Since the working voltage of Humminbird sounders is between 10V and 20V, a Humminbird can be used with either a battery from the Angling line or the AV line. With the AV line, you can optionally select the DC stabilizer for longer runtime.
Humminbird Down Imaging uses a razor-thin, high-frequency beam to create picture-like images of structure, vegetation and fish. Down Imaging returns are oriented identically to traditional, down-looking sonar returns—with the most-recent information appearing on the right side of the screen.
Excluding special super compact fish finders, most fish finders use DC 12-24 volt power supply. As long as the voltage is between 12 and 24 volt, the fish finder unit will function properly.
Wire the fish finder direct to the battery (either the cranking battery or an auxiliary battery). Don`t take shortcuts and run the fish finder power wire into a block or switch panel. Wire your fish finder the right way and extend the Humminbird power wire directly to the battery using the correct type and gauge wire.
A typical fish finder battery may be 12V 10Ah. This means that the battery has 12 volts. You can expect it to last for about 10 hours at that voltage.
In general, you should be able to get years of life from your new fish finder battery. However, all batteries have a lifespan. We expect our ELB lithium ion battery to last approximately 2000-7000 cycles until they should be replaced.
The general rule of thumb is to mount the transducer to the starboard side, which is the down stroke of most single outboard boat propellers (right hand lower unit). This side produces the least amount of turbulence and is most efficient in delivering the best performance.
A great down-imaging fish finder will also offer you clearer images of fish than traditional 2D sonar. Your traditional sonar chart might show one or two fish—but if you look at your down imaging screen, it might reveal that there are actually quite a few fish that the traditional chart didn`t pick up.
Sensitivity and contrast go hand in hand. Humminbird fish finders, for example, come pre-configured at “10 and 10,” which simply meads a level 10 setting on a range of 0-20. The 10 halfway setting is optimal in most situations.
To determine what gauge wire you need, consider the carrying capacity and the amount of current the wire needs to conduct (measured in amperage or amps). Wire gauge is directly related to how many amps you need to run through it. The distance you need the wire to go can also impact the gauge of wire you need.
What gauge is used for automotive battery cable? The typical automotive battery cable is a 6-gauge cable. Most vehicles rely on a 12-volt power supply, making a 6-gauge battery cable the appropriate choice. An automotive battery cable can withstand 60-volts, but it is best for 12-volt systems.
The fish finder battery time is dependent on the size of the battery you`re using. But, generally, a normal-sized lithium-ion 12 Ah battery can run a fish finder for up to 20-24 hours.

There are two cables—a positive and a negative—attached to the battery. The positive cable connects the battery to the starter motor and the car`s electrical system, while the negative cable connects the battery to a grounding point. Each cable attaches to the battery with a terminal end.

Fishfinders and depth meters usually work on 12V and should therefore always be used with a 12V battery, so a blue Rebelcell AV lithium battery. Depending on the brand and type of fishfinder, the use of a 12V DC stabilizer can extend the operating time enormously.
Others say fish can`t hear a transducer`s click because it is a much higher frequency than a fish is capable of hearing. According to fishfindersource.com, the idea that fish can hear your transducer is a myth that needs debunking.
Because the transducer can only ping in water so you do want it submerged. If it`s too deep sometimes the front face of it will create turbulence and bubbles = bad. Plus it can throw water up over your motor and inside your cowling resulting in saltwater intrusion.
Mount a transducer too low and it will have too much drag in the water causing disturbance resulting in a poor picture, or even the transducer being ripped off the boat. Mount it too high and it will be out of the water or shooting through air bubbles for a poor to nonexistent picture.

Ethernet networking refers to the ability of an Ethernet-compatible Humminbird fish finder, such as HELIX G4N, SOLIX, or APEX model, to connect and share information like waypoints, tracks, and transducer information with other compatible Humminbird fish finders.
The transducer should be mounted nose-up about three degrees in relation to the plane of the hull bottom. Sometimes a transducer mounted parallel with the hull bottom also works fine, but even the slightest nose-down angle can cause turbulence or cavitation that kills performance.

Trying to install a new fluro light, pull out old light to find 3 reds and 3 blacks 1 copper earth. What do I do to connect it up the right way??? When I pulled the old Fluro light out the 3 Reds were joined together with a connector ,two blacks were joined to one end of light wire, the other to the other end of the light wire,earth wire to the light case,the third black wire was connected to the wire from the ballast? Does this all make sense
ANSWER : No, this does not make sense but I have seen strange wiring before. There is power going from the light someplace else. Just connect it back up exactly as the old light was connected. It worked before so it will work again. If it works it is wired correctly. Without being there to check which wire was the hot wire and which was neutral it is impossible for me to say what is what. Make sure you connect the ground wire to the light chassis.

Spark plug wire boot grounding out on coil, 96 outback 2.5 automatic, just put new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, and new coil on. ran great for two weeks, now spark is jumping out of boot at coil on one wire, put old coil back on and still does it in the same spot. replaced wires again, and still does it in the same spot. seems to do it only under a load. Is my new spark plug on that cylinder bad? Does the coil need some insulation under it? It is the coil that sits right on top of the motor. Any ideas? thanks.
ANSWER : Sparks are high voltage, and will always follow the path of least resistance. If you can visibly see a spark (whether in a lighted area, or in the dark), that means either that a plug wire (or coil wire) is open (non conductive), or your have a carbon track on the surface where the spark can be seen, but most likely you have BOTH problems!
If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance of each wire involved, particularly spark plug wires … which means you must be able to connect to both ends of each wire at the same, and hopefully, FLEX those wires, to be sure they don’t have a break inside that is intermittent (comes and goes)!
