinegar or even lemon water to boil clean their carbs.
To arrive at the most appropriate carburetor choice, there`s a basic formula: engine displacement multiplied by maximum rpm divided by 3,456. For example: a typical 355ci small-block—a 0.030-over rebuild—with a 6,000-rpm max engine speed would work well with a 616-cfm carb ((355 x 6,000) 3,456 = 616.32).

Before you start with your rejetting, it`s helpful to understand the parts in your carburetor and how they control your fuel level.

The carburetor number is typically located on a metal tag attached to the carburetor. On most aftermarket carburetors, this ID is stamped or etched directly onto the carburetor body.
Carburetors are sized by how much air they can flow. This is expressed in cubic feet per minute (cfm). It is important to understand that cfm has nothing to do with fuel. The fuel delivery circuits in the carb can be tuned to meet the engine`s needs.
Carburetors are manufactured in several sizes and configurations. There are two types of carburetors: Fixed venturi – The velocity of the airflow is used to regulate the flow of the fuel. Variable venturi – The flow of raw fuel is controlled mechanically, and airflow is regulated with fuel flow.
Fuel pressure for most vehicles should stay in a 5- to 10-psi range. But, techs should make sure to look at the service information for the specifications. Other data PIDs used to regulate the fuel pump include the engine position sensors.
If the pressure is too high, it can force too much fuel into the engine. That can cause fouled spark plugs, among other issues.
The official serving sizes for a high-carbohydrate food is the amount that includes 15 to 30 grams of carbohydrates. That is equivalent to a slice of bread, a third of a cup of cooked rice, or a half-cup of cooked pasta. If those amounts seem small, it may be because you are used to seeing way bigger portions.
Lean Air/Fuel Mixture

Not only can a rich air/fuel ratio cause a backfire, a mixture that doesn`t have enough gasoline can cause a backfire, too. A “lean” mixture is one that doesn`t have enough fuel, and too much air.

Find the adjustment screws on the front of the carburetor.

There should be two screws on the front of the carburetor, which are used to adjust the air and fuel mixture. These often look like flat-head screws, and you can use a screwdriver to turn them, adjusting the amount of fuel and air mixing in the carb.

Help! Just bought a Remington 30 06 for my grandson that has a Bushnell Sportview U4124 4-12power scope mounted on it. I would like to sight it in at 100 yards using a 180 grain shell but I don’t have the owners manual and I don’t understand an on line explanation that I found. This is the on line message: “You’ll see two horizontal crosshairs, put the top one on the animals back then zoom in until the bottom one is on his stomach. Look at the numbers on the zoom dial there should be three lines they are D – deer, E – elk and A – antelope. The numbers are the distance to the game, you then turn the external elevation knob or turret to the matching distance and shoot dead on. No need to hold over for bullet drop. The sad part will be if you didn’t get the other turrets that would have come with it as they are calibrated to different calibers and bullet weights”
I don’t understand how to set the elevation knob to 100yards when its lowest shown number is 150. If I need other turrets how or where can I get them? Thanks, a frustrated grandfather.

I own an 1992 Yamaha Phazer II PZ 480. I have done a bunch of work trying to get this hunk o stuff going. I have good spark and compression from the motor. I rebuilt both carbs and both clutches it starts and runs fine but when I try to move it just boggs down- no power? Where should l look next to get this thing moving again? I work at a Marina that used to service sno-mobiles so I have the tools to get it done. Could you maybe send me an assembly diagram of where to look and what to do next? Thanks

Need to know how to set up carb on 1985 johnson outboard. front adj on the carb got moved looking for starting point to get me close to running.
ANSWER : Try disconnecting the throttle cable, loosen carb linkages, assure that both carbs are FULL closed….tighten linkage – and cable …check for FULL open and close with the throttle….this will be your starting point, advise to get a service manual for your outboard model to correctly adjust the carbs for max performance….GL hope this helps..

What if the puck lands mostly in a higher numbered column but slightly on the line of the lower number before it? Can I score it as a higher value since it is mostly in that number zone?
