The Tactical Crank Cocking Device installs seamlessly into any Barnett Tactical Series crossbow to reduce cocking resistance by as much as 93 percent. Both from a strength and operational standpoint, the crank handle is easier and less intimidating for many crossbow shooters to use than a rope cocking device.
A rope cocking device consists of a length of rope with 2 handles on the ends and two small hooks with rollers for drawing the string. If you shoot a crossbow often, a rope cocker is certainly a must have.
Although it is possible to cock the crossbow manually, using a cocking device to cock a crossbow is recommended for safety. Cocking devices also help keep the string centered and protect fingers from getting pinched. Most modern crossbow manufacturers offer a device to assist in cocking.
This crank helps you handle a heavier draw weight by easing the force required to fully cock your crossbow.
While using heavier ones can be fine, using lighter ones can mean pretty much the same as dry-firing your crossbow, which will void your warranty, lead to crossbow malfunction, and could even be hazardous to your health. Most crossbow packages you buy will include bolts with target practice field points.
Crossbows work on essentially the same principle as a bow – energy stored in the limbs of the crossbow is transferred to the arrow upon release of its string. Crossbows have a limited range, similar to that of a bow, and require careful estimation of the distance to the target to ensure a precise shot.
Today, crossbows are used for target shooting and for hunting. Scientists used them to collect skin and blubber samples from live whales. Crossbow also has military use in some places. It is used by some militaries, tribal forces, and in China even by the police forces.
While those regulations vary considerably from state to state, the overall range runs from 75 to 125 pounds of draw weight. With little exception, any crossbow in that range should be adequate to kill a whitetail deer at moderate ranges.
In 1139, a Church council declared crossbows unfit for Christian use — except against Infidels. In the next decades other councils repeated the ban.
The simple answer is that crossbows are easy for anyone to pick up and use, and they`re more powerful. While recurve and compound bows take time to learn, but are more accurate when mastered.
Crossbows have a safety feature: Most crossbows are on safe at the end of the cocking process. Immediately after cocking, always check to make sure that your bow is on safe before doing anything else.
Do not leave your crossbow cocked for longer than a 24-hour period, as premature stretching of the string and cables may occur, leading to a loss in crossbow performance.
If you don`t care about hitting a target, a powerful modern crossbow can shoot as far as 500 yards. If you want to hunt, up to 80 yards is possible for a very skilled shooter, however you should stick to a maximum of 60 yards, and preferably much less than that (30-35) if you are a beginner.
As you might expect, lighter crossbow arrows will shoot faster than heavier crossbow arrows. However, with more weight, the heavier crossbow arrows will produce more kinetic energy at impact. For you to decide which weight is best for you to shoot, you must consider the scenario in which you are shooting.
Leaving your bow cocked for extended periods of time may weaken the limbs and reduce speed. Barnett does not recommend cocking your bow for more than four hours at a time. Store in a safe, dry place.
David Barnett and his business partner proudly repurchased Barnett to make it a private family-owned business once again. Unfortunately, we no longer have parts / components to be able to work on various older crossbow models.
As with most vertical bow hunters, effective range for a crossbow is about 40 yards. At this distance most hunters are able to fire a crossbow accurately enough to be lethal. Just like vertical bows, kinetic energy is the name of the game.
Never “dry fire” (i.e., release a cocked crossbow string without a recommended arrow properly loaded into the receiver) your crossbow. Dry firing a Barnett crossbow will immediately void your warranty and result in catastrophic damage to the crossbow.

I have had 2 Predator’s with the new trigger (metal ) come back to my store stuck in safe mode…I think both customers cocked it while bow was on safe mode..My problem is now the safety will not move at all….Can I reset the the trigger?
ANSWER : I came across this on aimblogs.net:

My Barnett Crossbow is stuck?
I have a Barnett crossbow and I pulled the string back till it was locked but I left the safety on and it’s stuck. The safety won’t budge and neither will the string.. I can’t find anyway of releasing the string
My recomendation would be….take the arrow off of the barrel, and case it up. Take it to your local boyer or archery shop. I’m guessing it will need to be put in a bow vice to get the pressure off of the trigger. Good luck.
