The gap on the spark plug should be . 015”.

The spark plug gap influences the heat range of the spark produced to ignite the air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. This makes it critical to engine performance. How so? A smaller gap ensures the spark plug fires on each cycle.
Product Details. Go light, go quick, and punch all the holes you`ll need with the easy-to-handle Jiffy® Model 30 XT™ 2-Cycle Gas Ice Auger. Weighing only about 30 lbs., this conventional ice drill generates exceptional hole-cutting power, yet is easy to transport around the ice.
o29 – 31 pounds depending on drill size.
Premium fuel will ensure peak performance for your auger. Don`t run old gas. Your engine will start and run better on fresh, premium, winter-grade fuel, which is usually available most places Nov. 1 through April 1.
If your manufacturer recommends a 50:1 fuel/oil mix, it means you need 50 parts of gas to one part two-stroke oil. To mix one gallon of fuel at 50:1, add 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil to one gallon of gas, as shown in the chart below.
Re: Fuel mix for jiffy model 30 ice augers? 10.5 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of fuel. Use non ethanol gas of you can.
However, if the spark plug gap is too large, the spark is unlikely to consistently “jump” across the long distance between electrodes, thus leading to a rough-running engine or one that doesn`t run at all.
The larger the gap, the more voltage is needed to jump the gap. Most experienced tuners know that increasing the gap size increases the spark area exposed to the air-fuel mixture, which maximizes burn efficiency.
If the spark plug gap is incorrectly set, it can lead to engine issues. The customer may experience loss of power, misfires, spark plug fouling, increased plug wear, or poor gas mileage.
At the top of the list, we have the NGK Spark Plugs. With iridium as its core material, this spark plug pack can operate at a much wider heat range as compared to ordinary spark plugs made out of platinum or copper.
For most racing applications, you usually want the plug gap to be between 0.020 and 0.040 of an inch. Most engine builders seem to settle around 0.035 of an inch.
The Eskimo has two blades that dull quickly; whereas the Jiffy has one blade that is serrated and only needs to be sharpened every two years or so. The Eskimo does cut a little faster as long as the blades are sharp, but the jiffy can cut ten times the holes before it needs sharpening.
For gas and electric augers, the best overall size is the 8-inch auger. It`s a large enough hole for most fish, and you can drill overlapping holes for a larger hole. For hand augers, a 6-inch auger would be the best overall size for cutting through the ice if you`re drilling numerous holes.
How Deep Can You Drill with an Auger? An auger can drill holes as deep as 95 feet and as shallow as 3 feet. However, once the depth goes beyond 95 feet, you can add an extension rod to the auger.
Re: Hand Drill Auger Ice Torque Requirement

The general recommendation is 700 in/lbs or better brushless drill…

For an ice auger that will have you fishing up to 25% faster, consider the Jiffy 46 X-Treme Propane Ice Auger. The serrated blades not only cut quicker, but they last at least twice as long as standard blades. This propane auger is quick to start, and the handles offer a wide stance for a more comfortable grip.

Use good quality oil and we recommend using an oil ratio of 40:1 (3.2 oz / 1 gallon of gas).
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of high-octane gas and 0.10 litres (100 ml) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
1:25 = 1 part oil + 25 parts petrol, or 40 ml oil per litre of petrol when using other brands of oil. Any two-stroke engine oil you use in your petrol gardening tool must have the TC classification.

ANSWER : If you just need the cord — most hardware stores do carry replacement cord ( sold by the foot ),, if you look in the chainsaw department you should be able to find the size that you need. as soon as you have the cord you can re spool the winding unit and this will restore the pull start function.
you can also buy the cord at your local lawn and garden shops, snowmobile shops or chainsaw shops.

I have heard stories from other fishermen that they are running ‘ Amsoil* ‘ in there Jiffy augers at a mix ratio of 80:1 and they say that it cut down on the smoking of motor.

I have a new jiffy legend xt and the pullcord does not recoil, right out of the box,is there a solution i can do for a quick fix or do i send it back seeing how ice fishing is here and i cant wait that long
ANSWER : Hello. Shame on Tecumseh for sending you a less than perfect jiffy ice drill. I can walk you through a quick fix, and permanent fix too, so that you won’t have to go without your ice drill for even an hour. I am giving you the link to the Tecumseh service manual

Down load it and turn to page 35. There you can disassemble your starter, check all of the components and then reassemble so that your ice drill will truthfully be better than new! I suspect that the only problem was that the knot in the rope was not properly tied.

That said, good luck. If I was closer I would love to go fishing with you! Regards, Joe

PS please rate my answer. Thank you and happy new year!

TC5000 and after extended use I smell burning and upon removing the belt cover and drive belt I felt of the motor on the motor side of the drive pulley and it was ”red-hot”, obviously the source of the smell of the burning. The motor spins freely without any rubbing noise. The drive pulley (motor side) and the tread pulley appear to be alligned. One curious thing is that the threaded motor output shaft is recessed about 3/8” from the outside edge of the pulley. Could it be the bearing on the pulley side of the motor? I am dumbfounded as to what the solution might be. Note that I could not enter the exact product as my model seemed to be invalid. My model is the TC5000. Thanks [email protected]
ANSWER : Just because it spins freely doesnt mean it cant have a shorted winding. Id send it back where it came from or at least replace the motor.
