Though many campers will orient a tent with the smaller side facing the wind for reduced resistance, it`s more important to place the side that has the strongest pole structure facing the wind. If you`re camping in a hot climate, orient a door toward the wind for cooling.

Connecting two tents is possible using tarps to create a walkway or hallway of varying sizes between the two. Sturdy cords and durable stakes are the accessories needed when creating hallways. Rainflies are also usable to prevent rain from dripping inside the tent.

Camping is an unpredictable and spontaneous adventure so being prepared with a tent that is properly waterproofed is essential. Brand new tents don`t typically need to be waterproofed unless they are made from canvas or polycotton. In this case, they will need weathering to tighten the seams.
Try high: No straps on the bottom of your pack? No problem, you can also attach the tent to the top of your pack. If your pack has a “lid” or a compression strap across the top, secure the rolled tent under it. This works best for lighter tents; heavy ones can impact your balance and make you feel top-heavy.
A tent system uses hinged connections to secure the structure. Hinged connections create a looser frame that is weaker, rattles in the wind, and is prone to leaking. Curved vs. Straight Legs – A TFS uses legs which add additional strength to the design and eliminates the horizontal eave present in straight leg tents.

Square tent with 2 types gazebo poles, varenda, 2 side windows
ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.
