No matter what kind of bike you have, there`s almost certainly a way to attach a bike trailer to it! For the most part, bicycle trailer brands and models can be attached to bikes in a similar way. It`s usually a simple and quick process.
YES! Great news: a bike trailer is a perfect fit for a road bike. As a matter of fact, road bikes are even better suited than other bikes to pulling a bike trailer due to their lightweight frame and aerodynamic riding position.
Child passenger (as rider): Trailer bikes, or pedal trailers, are one-wheeled trailers (tandem trailers) with integrated seat, handle bars, and drive train, that normally attaches to the bike via the seat post (and operate very much like a tandem).
The good news is that bike trailers are generally very safe. They are designed to be towed behind a bike and can even be folded up when not in use. Most bike trailers have safety features like reflectors and brake lights, which make them visible to other drivers on the road.
Green is for the right turn signal. Yellow is for left turn signal. White is ground, and brown is for the trailer`s taillights. These four types of wires together constitute what is known as “four-way wiring.” Four-way wiring is quite common and is suitable for most light-duty trailers and boat trailers.
Hitch definition: A trailer hitch is the primary connector between a tow vehicle and trailer. It is the structural component that bolts onto the vehicle and provides a coupling point to hook up a trailer.
Bike Compatibility

Compared to a bike seat, trailers are generally pretty compatible with bikes. I`ve used a trailer with all kinds of bikes over the years: my mountain bike, my road bike, my commuter bike, and even my fat bike. The one thing to be aware of, however, is that most trailers attach to your rear axle.

Children must wear a bike helmet that fits them correctly when riding in a bike trailer or carrier. Always follow the instruction that came with your bike trailer or carrier. Do not leave your child unattended while in a bike trailer or carrier.
Your child should be at least 12 months old to ride in a bike trailer. We`ll cover the reasons for this below, along with a few tips to stay safe while biking with your baby in a child bike trailer!
If you want an extra comfortable child bike trailer, you might want to consider a suspension system. A bike trailer`s suspension enables a smoother ride over roots and large stones.
When pulling a bicycle trailer, never ride faster than its maximum allowable speed of 25 km/h (15 mph). You should always reduce your speed to a walking pace when turning.
You can lock your bike trailer with a chain or cable lock in the same way as a U-lock. Just remove the trailer from your bike and secure it to a stationary, unmovable object like a bike rack. The locking mechanism should be raised off the ground so thieves can`t smash them with a hammer.
An adult tricycle is safe, but you should always ride with a helmet. So much can happen while on the road that is out of the riders` control, so it is important never to leave home without a helmet. Never take chances, especially with your brain and skull.
The three most common hitch ball sizes are 1-7/8″, 2″, and 2-5/16″ in diameter. In rare cases, you`ll find a 3″ size. Hitch balls also have variations in size for shank diameter and shank length. The different sizes factor into the weight capacity of a towing system.
Trailer Plugs and Sockets

The yellow wire gives power to the left-hand brake light and the left-hand turn signal. There`s a green wire that controls the right-hand brake and light and the right-hand turn signal. The last wire of a standard four-wire system is white — it`s used as the ground wire.

The 7-pin connector uses on newer trailers all 7 pins according to the ISO standard. On older trailers there`s sometimes a 5-wire setup using a 7-pin connector. In these cases exclude connection for right tail light (58R) and rear fog light (54G) and connect the tail lights only to pin for left tail light (58L).
Any vehicle towing a trailer requires a trailer wiring harness to safely connect the taillights, turn signals, brake lights and other necessary electrical systems.
A trailer hitch coupling is a device that attaches the coupler of your trailer to the hitch. They come in many sizes and types, but the most important thing is that they match the tongue of your particular trailer.
A trailer coupler is the connection point mounted on the trailer which connects and secures the trailer to the vehicle.
P-Clamps aka cushioned metal loop straps, might be the solution you are looking for and can be a alternative to mounting a rear rack to a bike that has no eyelets. Cheap and simple to use, you can find them in most hardware stores.
Use a D-lock through the seat tube and rear wheel and then attach to an immovable object, utilising a cable to wrap through both wheels and then link it back to the central D-lock. Remove the quick release front wheel, place it next to the rear wheel and D-lock through both to an immovable object.
Always lock your trailer to your bicycle.

Thread the lock through the frame of the trailer and bicycle, then around an immovable object (e.g. a bike rack or lamp post). For this purpose, be sure to use a lock that is as long as possible, e.g. a cable lock.

A trailer hitch (also called a tow hitch) is a sturdy metal device mounted to the frame of your vehicle.

I bought the Instep Pronto bike trailer last month, loved it! Unfortunately my bike was stolen but they left the trailer. My question is where care i but another part that hitches to the bike????
ANSWER : On Ebay. Part SA047 for Instep bicycle trailer.

I just bought an InStep® Joyrider Bicycle Trailer and the photo’s are not very good. When attached is the bike trailer hitch supposed to attach perpedicular to the bike and the spring bends to 90 deg. when pulled. It seems odd to me, almost like there should be another part.
ANSWER : The hitch part that fastens to your bike rear axle has 3 pieces, a dimpled washer which goes on first then the hitch plate and a pin that holds the trailer to the hitch. Take off the axle nut (15 mm wrench) install the dimpled washer it goes on with the 90 deg tang facing the bike wheel and in the channel so it can’t rotate. Then put the hitch plate on, mine faced down for the correct height, line up the dimpled washer with the bumps on the hitch plate to locate it properly. reinstall the wheel nut and be sure to align the wheel so it runs straight and true (I oopsed on this the first time) then attach the trailer, it is a 90 deg hook-up then you simply put the the pin in and you are good to go. The unique hook-up makes it so smooth and dampened that you don’t even know it’s behind you. We really love ours!
