Stud Detection Adjustment
Adjust the trimmer for STUD DETECTOR. If the green light is on, slowly turn the trimmer ANTI-CLOCKWISE until the Red light and Buzzer just come on. Slowly turn back the trimmer until the Red LED and Buzzer just turn off and the Green LED just turns on. Now the unit is correctly adjusted.
Magnetic stud detectors use magnets to locate metal in the walling material because the magnet is attracted to the metal. The attraction grows stronger as the magnet gets closer to the metal in the walling. The strongest attraction point, if due to a metal fastener in the wall, should indicate the location of a stud.
Place the stud finder flat against the wall, press and hold the power button, and wait for 1-2 seconds. The tool automatically calibrates to the wall`s surface. If there is a calibration error, or if you have started over a stud, the tool will intermittently beep and the lights may flash.
1) Check Your Battery. If your stud finder worked previously, but no longer seems to work, about 9 times out of 10, the problem is a weak battery. You may swear that the battery is still good, but it`s not. Is the battery new from the store or new from the drawer?
Metal detectors work by transmitting an electromagnetic field from the search coil into the ground. Any metal objects (targets) within the electromagnetic field will become energised and retransmit an electromagnetic field of their own.
Cable detectors are made up of two parts; the transmitter and receiver. An electric signal is transferred through a cable pipe by the transmitter and the receiver picks up the signal. This allows the operator to trace the signals path and detect the cable or pipe.
What Is a Stud and a Stud Finder? A wall stud is a vertical two-by-four located behind interior drywall or plaster. A stud is positioned on edge so that its room-facing width is 1 1/2 inches. A stud finder is a device that locates the stud`s position without penetrating the wall.
To verify whether or not you`ve found a stud without doing any damage to your wall, knock or tap the area gently with your hammer, says Rothman. If you hear a hollow or empty sound, tap a little to the left or to the right. When the sound is muffled, you`ll know you`ve hit a stud.
Stud Finders
Wires often run along studs, or wooden or metal beams that are part of the wall frame. A magnetic stud finder detects metal nails in the studs, which wires often rest on, while an electronic stud finder produces an electrical field that lets it identify denser regions (some can detect electrical currents).
To use the high voltage detector, you simply place the carbide tip on the object in question, press the magnetic trigger, and observe the LEDs. If the green LED illuminates, the surface being touched is free from electrical hazards. If the red LED flashes, dangerous voltage is present.
Bought a famous trails metal detector and when installing batteries and turning it on the needle shoots all the way to the left.Nothing will move it nor will it detect anything.the manual says something about resetting it but doesn’t say how.Does anyone know what the problem could be??/Thank you
ANSWER : I have a metal detector similar to a Famous Trails.
This would indicate that your sensitivity switch is set to full high. Try rotating the sensitivity switch to the center. There should be a button just below the meter which, when pressed, causes the needle to center.
With sensitivity set to mid range and the needle centered, the buzzer should not be sounding unless the coil is near some sort of metal.
Make sure all of the other knobs, if any, are also centered.
