Tennis scores were shown in the middle ages on two clock faces which went from 0 to 60. On each score the pointer moved round a quarter from 0 to 15, 30, 45 and a win on 60. Somehow the forty five got truncated to forty when the clock faces dropped out of use.
Such as in the example above being shown as 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-5. The number in parenthesis indicates the points accumulated by the player that lost the tiebreaker – which also allows you to know the other player won by either getting 7 points or by getting 2 more than the number shown in parenthesis.
In WTT the scoring is no-ad. This means a game is won by the first team to win four points (1,2,3, game). When the game score is deuce (3-3) (game point), the receiving team chooses which side is to receive the serve. In the mixed doubles set the serve must be gender to gender at game point.
The origins of `love` as a score lie in the figure zero`s resemblance to an egg. In sport, it`s common to refer to a nil or nought score as a duck or goose egg, and the French word for egg is l`oeuf – the pronunciation of which isn`t too far removed from the English `love`.
It is believed that tennis scores in the very early days were shown on two clock faces. As each person scored, the clock face was moved around 25% or 15 minutes, from 15 to 30, then 45, and finally the win on 60.
UNIVERSAL 9 AND 10: Upper level female collegiate player

These players are among the best players in an area. Junior players at these levels are highly likely to play U.S. Collegiate Division 1 NCAA tennis. Junior girls will be among the top players nationally.

A person with a 5.0 tennis rating has learned good shot anticipation and can consistently hit different strokes with depth and control. At this level the person can also hit winners and force errors by the opponent.
A tennis match consists of sets, games, and points.

To win a set, you must win 6 games – and to win a game, you must win 4 points – all with a margin of at least 2 over your opponent.

Love – A term used in tennis instead of the word `nil` or `zero`. It is used to describe a lack of score in either points, games or sets.
A tennis tie-breaker is played when the game score in a set is 6-6. At this point, players will engage in a 7-point tie-break to decide the set. This means the first player to reach 7 points wins the tie-breaker. If the score in the tie-breaker reaches 6-6, then a player must win by 2 points to capture the tie-break.
In tennis, love is a word that represents a score of zero, and has been used as such since the late 1800s. It`s not perfectly clear how this usage of love came to be, but the most accepted theory is that those with zero points were still playing for the “love of the game” despite their losing score.
40 = three points. Deuce = tied at 3 points (40-40) Ad in = server wins point at deuce.
However, in order to ensure that the game could not be won by a one-point difference in players` scores, the idea of “deuce” was introduced. To make the score stay within the “60” ticks on the clock face, the 45 was changed to 40.
Many factors contribute to the deteriorating state of tennis in America. They include the dearth of Americans playing college tennis, the decline in American-based tennis tournaments and the absence of an American male superstar. There was once a time when crops of fresh tennis talent came from the ranks of the NCAA.
The other now scores, and they`re tied at “15-all.” The next point is 30, then 40, and the following point wins that game. If they tie at 40 it`s called a deuce. From that tie the next person to get a point has the advantage, but generally has to win by two points — that is, to score twice in a row — to win the game.
Thirty30 (T30) tennis is the shortened format of tennis where every point really counts and can be described as the tennis equivalent of cricket`s Twenty20 (T20). Thirty30 tennis provides an alternative to existing shortened scoring methods, i.e. Fast4 and the Match Tie-Break to 10 points.
40-40 is usually called deuce in tennis language. The player that wins a point at 40-40, or deuce, gets advantage. You can now only win the game if you have advantage and win another point.
2.5: Player is ready to play league matches and low-level tournaments. 3.0: The player is fairly consistent, hitting medium-paced shots, but struggles in other situations. 3.5: Player has dependable strokes but lacks variety. 4.0: Similar to 3.5, but more variety.
3.5. Intermediate Player: Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play and has improved court coverage.
